Final Fantasy IX coming to PC & Smartphones

I'm guessing most people will be picking this up on mobile. I couldn't imagine playing this on a keyboard.

I mean, back in 2000 I did play FF8 on a keyboard, but basically every PC gamer I know or have met has had a controller for the past five years at minimum.

Not this version. You can play the normal version if you have a ps3 or psv, and I sold both when I bought a PS4.

Its coming, SE is already has the rumored XII and likely VIII in the PS4 pipeline, the PS4 and PC ports are likely handled by the same team so they get it going on PC which makes the PS4 port much easier.

Please it will come to PS4 few months after this initial release. Square said that the PS4 will also be a FF hub too.

EDIT: There were rumors of VIII coming to PS4 as well, so they're coming.

Good good. FF9 is my favorite FF game, I need this.

Yay, definitely gonna buy this, luckily I have yet to beat FF9 (got about 10 hours in once) but forgot about it because the battle system was slow as fuck. There was literally about 2 seconds of scenery view when you entered a battle before you could select a command. Hopefully its not unfairly priced like 20 quid.

I'm just hoping it will be easy to mod. SE mobile to PC ports are usually pretty lazy ports. I don't want a touch screen like UI again. Hopefully someone does like the FF3 steam port and mod it if that's the case.

Can you imagine Final Fantasy Tactics with KB+M? Oh gawd please make it happen. It'd become one of those games that I'm always playing.

It blows my mind that people are actually thinking about playing this console classic on a keyboard.
Yes, navigating menus will be an impossibility for keyboard users.

Neat! Hoping input mapping is a bit less of a hassle than in the FF7 PC port - all the BUTTON 1 2 3 etc labels got a bit confusing. Glad they're adding in (at least some of) the conveniences from FF7's PS4 port as well. Speed-up mode especially. I'm assuming that the pre-battle loading and load masking will be cut down on anyways, but even without it FF9 felt a bit slow.

Lol.

edit. oh, you meant FF 9minus1

^true, FF9 characters needed more BELTS, and ZIPPERS. that Nomura feeling

in fairness, Eiko is pretty ugly, but most of the other characters look fine, good even. so no, not really.

who used Eiko in the party anyway~

Lulu is a goddess in a completely different realm than FF9 designs.
You're a fool to even suggest otherwise.Even FF6 designs don't stand a chance.Kefka wears terrible Pajamas .Oh~oh~oh~ho~!

It has my favourite boss music out of all the FFs I've played. Made me panic every time it started playing XD

Can't wait to play it again!

I'm really interested in how this came to be, what assets it uses, whether it's original code or rebuilt etc. I'm very happy about this news though. All signs pointed to it being a lost cause when it went untouched for so long.

I'm syced! I can't wait to play this on my Shield.

I'm not dropping $20 for this, though. SE charges way too much for these ports.

I'll finally be able to play this game!

I mean, I could've played it on my PS1 I guess, but I think secretly I always hoped it would come to PC (and that somebody will mod the battle speed to be faster).

Damn, bought it on vita a while ago when it was on sale but never got around to playing it. Guess I'll wait for this definitive version then.

Need word if the multiplayer option will be in the PC port before I pull the trigger.

Playing FF IX with my wife was one of my favorite gaming experiences. We're about due for a replay.

I thought most of that was lost?? Maybe someone can go dumpster diving for those assets someday...

Man, Square's lack of foresight around this time is incredible. Storage wasn't that expensive in 2000, not when you're spending 40+ mil on development to begin with.

It was an industry-wide thing. Very few studios took good care of that stuff. Who honestly would've foreseen that digital distribution would make those assets valuable 15-20 years down the road?

I'm a bit conflicted over this one.

On the one hand I love the game and remember it fondly. On the other hand I think FF9 has some of the worst sections in any of the "good" final fantasy games (Treno, summoner village, the tree, the swamp...). I think it'll be a really difficult game to sit through again.

Glad it lives on though.

It was a different time when remasters weren't really a thing. Actually I don't remember any case where a developer has re-rendered any pre-rendered stuff from that era and published it today, so it's not just Square.

I just realized that I can't remember what I named Garnett on my game. Maybe I kept the default (awful) name.

I hope that at some point someone will crack down on these fake "I'm a console gamer and don't understand how PC gaming works" posts. It's starting to get tiring. Don't we get enough of serious posts like these already, why do we need to add fake posts on top of that?
