Final Fantasy VII PS4 |OT| One last time before the remake

Well, everyone has their level 4 limits now except for Cloud. Guess I better go back to the Gold Saucer.

This is my first time through and I have enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

Same lol. I'm at like a few hours in. But to be fair, I just 100% it for the 1st time earlier this year so.....I'm gonna take my time.

To be honest, this game 3x speed is awful. I'm just gonna take it slow and enjoy it for the 6th time.....

also Xenoblade X happened.

Lol, yea I think 3x was overkill.

2x would have been perfect.

I dont hink its that bad, the worst cheat is the max HP/MP/LIMIT. Really breaks the game. :(

I don't think I used God Mode even once.

In fact, it's such a novel feature that I totally forgot it existed, lol

Although 3x speed was way too fast at times, battles were flashing by at light-speed.

I had to turn 3x off inside inns and small indoor places like that.

I always get everyone's limits; it's been tradition since I was 11. I just can't help it.

It's weird though; like I said, I still don't even care about the associated trophies. I'm just never going to be a trophy kind of guy. But all the same... I have to get the limits.

Just got to part 3. It's been since 1999/2000 since I last played this game so I am loving the 3x for battles. Trying to earn that platinum though once I beat the game, I have to restart it since I got Tifa for the date at the Gold Saucer.

I really hope that VII-R still uses the same or a similar Materia and Item system because I really enjoy them a lot... especially the slow vs growth balance.

The weapons in general are a lot of visual fun, too. Love when I get things like the Hardedge, Nail Bat, Shotgun, Dragoon Lance, Drill Arm, Slash All for Barret's chain gun or bazooka arm, etc. Combined with some of the sort if dieselpunk settings and Shinra corp enemies, aesthetically the random battles are still so much fun for me.

I 'finished' the game over a week ago and tried to start up a FFX file (got the HD PS4 port on sale), and yet I keep end up playing VII yet every night for a hour just to goof around with different weapons/monsters at different parts of the game (I made save files at all my favorite places to fight, e.g. the underwater reactor, Shinra HQ, etc).

I've said it before but SE really need to do this with 8 and 9. The 3x speed is one of the greatest things to happen to old jrpgs. 9, especially, needs it.

Fuuuuu...sigh i knew it was unavoidable

A little late to this, but the Knights and Phoenix and all that stuff is the overkill method of taking on Emerald.

There is a more strategic way to fight him, and judging by your previous comments, you'll like it:

Big spoiler for the main method of taking on Emerald Weapon:

Emerald's signature attack is called "Aire Tam". Materia backwards if you didn't notice.

Basically, the attack does 1000 damage times the number of Materia you have equipped. So naturally, if you have 10 Materia equipped on a character, you'll receive 9999 in damage.

The trick with Emerald is to go about it as minimalist as possible, and learn to dip into your item stash as best you can.

Edit: Sorry, it's 1111 damage per materia. This means you can proc lucky 7s if you have a character with 9999hp and 2 materia equipped.

I'm playing PS1 version on Vita and wondering how to arrange materia? In materia menu i press arrange, then arrange again, but nothing happens only what sounds like a confirm noise? Driving me insane!

Arrange is just sort, isn't it?

It's going to arrange alphabetical by type.

So A-Z Green, A-Z Blue, A-Z Red, A-Z Yellow, A-Z Purple

I probably have the colors out of order, but you get the idea.

God damn it Emerald is a really bullshit boss. Already removed as much materia from my party as possible but I just get screwed when he uses the beam followed by a counter, 4 beam attacks, then aire Tam. I'll eventually be able to do it but it feels like a total RNG fight.

Nope, not RNG at all, it's incredibly scripted. You just have to come prepared and it is a cake walk.

Do you have Final Attack + Phoenix on a character and if so what about KoTR?

Edit:
I had crap tons of problems with him, until my friend told me his strategy: Counter-Mime.

Get Counter-Mime on a character. Pair Knights of the Round and HP Absorb. Use W-Summon to cast KOTR, and Mime it. Now everytime Emerald Weapon hits you, you'll counter with two free KOTR casts that heal you.

This is the strategy I have used since I first beat them down lol. It's just such a perfect way to destroy these bastards.

I paired it with All Lucky 7s, just to be sure. Went down quicker than Ruby!

