The Division - 15 minutes of new gameplay

I assume thats what they'll do, but they seem to have a sweet thing going with Siege. I hope it continue.

2nd DLC will be sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet

I wouldn't say the thing with siege is sweet...when it's 1 map and 2 operators every quarter for only 1 year. That amount of content is nowhere close to an expansion that you usually find in games that are like Division.

Also Siege is Ubisoft Montreal, this is by Ubisoft Massive (formerly Massive Games) so it will be depending a lot on what the developers want.

Smaller then that. But this is NY. Not much open space. Believe someone here made a comparison with Fallout and was the very close the same as that game.

I've got three XB1 access codes to give out for the upcoming closed Beta. Send me a PM if you would like one. First-come, first-served.

Edit: Codes claimed.

Wait so it's fine for Bungie to release a half baked game on day 1, then charge for DLC to open up more (boring) areas, but when Ubi do it, pre-orders cancelled?

No it's not fine. There have literally been countless threads here & around the internet complaining about Destiny and Bungie's shitty practices. I myself wish I'd never allowed myself to be taken for that ride. So when it comes to The Division I'll personally wait for impressions opposed to giving Ubisoft the benefit of the doubt.

This game is half-baked because.. why, exactly? Because the area from the trailer 3 years ago isn't in it?

I'm not talking about the quantity of the content, but how the content is gated/locked.

"Because Ubisoft maaaaaaan"

tbh they (bungie) have gotten a lot of flack for it, but this is Ubisoft.

I don't care about the map size right now. It looks plenty big.

However, having played the alpha and having watched more gameplay streams and video than could be considered healthy, the stupid sponginess of enemies is what has me really concerned.

Right now it's like they're trying to compensate poor PvE AI choices by having enemies with these absurd HP values. Don't know if I like that.

Dat screen tearing on X1... performance are pretty bad overall, I wish Ubisoft delay their games to make them good but I'm dreaming too much.

I think he means that all content in Siege is free.
As in, everyone gets it, for free.
It's free.

No, because:
- Braindead AI
- Clunky Animation
IMO

But maybe beta will change my mind :).

I could give you braindead AI based off of what I've seen as well from the footage online... but that's not a fault of this game. It's the fault of just about ALL games for the last who knows how many years? Very few games focus on AI and enemies having a variety of patterns to keep a player on their toes.

If this game is as similar to Destiny as many of us think, then the common enemies are what we are seeing in a lot of these videos, AND we are seeing them on normal mode. Boost the difficulty to hard and get to some more uncommon mobs, and we should start seeing some crazy shit.

Hopefully the beta can showcase that for you and the rest of us.

Animation though? Not seeing it. Animation looks smooth.

Looks farcry from something like Assassin's Creed.
No execution moves from behind?, sliding while running?, prone position?, grappling hook? (I could be wrong as I still don't play the game at all).

Execution moves from behind?

Grappling hook?

Not only do these things not have to do with "Bad animation" at all...

But it seems you have a basic misunderstanding of what kind of game The Division is.

It is not an action adventure game like Tomb Raider, or a stealth game like metal gear, or a third person shooter like Ghost Recon.

It is a Team Based Third Person Action Role Playing Game. And as such, has no need for Execution moves from behind, or grappling hooks. (That said there is an animation in which you hold a gun to the head of an enemy from behind, though I am unsure if it will be in the final game)

The animations themselves look good.

I have to say, the more I see about this game the more I'm looking forward to it. I thought Angry Joe's gameplay video was really good - the developer who is playing with them gave a great description of what was going on as they played.

After watching the video and thinking it over, I'll wait until its cheaper.

the Enemy AI isn't that impressive. With that said, I'm not confident that my squad AI in solo gameplay will be that much better.

Graphics looks good to me and the idea of it and the RPG elements are cool, but i'll wait until its on sale.

As far as I know there is no "Squad AI in solo gameplay".

It is just you playing, and 2-3 friends ideally playing with you.

Like Destiny, the slots are not filled with AI when you play solo.

This isn't made by the studio who made AC. Stealth kills like this were removed a while ago.
They also never had grappling hooks by my knowledge. And while some animations have been changed many of them are the same, sliding while running into cover for instance is still in the game by my knowledge.

Someone with early access to next week’s The Division beta has revealed how many gigabytes you’ll be downloading.

The Division is due for a beta next week on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The PC version goes live January 29, and according to to someone with early access to the client, the download is over 26GB.

Reddit user legate213 posted a screenshot of the UPlay download, which you can see below.

26GB. Not bad at all. Really Really hope that the PC version still has Global Illumination in tact.

It is the one major thing that seems to have been downgraded (Read stripped entirely) from the console versions.

If Global Illumination is still in, the game will still look like the reveal trailer on PC. Or at least so close, it won't be a discussion.

I got the 29th off and if the download speed holds up that won't take long to download at all.

