your best bet might be buying a code from greenmangaming, as the game isn't being released in Japan on Steam

Yep, I did that a week or two ago when that discount code was up. ;)

Just couldn't remember when the official release date was. Thanks for the replies everyone!

Can you quick equip items in this game? Like potions and stuff. Or do you have to pause the game each time in-battle to go through your inventory

You can hotkey up to 5 items now, but you can't see what you have hotkeyed while you are playing so you won't know how many items you have left until you either run out or check your inventory...

recent steam physical releases such as Metal Gear Solid 5 and Fallout 4 have literally just been a Steam installer with no game files included.

It's not looking too good. :/

EDIT: Fallout 4 was just 5GB, requiring you to download 20GB. It still wasn't that great.

DDDA retail version ships on two DVD9 discs. A good 90+% of the build will be on there. Technically it's the full build, but some files have changed since the gold master has been created.

In any case, devs are still putting final spit and polish on it. So yes, while the game is more less complete, expect a Day One patch.

Any word on mod support or is that going to continue just being unofficial?

Additionally it should be noted that this maybe not working perfectly isn't really a big issue as I never found going into the item menu on console to be that bothersome. Sure, it might not be 100% optimal, but just putting items you need frequently at the beginning of your pouch makes it so you can use consumables very quickly.

EDIT: fixed

This chart should be helpful to people.

Thanks, very useful for somebody like me who hasn't played the game yet :)

Warrior seems like my thing, assassin on the other hand looks cool as well. Decisions decisions

I wonder how the mouse+keyboard controls actually are. I think i will go with a bow and aiming with a mouse should be better.. right?

Supposedly, yes:
Yeah.

It's fine, once you remap a bit. A multi button mouse seems to be really handy for the quick skills. Bow use really shines with a mouse, as the game doesn't artificially slow your aiming to simulate a controller.

Only annoying bits I've noticed so far is that the escape key and arrow keys seem to feature in some menus, despite what your movement keys are.

Interestingly those two are almost at opposite ends. They're both fun, but Warrior is notably a more limited class with less skill slots than any other vocation, while Assassin is probably the most flexible and accomodating class in game.

Unofficial. MT Framework engine just isn't setup for official mod tools. So we'll defer to the unofficial modding community who seem to have a wealth of experience from past MTF-based titles. I'd expect something cool in the coming days ;-)

What's the recommended difficulty to start on if you're familiar with Souls games (I've beaten both Dark Souls games on NG+(+++...) multiple times)? I read that there's more emphasis on character's stats than in Souls game which could make starting out on Hard a little tricky.

Fwiw, I plan to start with either strider or fighter and then transition into assassin because I like its moveset (checked some vids). Haven't played the game before on consoles so this will be my first time.

Hard is fine, it requires not getting hit more than once/at all early game, but that's fairly standard for Souls as long as you consider every fight the same as one of the early Knights or whatever stronger mobs you encounter. If you find it too annoying/hard, you can switch down, but you can't switch up from normal if you find the game too easy, so I think it's the better choice.

Just play safe and wait for stuff to be distracted by your pawns chatter, then hit them in the back, and it's not really that hard.

Preordered on Steam! Well excited, one of the games I missed out on when I had a 360 but I loved the demo. Now if they can get Nier on PC this year too that'd be perfect...

I really wish you could take control if your pawns in this game. it would have been super simple I imagine, missed opportunity in my opinion.

Gifted copies should unlock, surely. I'm in Japan and got my received game preloaded and good to go. All Capcom games aren't available to me on account of region-locking bullshit, but I've had no issues playing gifted copies.

If I'm destined to stare at a preloaded toggle beyond the release date, it'll be tears at dawn.

I feel you.
There are so many region locked games on steam as well on my region store. Gift or off-site stores are the only way to get them.

Where is a good 'before I play' guide or beginners tips? Even just a "this is vaguely how each class plays"

The other thing is like is there a relatively spoiler free guide of "don't be dumb at the game" for instance like with some RPGs the first thing I've done is jump in and then buy heaps of shit at every town, and vendor shit when actually you should wait for drops and disenchant! But in others it's different... more like don't let me waste my time guides.

I'm overthinking it but whatever.

I'll certainly play as an Assassin, or at least try it first. It seems the one that'll fit my current playstile. However, I'm still unsure about my Main Pawn.

I'm liking the idea of the Warrior keeping the aggro of larger enemies while I damage them, but a buffer/healer might be useful as well...

I'm going to spend 5 hours deciding this and the look of my characters, won't I?

fun thing is that it rarely feels like you are being penalized for choosing certain classes, so just roll with whatever you want, not to mention there are 2 other pawns you can hire from other people.

I do like having a mage pawn because other people's pawns sometimes don't have the skills I like (the status ailment ones)

You can basically replace every song in the game with whatever song you want if you know how. And it's really not difficult.

does the game use the weird header FLAC that RE5/REV1/2 and whatnot use? not xsew which is like a wav with some strange header but xgnew or whatever?

is it easier to find tanks? are tanks even useful?
I think a good support pawn with the skills you like definitely makes a lot of sense. but I am going sorcerer myself.
is the mage the only vocation that can heal?

The OT will probably have some info. There's a very detailed wiki that has a lot of info too. I can't really think of some crazy "don't do that or else" situations in this. Do carry oil flasks for your lantern as it sucks when you run out of oil in the middle of the night/down a dungeon, but just one is generally enough and you can get by without it anyway.

There's gear in chests and stuff but it's not the main source of equipement, buying stuff from the vendors is how you gear up, and then you sell stuff back, there's no reason to keep gear(other than stuff that can be used by other classes then you can keep them in your "bank" to equip if you switch classes, although it might be outdated at that point and you could find better stuff on the vendors).

I guess one thing is you'll come across some Portcrystals in the game, you have to drop them in the world to create fast travel points. Generally speaking, you'll want to drop one in every place you get one, as you'll probably have to come back at some point later on for sidequests, and they're generally given in places that are far from cities. So when you get one, walk out of the dungeon you're in at the end and drop it outside. It'll save you 5-10mins the next time you have to run there.

I think I'll go with Assassin. Will obviously try everything, but assassin seems to have a lot of options with bows, daggers, swords and shield.

The difference here is that the game wasn't designed with the idea of being one-shotted by regular enemies even when you are where you are supposed to be. In souls games you can dodge and block whenever you want, and you don't really fight a ton of enemies at once. In this only certain classes can block and only certain classes can dodge, and you often get into fights with large groups of enemies. Depending on what class you choose, this can make the early parts of the game extremely frustrating, especially for people who have never played the game before and don't really know how things work.

The good thing as you said though, is the ability to go back down to normal and not have to restart if you find it too much to handle.

I still think it's best for new players to play normal difficulty, just to get a better idea of how the game is designed to be played. It's still pretty tough and you can definitely get one-shotted if you wander into the wrong areas too early lol.

Yes, unless Capcom goes out if its way to leave Japan in the preload state. Bethesda did this with the unedited version of Wolf14 and Germany, IIRC.

Nothing like that. The game simply isn't being released officially in Japan. So receiving it as a gift is fair game.