Thanks for the tips everyone! I know I could for sure beat him but it would require a lot of ap grinding so I can get more casts of Knights of the Round. I'll probably just beat the game later, overpowered as I am, since im already feeling the burnout after hitting level 99 with cloud.

I ended up just auto-omnislashing them both to death. Although I had all recommended materia set up correctly, I screwed up the w-summon order and had to rely on luck to win. After the Final Attack with Phoenix, Emerald never attacked me again and I could unleash Cid's, Barret's and Cloud's limits infinitely thanks to the new cheats :p They really ruin the game's pace and I wish I could ignore them but nope :/

You need only one cast. Mime gives you free casts. MP and all!

Does anybody think there's a chance that the current Steam version of FFVII will be updated to have the same cheat modes as the PS4 port? Would be nice to have for my last playthrough before 2017. Though, to be fair, I never really had an issue with its encounter rate or battle speed, but my patience for random encounters and mindless turn-based systems is wearing thin nowadays. Even used cheats for the first time in my life in a JRPG a while ago for The Last Remnant so I could just skip battles and enjoy the plot.

I will get it on Steam anyway, but an update would be a nice extra.

Been struggling to get a blue chocobo in the last 2 days, no success despite trying nearly everything, exiting Farm over and over, random fights to reset RNG etc. Already got 2 green ones waiting, male & female but after 100 or so attempts no blue one, guess it's time to feed greens & raise some ranks in Gold Saucer Races before trying again...

This guide helped to get a Gold Chocobo in about 15 minutes without any racing.

Does the battle frame rate in this run at 60 fps like the PS1 version?

The battle animations in the PS1 version ran at 15 frames per second but the actual battle menus and frame rate for the output itself was 60 fps.

This effected things like the Tifa's reels along with the fluidity of how the commands were selected.

I know there a mod for the PC version which hacks in 60 fps mode, was wondering if the PS4 has this fixed too?

Nope, tifa's reels are ass in this version.

Been watching Floe play FFVII on stream, decided to buy it during the steam sale and install the hardcore mod - should give a nice remix on the game, since i've already played through it many times before. Would like to play it with my Wii U pro controller (I own a mayflash adapter), but for some reason I can't get the game to recognize it... and I appear to have lost all my old controller->keyboard mappings and set ups (and all the programs appear to have gone from freeware to shareware).

I do have an old version of Xpadder on another hard drive - anyone know what a good "firing rate" is for buttons mapped to keys? Don't want to accidentally choose attack options because a button fires twice when i press it once.

This is one of my favorite games and I've played it through numerous times throughout my life.

That said, I'm looking to start a breezy play-through to really just enjoy the narrative. To that end, I plan on employing the R3 cheat.

To those of you who have already done the same thing: how long does such a play-through take? As a caveat, I will not be using 3x speed, only the R3 cheat.

Do you have to hit 100% of those Barrett flags to get the "Bromance" trophy, or just a certain percentage?

No, but then you better not mess up with Aerith. Tifa can be easily played out from the date early on in the Shinra building by repeating a certain dialogue option. There used to be a dialogue option in Cosmo Canyon that you could repeat to max out the relationship with Barret, but I think they fixed that for the PS4 version.

Anyways, I messed up quite a lot of relationship points with Barret early on in the game, but still managed to date him.

Can I ask why you wouldn't use the speed cheat, even if it's only in battle?

It's still in there (cosmo canyon text loop)

Seems fast as hell and aesthetically irritating. I wouldn't be surprised if impatience drove me to activate it in battles, though.

I thought the same but got used to it really fast. The game automatically shuts it off at points and there's no harm in manually shutting it off for certain things (temple of the ancients, sky tracking Weapon, etc.). I'd suggest giving it a shot as it makes the game soooooooooo much breezier.

Assuming I use 3x speed sparingly, is a 20-hour play-through using the R3 cheat realistic?

Sweet, I won't restart then. I have to get back into this tonight.

FFVII HD port to PS4 is fantastic, and comes with some great features/options to make the game playable today. (3X speed / No Encounter)

FFIX HD port coming to PC and phones... looks fantastic!

But why oh why did they just jump right over FFVIII? Will it come?? I hope it comes soon and to PS4... please please please!

Im sure the FF8 PC port will come to PS4 depending on the successfulness of FF7 Port.

I hope so anyway FF8 is my favourite.