Looking forward to it! Hope to play with some GAFfers

Hah. I expected more tbh.

BigTNaples said pretty much what I was going to say, but you definitely must be convinced this game is something it is not even marketing itself as.

The developer has gone on record over and over again that this game is a RPG first, and a shooter second.

You'll be leveling your character, customizing skills, customizing your equipment and guns, and have quests and a story to complete like a RPG. The combat is a third person shooter VERY similar to Gears of War. It even has the same roll animation from Gears. Early previewers are saying the cover system works great.

I haven't watched anyone come up behind someone to do a stealth takedown /execution so I can't comment if that's in the game or not. I know you can slide into cover. Prone position isn't there simply for balance reasons and to get you to use the cover system. If prone was available in the darkness zone PvP you'd have a very unbalanced TPS, and one that wouldn't work probably. I can't think of any well made TPS that has prone. (Gears, Last of Us, Uncharted, etc)

Grappling hook...??? what the???

And to sum up --- that has jack to do with animations not looking well.

On a different note: I don't get some people in this thread who are posting and watching videos, but aren't even going to try the beta. It's free for pete sakes. The worst thing you can do is NOT try it, your friends buy it and hype you to get it, then you DO get it and you hate it so you waste $. Or on the flip side you don't touch it, and miss out on a great experience.

Try the beta peeps. Free fun is best fun ?

The only thing that honestly worries me about this game is that its Ubisoft and everything they do at launch has a lot of problems.

Well get a better idea of what's happening when the beta goes live but the alpha ran fine. I encountered a few bugs but no server issues at all. Even when they shut down the na servers and I had to connect to EU was playable and everything worked great. Granted well get more volume next weekend and perhaps that will make things dicey. I'm cautiously optimistic.

I feel the only thing that can ruin this games initial launch is if the beta is bad. I'm glad to hear the alpha ran smooth, but now it'll be on all platforms and with a shit ton of people on each going in all at once, and more on the weekend.

Has this developer of Ubi made a AAA game before ? If not, and they pull it off, then hats off to them.

Where do I get my Free Beta Key?

You both misunderstood my point
I said I wouldn't put what they are doing in Siege as sweet considering it's only 1 map per quarter for one year. Because you can bet that it would have been a lot more if they were charging for it.

Massive? They made the World in Conflict and Ground Control series on PC. A shooter RPG is definitely new ground for them but those other titles were excellent. WiC especially. I'm biased but that game sucked so much of my time when I was able to commit the time prior or marriage and kids lol.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Furthermore I'm expecting the PC version to really be more than a port. Should be good !

I'm starting to worry if we've seen all there is to see from this game in these video previews... and it will come down to how long you can personally last doing that over and over.

The Rogue / Dark Zone system is absolutely fantastic... and something that truly makes this game stand out, and the game will definitely live or die by it... but I'm actually starting to wonder if it is enough now.

Is the beta essentially the alpha? with just tweeks ( maybe? I feel the alpha was the beta testing the beta before release )

I'm hoping there's a bit more of endgame that they haven't shown yet. Of course it could be straight up dark zone and this could be a case of running out of dev time. We'll see soon enough.

Where do I get my Free Beta Key?

Too bad we can't make the beta OT early on so people can see the steps, but:

1) Go to amazon.com
2) Pre order the division on platform of choice
(Don't worry your credit card is not charged a cent for this until the game ships)
3) Code is emailed to you within minutes of pre order
4) Redeem code online
5) Cancel Pre order

You now have beta access without spending a cent.

Im willing to bet that is all there is. Why would you hide end game goodies when that is what people play an MMO for? what is the main hook that will keep us going?

its the dark zone.

I feel like the developer is trying to "wow" folks by keeping a lot of the game hush hush.

It's VERY akin to Destiny in this sense. The beta and alpha were very small slices of the game, and while Destiny itself launched with a lot of content, it still wasn't enough for some, and it did launch with some broken ass systems in place.

The Division has had Destiny to look at in its development to learn from their mistakes.(Hopefully)

We still really don't know much about end game, and other than knowing a hard mode exists for all story quests, we don't know how much it actually changes.

There's a lot of meat on this bone... but it seems the devs just want us to wait and see ourselves, because if it's all out there then it may not get as much love or praise.

That's my hope anyway. It would just seem quite odd to launch a game of this kind of scope without a bevvy of unshown content.

Ugh, if kill for some stealthy options like that.

Yeah he's in a VMC Test. Source: I know people in that test, its going to be tomorrow.

Because they made the right choice instead of having a barren wasteland with nothing but filler there or a open interactive environment.

Me too but it begs the question about whether it would trivialize some of the RPG mechanics like enemy health if we take enemies down that easily, or if they should worth way less than normal kills. If it were up to me it'd be an unlockable from the Base of Operations but I can see why they removed that.
