[SPOILERS] Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Thread #2) - One Thumb Up

Wait a minute. How does Luke ever get Anakin's light saber in the OT anyway? Obi-Wan has it and gets killed by Vader, dropping it on the Death Star. WTF lol.

edit: Or is that Obi-Wan's own? It really looks like there was only that one. Luke doesn't seem to have it on his belt.

That's Ben's saber that Ben is using. He never uses Anakin's at any point. Luke keeps it on him at all times once Ben gives it to him.

Obi took Ani's lightsaber from his body at Mustafar in Sith
Obi gives Ani's lightsaber to Luke (lying about your father wanted you to have this when you were old enough blah blah) in ANH

Obi kept his own lightsaber throughout the whole time (actually his third, his first being kicked into the Theed Palace reactor shaft by Maul in TPM and his second being taken from him when he was captured in Clones)

I know all that, I'm saying in ANH it looks like there is only one saber ever in the movie. I guess some prop shots would show a difference, difficult to tell in the movie.

Maybe Pablo will tweet about it later and you can tell us about it.

Don't get your panties in a bunch.

I'm still wondering how the heck Maz got Anakin's lightsaber back after it was dropped in Cloud City. I'm guessing it'll be revealed in VIII?

They're not.

Maybe. There were versions of the saber-vision that explained how she got a hold of it, but they were cut on the way to the final film.

Not sure it really matters all that much. "Some dude found it at the bottom of Cloud City" basically covers it.

I get the feeling they won't directly reveal it in the actual films but probably elaborate on it in a comic or novel or something.

I always thought it was kind of funny that Obi-Wan scolds Anakin for losing his lightsaber on Coruscant when he loses his own so much. One of those small things that points to Obi-Wan being reckless like he told Yoda in ESB, as well as the whole jump-out-the-window thing in AotC. He likes to tell Anakin to be patient and follow the rules and then gets himself in trouble all the time.

I'm kind of expecting that they'll just go with what happened in the old continuity: a maintenance droid found it. Except this time it won't get taken to Wayland and lead to Luuke.

Well, just got back from seeing it.

Pretty entertaining, lot of things I wanted them to do differently. This is kind of how I feel with all JJ Abrams movies, usually they feel entertaining but never great.

Worse than the originals, although maybe somewhere around Return of the Jedi. Has been a while since I watched them though. Definitely, better than the prequels.

This is a small detail, but I love that the lightsaber is found in a small, wooden chest. In such a futuristic setting, having placed in something aged like that adds this mythical, ancient feeling to it.

I'd give them a rematch. ROTJ, while containing some of the best stuff from the OT, doesn't hold up close to as well as the other two.

Yep, they would have said how it came to Maz in this film if they were going to.

You don't really need much more explanation than someone found it.

I suppose it doesn't matter much. I just figured the "it's a story for another time" might be them implying they'll acknowledge it in a future film, but I suppose not. I mean, retrieving that lightsaer could be an interesting story in and of itself.

It was also in a little box in ANH:)

In the script Kylo had it at some point. When he says "this belongs to me", makes it doubly true.

Maybe my eyes aren't properly adjusted but after seeing the film a third time I think the ship leaving Jakku when she was a child looks a lot like the dropships that you saw used by the first order at the start of the film.

Of course a proper still photo of both would probably debunk my theory real quick so yeah.

They will be in part of the whole star wars project from now to 2020. That mean choregraphy for combats AND acting. They're workng on Star Wars Rogue One, but maybe we will meet those guys again in VIII and IX (i think it could be cool that Rey, Finn and Chewbacca allies with them)

If they were responsible for the final lightsaber duel, then they did a fanfuckingtastic job

the mom behind me told her son it`s not Luke " ,, na that`s not luke. He doesnt look like that"

i couldnt believe what i was hearing.
If you're ever wondering, in ten years, how the kid behind the counter at Burger King managed to get your simple order totally wrong, just think back to that moment.

i don' tknow if they're responsible for that, J.J.A just saw the Raid and wants them in the movie.

But i know that they will work for that kind of style art in the next movies and that Daisy Ridley is really training.

I think that the first fight in ep8 after the training with Luke, we will be like this:

Easily my least favorite of the seven, but I enjoyed it. The highs were good, but boy were the lows a crash and burn. Needed more of the awesome X-Wing pilot, less of Ren's whining. Felt like they just candy picked and/or renamed from the books and tossed away whatever didn't worked.

My favorite scene was them jacking the TIE Fighter.

You truly liked this one less than Attack of the Clone?!

Nah, the drops ships are really boxy looking. Not like the ship that took off.

Calling it now: Rey's staff is either an old light-saber and she doesn't know, or an old ceremonial fake-lightsaber. Why would they design the ends to look exactly like a light saber?

One detail that I don't see mentioned often (but I loved), was how the scavengers immediately rushed to the TIE parts once they were shot down. Nice attention to detail.

Well that's nuts but each to their own.

Well, I enjoyed the prequels, so maybe that's why. This felt like it tried to be as far from the prequels as possible in favor of rehashing stuff from the classic. The scenes with the pilot were easily my favorite. Han's scenes were great, but they really didn't need to be there.

I speculate that the Republic were using the Resistance as a proxy because they didn't want to get involved, but it couldn't hurt to show some clash between Leia's faction and whoever's running the Republic(Mothma?). As it is, they're just kind of... there. Magically they're on the run again, and the First Order are a feared superpower out of nowhere.

I'm with you on that. ^_^ I think I already mentioned that idea in the first spoiler thread.

The staff just looks like a old lightsaber turnted into a staff >.<

I wasn't expecting Boyega to eclipse Ridley like he did. Dude can act. He was easily the best part of the film along with the little bits of Oscar Isaac.

If she had the staff in the flashback vision it would add some credibility to that theory. I don't think I remember seeing it though.

Why would she have it then? In the vision, other than the child part, it's never really her.

I said a few pages back it would be cool if in VIII Luke grabs her staff, asks her she got that from. She says she found it on Jakku years ago and used it since. We hear a psssh sound and both ends start to turn iron-red and then two red-beams come out of each ends: it was an old dark-force user's weapon that could only be force-activated and which had been sealed. It wanted to be found.

(lightsabers are now SW's LoTR rings)

It's not totally nuts. It seems reasonable to know what the Republic has been up to since the Empire dissolved. It'd be nice to not have a resistance but a Republic.

The OT dos this well with Vader talking with the generals, or Sheev and Vader discussing politics when arrived on DS2. TFA was missing that scene or speech to work in the political landscape. The Hitler speech would've been a great place to work that in but instead they went for the unearned fire and brimstone-esque speech.
