I remember reading that it was the same one but it just looked terrible.. I dunno if it was decay or bad lighting but it was one of the few instances where the CGI really brought it back up.

I really don't think they're the same puppet. TPM Yoda is supposed to look younger.

In anticipation of TFA I've been rewatching all of the movies (started with prequels) with my girlfriend who is seeing them all for the very first time. It's been interesting getting her take on them.

Basically:

-She enjoyed "Quinn Jinn" (seriously what she called him), but pretty much disliked everything else about Phantom Menace, though agreed Darth Maul was cool.
-Despite some goofy parts, she liked Attack of the Clones more than Phantom Menace and watching them again, I'm almost inclined to agree.
-Revenge of the Sith was once again better than the last so was getting more into the story. Was shocked at Anakin slicing up the kiddies.Literally spit out her water and began laughing at Padme "losing the will to live"
-Obi Wan was "by far" her favourite prequel character
-While watching a New Hope, she started ranting about how it looked much better due to the practical effects. She became enraged every time I commented on a change Lucas made. She now hates George with a passion.
-She loved the Hoth battle in Empire and prefers wacky puppet Yoda over CG ninja Yoda
-She doesn't understand the appeal of Boba Fett. At all.
-Is very much enjoying the romance between Han and Leia

We're watching Jedi tomorrow, but I know she's excited for ewoks.

My girlfriend had seen them before, but we've been rewatching them and these are almost exactly her reactions. Empire is her favorite, like mine, but mainly because she thinks OT Yoda is the cutest thing in the world. All throughout the prequels she was saying: "Who is this? This isn't my baby." Everytime CGI Yoda came out with a lightsaber, haha.

We both think AOTC is much worse than TPM though. She kept calling Anakin a rapist. Every comment he makes to, or about, Padme in the first half of that movie is skeevy as fuck. Never noticed that as a kid.

Schmoes have teased their reactions:

"Turns out I was wrong about some things but was right about A LOT" @KristianHarloff

"Tuesday morning and I still feel The Force flowing through me. Hope it doesn't stain my tux. (Yes I'm still wearing it)" @5150ellis

My gf, who's not a fan (but not a not-fan) made a neat observation the other day, she said it was neat that a whole new generation of fans were going to be created by this trilogy, and this trilogy will be their favorite, and "it's going to be like Doctor Who" in that it's becoming this multi-generational property, everyone having their favorite era but everyone also having it in common.

My boyfriend loveeees The Phantom Menace. He always gets crushed when I tell him how many people hate it. I showed him those tweets for The Force Awakens that were like "Star Wars is back for the first time since 1983," and he's like "but there was a new Star Wars in 1999." It's so interesting the things people think that are fresh to the series. I like Phantom Menace though, it's Clones I can't stand and at least he agreed with me there.

I've been following this thread since its inception and avoiding the spoiler one like the plague with great success. I just clicked what I thought was this thread and spent a couple minutes reading, the more I read, the more worried I got until I finally scrolled up and realized my error. I didn't ruin anything for myself, but the laughed my ass off. I couldn't mash back fast enough. Hahaha.

Jake Lloyd doesn't ruin.. everything for you? The "aw, look how cute, kids say the darndest things" casting just makes my skin crawl..

The Tatooine segment is the worst, I agree, I'd much rather watch the scenes in the senate where Palpatine pulls the strings behind Padmé's back and makes her dance. Or the legendary duel at the end. And, well, it's the first movie I've ever seen in theaters and my cousins and I watched it religiously. It'll always have a soft spot in my heart.

Yeah, for sure, it's got some cool stuff in it and there is SW heart tucked away somewhere within. The ending fight LOOKS cool, I just wish it would have had real significance to the story and we cared about what both sides could potentially lose/gain. Maul is a disposable puppet and should have been a more central portion of the Episode 1 arc. I do love Palp pulling strings and do think that's one of the best parts of the PT story, though. He's a great actor and character within the SW universe.

This movie won't be out on home video for months and I'm already getting angry thinking about "Everything Wrong with The Force Awakens"

Meh.. every movie in history has been criticized. I've seen 30% movies on RT and liked them, and 95-98 movies and hated them. Even if TFA reinvented the SW wheel, people would hate it because it's too much like the PT or OT, or not enough like either and/or. People just love to be critics and feel smart/important in their own thought processes.

Won't stop me from loving it (assuming it's as good as I think it is).

I watched The Phantom Menace when I was just a kid, and I remember really enjoying myself with it at the time, so I don't hate it.

Jake Lloyd was a child actor, if that was the best he can do, then it wasn't terrible. His manner of speaking and dialogue seem to be the most casual, while everyone else was very formal. I kind of liked it.

I say this as someone who also says Hayden Christensen wasn't bad either.

I remember walking out with my brother; I was 11, he was 13 at the time. We both slowly started realizing how bad it was, especially after the hype died down. I remember asking him.. "that was good.. right?" when we walked out of the theater.

Whether or not he gave his best is absolutely irrelevant. The worst actor can give his/her best performance, doesn't make it look any less shitty on screen.

His "casual" speech sounded like he was reading off of cue cards, to me anyway.

I was five when I saw TPM so LOL. I even fell asleep during the pod racing segment. Still loved it. Actually, I watched that before I'd ever seen the other movies, and when my parents realized this they bought the VHS set and that's when I really fell in love. Broke my Empire Strikes Back tape from rewinding it so many times.

Eek! Forbes' SW box office prediction

According to Walt Disney DIS +3.08%, the film will be opening in (deep breath) 4,100+ theaters, 3,300+ 3D locations, a record 392 IMAX screens (13 of which are glorious 70mm), 451 “premium large format” screens and 146 D-Box options (if it’s anything like Star Tours, those theaters will be filled with “second hand” popcorn, soda and snacks on the floors). That does mean the news about 3,900 theaters that I wrote about on Friday was a low-ball count, but 4,100 theaters is still nowhere near a record theater count (4,468 for Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn) and around the fifth or sixth biggest release for 2015 depending on what the final screen count ends up being. That means scoring the opening weekend record (Jurassic World earning $208.8 million in 4,274 theaters) is still somewhat of an uphill battle.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens would have to earn $50,591 per-theater, which would be a record for a wide release, in order to make $208.9 million and take the record. It’s doable, but it’s not going to be a cake walk.

I predict massive meltdowns and possibly rioting in the street if Star Wars doesn't beat that piece of trash Jurassic World at the box office
