Final Fantasy IX coming to PC & Smartphones

FFIX's slowness is mostly about long battle intros and the way turn actions get queued up too far ahead (paradoxically, keeping the ATB running during long animations instead of pausing it a la 6/7/8/X-2/XII makes the battle system feel *slower*). Not sure simply speeding up the ATB bar will fix that.

It's a full-on everything speed-up toggle, like in an emulator, so it should circumvent the issue entirely. Probably not the best way to play the hardest bosses for obvious reasons, but at the very least you can use it to skip the actual animations.

Oh, I could have sworn it was. Maybe I'm thinking of VIII?

Yeah. FFVII Steam was more of a "Oh OK so you people are too fucking good for our service with DRM well have it your way" iso dump. With FFVIII they started adding these new features.

One reason I'm excited, you could always emulate the game but the horrible PS1 polygon jitter can't be fixed. I can finally play the best Final Fantasy with smooth 3D models/animations.

Someone posted "With high-definition graphics, newly added achievements, auto-save, high speed mode, and several game boosting features, the game is easy to pick up and play no matter where you go."

Think it's a translation maybe from the site.

Ahh, High Speed Mode I believe is just something you can toggle on and off. It's nice, but 3X is probably only something I'd want for grinding through EZ trash mobs. For battles that I actually have to think, I'd probably only want something like, I dunno 1.5 times the original speed, or something like that.

We'll have to see. I love the game to death, but like I said, the crawling pace of it's battle system made subsequent play-throughs tough.

Really surprised I and II haven't made it to Steam yet. They're pretty much everywhere already, besides PC and the new consoles. Whatever the case, day 1 for FFIX on PC.

That's my concern as well. It was rather difficult to heal after big moves because you never were quite sure when the spell would actually go off. Especially problematic in the final fights.

Hopefully a PS4 version is coming too along with FFVIII

This is the #1 selling point for me.

The next will be, if it works similarly to the FF7/FF8 PC ports, swapping all the music with orchestral/cover/remix versions.

And just after that would be potential mod support for things such as:
1. better backgrounds(resampling of PS1 backgrounds+Using the unearthed HQ ones where possible)

2. Better models/textures

3. Alternate shading modes

(basically all the stuff FF7 has gotten over the years)

Oh my god, they're bringing my favorite Final Fantasy back with improvements! Will pick it up on PC day 1. Can't wait to play it again

FF7 probably did really well based on how many people I've seen with it. For the amount of people who whined about said port on the internet it sure didn't stop anyone from buying it!
It was the theme that won me over I swear!!!!!

*goes to make another black chocobo.

Good timing too. I just started FFVII and I'm really getting into it. Gonna finish that, FFVIII, and finally get to play FFIX.

Finally get a chance to replay it. I already have the PSX disc and the PSN version on PS3, but I just can't get past PSX-era jaggies anymore.

That's part of the charm of the originals on emulation though, and PS1 games in general. The PSX look, some people love it! I like it personally, but I don't mind another version without judder of course.

Looking forward to this!
