mods plz ban Into Free haters

Into Free is something I want to die to.

Like, I want to die in such a way that Into Free is applicable to the situation. So that when they make a movie, and my character is in their dying moments, the song starts playing, and the only tears are tears of pure joy, mixed with the blinding glory of my situation.

This game is amazing, the combat system is great. I've played lot of hours with XBox 360 version of it and very glad to see it on PC. Dragon's Dogma rules, Dark Souls sucks.

Oh Boris, glad he's working on an ENB ahead of time seeing as how graphics were one of the game's shortcomings. Also it seems like he released a version of the ENB already, its most likely a test version though.

I think Capcom and Sega have found some weird formula for success, here. Make a great game for consoles, which will initially sell poorly because dumb reasons. Let word of mouth build up for a few years, then polish it up and bring it to PC. It worked for Valkyria Chronicles, and it seems to be working for Dragons Dogma. Everyone wins! I think.

Jokes aside, I can't wait to play this. Too bad it releases right when I'm going back to college.

Grabbed it off of GMG; pretty excited. Enjoyed it on the PS3, but playing this at 60 FPS without borders makes it much more enticing to jump back in.

Dragons Dogma never sold poorly on consoles, it probably just never met the insanely high expectations Capcom had for it at the time. It was especially successful in Japan, especially for a new IP.

I'm hoping the PC sales along with the console sales push Capcom to consider a Dragons Dogma 2. Too bad Itsuno is already working on a game, which is likely DMC5. So we'll have to wait a while.

Can't wait until this unlocks! I played a demo of the original release and liked it but couldn't get past the framerate so I was hoping it would one day come out on PC.

This feels like the kind of game I'd really get into.

Wasn't that Capcom expected it sold like Skyrim level?

Yeah, Jan 15 @ 9am PST

They kept repeating that on their stream, so I guess they are sticking to it. There were a few games they actually released a day ahead of the advertised Steam time, guess this won't be :(

Lol. Wife just walked in the room and said "oh christ that game still." First time since I started reviewing where she said that lol.

25PERC-2016GM-WTHGMG still works at GMG.

I was gonna wait awhile because:

A} I just finished completing Dark Souls for the first time and I tend to spread out playing titles in a similar genre to avoid burnout, and

B} I planned to progress through more of my general backlog before snagging it.

Great deals always disrupt my carefully laid-out plans.

is it just me or is there a slight viginette effect going on? wonder if you can disable it.
Yeah there has always been a vignette effect, even on consoles. It's especially bad at night when the games color banding issues really stand out. There isn't an ingame option to disable it currently, but you can disable it if you use ENB.

You don't have to enable any extra stuff from ENB (like SSAO, DoF, Bloom, etc) and can just simply use it to remove the vignette effect, but the current version does have issues with load times and some other stuff that will affect you no matter what.

The assumption that Dragon's Dogma sold poorly is inaccurate
. It, initially simply didn't meet Capcom's lofty expectations. According to Capcom's Investor Relations pages Dragon's Dogma / Dark Arisen sold 2.300.000 on consoles.

Wasn't that Capcom expected it sold like Skyrim level?

I think Capcom no longer uses irrational sales expectations to judge business decisions thankfully.

According to Capcom's Investor Relations pages Dragon's Dogma / Dark Arisen sold 2.300.000 on consoles. Apparently that wasn't good enough for them. Recall this is also the time period where they weren't satisfied with DMC4's 3.000.000 units sold because it wasn't doing Call of Duty numbers or some shit.

I think Capcom no longer uses irrational sales expectations to judge business decisions thankfully.

I don't doubt that 2.3m across what is essentially one-and-a-half games and a period of three years is unsatisfactory. Dragon's Dogma alone was Capcom's most expensive project until RE6 surpassed it.

Again, I think narrative that Capcom is disappointed with a game that effectively has sold 2.3 million units is simply a false one at this point. Also consider that Dragon's Dogma / DA is Capcom's 20th best selling game in the company's 30 year history. If you are not satisfied with the sales of your game which ends up being in the top 20 from a company that has put out hundreds and hundreds of games in it's three decades of gaming, then color me surprised.

Keep in mind Dragon's Dogma beats out a lot of big Capcom IP's in Japanese sales. Hopefully the PC version and a seemingly obvious would-be PS4/XboxOne port can help the Western markets catch up to how the franchise sells in Japan.

EDIT: No details on the budget costs of DD is known. I know they said it was one of their bigger projects. But in development time, Itsuno began working no DD after he finished Devil May Cry 4 in 2008. So the game had about a 3 year development cycle from 2009 - 2011. As it was released relatively early in 2012. And a 3 year dev., cycle certainly isn't abnormal. Mind you, it could be even less if there was much downtime for the staff, Itusno was also supervising Ninja Theory during this time frame.

Good to see that you can disable it, will definitely be using enb regardless for that AO.

Dragon's Dogma was a slow burner, it started off weak but became a cult hit. It's no surprise Capcom felt it necessary to capitalize on this and release Dark Arisen which was a platinum seller in of itself and extremely successful when you consider it was glorified DLC attached to the main game.

Again, the narrative that Capcom is disappointed with a game that effectively has sold 2.3 million units is simply a false one at this point. Understand that Dragon's Dogma / DA is Capcom's 20th best selling game in the company's 30 + year history.

So Dragon's Dogma actually sold quite well all said and done.

It strikes me as exceedingly unlikely that Capcom's then-most-expensive project to date and its expansion pack-laden re-release selling a combined 2.3m across three years was a profitable venture. But that doesn't necessarily make belated ports a bad idea as they're relatively cheap, so I'm not trying to suggest that Capcom is wasting its time with the PC release; on the contrary, it'll likely be successful when considered as its own project.
