[SPOILERS] Star Wars: The Force Awakens - It's True. All of it.

Well as it stands, both segments (Maz's Castle and Starkiller) feels too truncated. It's underwhelming. They've already made the decision to rip that part off from ANH, might as well go in all the way and make it feel meaningful.

The first was a skirmish that decided to focus on the characters. I don't equate the battles with whether or not Poe was useless. He did blow the fuck out of Starkiller at the end.

This was honestly my biggest problem with the movie.
He's trained by LUKE for God's sake. He's well trained enough to be trusted by Snoke to be leading this expedition and the Knights of Ren.

I'm all for Rey surprising the shit out of Kylo with how strong with the force she is, maybe even surprising him with her combat, but it should have stopped there.
Show his surprise and his recoil, and have something intervene the fight so it ends to be continued later.

Agree. Trained by Luke years ago, then trained by Snoke. I was shaking my head throughout that entire fight.

Also, the ending would have been much more powerful if Rey would have gotten destroyed by Kylo. That could have actually provided a strong impetus for her to seek out and become trained by Luke.

Instead, I'm sitting there watching the end thinking...why is she wasting her time with Luke? She just picked up a lightsaber for the first time and completely destroyed a Force user that has been training for years. It seems she already has it all figured out.

Yup.

Yet he's scary in his own way. That unhinged personality can be downright frightening. I am with the stormtroopers - slowly backing away.

I laughed at that moment... but thinking back, it takes the emotional weight of it down a notch. What should've been a guy getting mad and throwing a temper... is now remembered as that one funny joke.

Isn't it kind of obvious that Rey isn't a new force/lightsaber user and is just remembering how to use it again? She's been trained brehs.

I can't get this film out of my head. I'm going to have to see it again this week. And then one more time after that on New Years week. So good. Damn the wait for episode 8.

I also think the whole Finn/FN thing is the most wonderful troll in recent memory, I remember all the speculation that they wouldnt release his last name, he doesnt have one

Brilliant

Well he does but its irrelevant

Poe named Finn

Best friends

It was awesome indeed loved it

After thinking it over my rankings for Star Wars is now something along the lines of 7>5>4>3>6>1>2. Top to bottom TFA is a better movie than any of the previous films

You think she was trained to be a skilled Force user at such a young age that she forgot somehow? I mean maybe but it kind of doesn't add up much.

Nah, she is trained and practiced with a staff. She knows how to block and defect. But you can tell she has a very awkward combat style. Focusing on deflection and piercing stabs. Keeping both her own and Kylo's blade away from her body.

I feel like it was obvious.

But a lot of people can't help but jump to conclusions or get angry that it's not getting revealed in this movie.

Nah man. One has good characters, one doesn't. Simple as that.

Anakin: *does creepy molester stare*

Padme: "Stop looking at me like that."

Anakin: 'Why not?"

Padme: "It makes me feel uncomfortable."

Anakin: *keeps doing creepy stare*

Said pair makes out 10 minutes later.

Good characters, people.

EDIT: And Episode I Padme is the best one.

She's clearly force sensitive, but nothing in the movie suggests that she's had any training. if anything, they make it really clear that her parents were probably murdered... because she was force sensitive? and that she's in hiding because of it? obviously echoing Luke in ANH

Yup.

latest

"Somehow" forgot or someone erased her memory.

I really want to see the movie again but in 2D, I felt the 3D was a bit too distracting for my taste and the colors and movement seemed off, can't wait for it to come out on bluray

This is the only thing that could rectify my disappointment with her organic super power up that we see in the final act. If she's Luke's daughter, and had already had years of training by her father...and then is able to remember those teachings and employ them at the end of TFA - well, that would completely change the complexion of the film for me, making it much, MUCH better.

I just hope that's the route they take.

Quite possibly.

Also I'm not sure about the timeline but Kylo must have not been trained by Luke all that long. Did they say how many years Luke has been missing? Kylo is someone that is not in tune with either the light or dark side of the force in TFA. Rey is a prodigy. It's not master-vs-noob, it's student-vs-prodigy.

Kylo even said she was powerful with the Force. It's what kept her alive this long. But her tapping in at the end, coupled with her anger of seeing Han and (presumably at the time) Finn both getting killed, she's using that rage against Kylo. I said last night, she was channeling the force at the end but in the wrong way, and that's what gave her the upper hand.

this. You could see her raging and using the force in darkish way.

Also I speculate she is a skywalker too, I just don't know yet if she's luke daughter or Leia's and Han's( they could have made a pact not to tell her and leave her on jakku and see if she doesn't turn to the dark side like her brother)

This could probably go in the OT, but just incase it's a bit of a spoiler...

It's staggering how many of the released toys are nowhere to be seen. Finn's speeder, Poe's speeder, first order speeder, snow speeder, sand speeder, first order walker. There was even a Constable Zuvio figure (including black series version).

Wonder if this points to some serious (late) cuts in all three acts, and might allow a major blue ray special edition like Lord of the Rings.

It's not obvious and you're supposed to make a logical leap to put together what they were hinting.

If you're asking the audience to make a leap in logic, you're opening yourself up for different levels of interpretation. There's no need to talk down to other fans who saw it differently.

Yup.

Yeah, he's constantly questioning himself. Hurt not hurt, it doesnt help him against people on his level like Rey. Not only was he injured but hes also not confident at all in his abilities. There's obviously much more to him and i think thats what people dont like. Theres more but we dont know it, so it just comes off as bad. He does have his grandfathers temper though. Just not his confidence.

Just watched it amazing.

Lol Kylo Ren telling Rey she needs a master then prepares to get his ass handed to him. What a beatdown.

So how did Po escape Jakku did the resistance just find him there after the First Order left and stuff?

I have this weird feeling that her memories were wiped or something before being dropped off on Jakku

It doesn't matter how experienced you are with a melee weapon - the guided reflexes that Jedi/Sith/Force users possess is unrivaled by anyone not attuned to the Force. The subtext of the film made it clear that the Force was not Finn's future. The fight between him and Kylo should have been over in two seconds.

I can accept the argument that Rey was able to fare better given that she's apparently an incredibly powerful Force user, but she was still untrained.

And even if you throw out the "Kylo was injured" rationalization, it still doesn't explain why the Force completely fails him when he tried to summon the blue lightsaber - which instead magically ends up in the hands of Rey.

They leave it open, there isn't a definitive point. The same force sound plays after the bloody hand touches his helmet, Kylo takes a notice of him immediately after that scene, he breaks from the indoctrination (hint he has an awakening), Maz clearly sees something in him when he speaks but her answer in "not now," and he still manages to get a strike on Kylo during their duel. They can really go either way for the rest of the trilogy.

How long do blu rays tend to take to release? I honestly cant wait to watch this again in comfort several times in a row

It is so good to have Star Wars back, especially this thread, 176 pages in a week or so and eeverytime i refresh like 2-3 pages more of discussion.

Do you have children? 7 years old watching 2 guys in love is really strange for them, lol.

But yeah, I could see Finn and Rey ending up together.

It's only really strange If you're bad at parenting.
It's 2015, no reason children should grow up thinking two men in life is strange unless they are intentionally being raised that way. Especially because, ya know, it's another galaxy with aliens everywhere.

Still, i read that as way more of a bromance anyway.
