The Division - 15 minutes of new gameplay

Pre-order bonusses, basically. They're not restricted to a certain territory.

These ones?

Because when I try to redeem the code that was publicised, it says that they are not available in my region (UK)?

I believe that Agent Origins promo for those gear sets is Americas only (or maybe US only)

those outfits (or at least 3 of them) are pre-order bonuses for different parts of Europe so that may be why they did it this way

How come? Any particular thing that's putting you off?

I was hoping for something grittier, along the lines of what was revealed, all this tech is distracting. Why would I be excited for finding a backpack and gloves, I know it's an rpg of sorts but everything just looks "video gamey" instead of immersive.
Still pre-ordered and I'll let the beta inform my final judgement.
All the flashing glowing objectives, items, stuff onscreen is just plain distracting, it reminds me of Watchdogs and that's not a good thing.

A lot of the HUD can be toggled off so hopefully some of that would help you. Maybe the beta will put you at ease.

Huh, the enemies seem to at similar levels to the player, but their time to kill seemed really short. Even the purple bar guy didn't seem to take much damage before going down.

I assume it's because the player is playing solo and not with a group. I think the enemies scale accordingly.

I'm hoping that last video is from the same dude. I mean you can hear Russian VO. Knowing his 720p low setup is why I'm hoping it will look better. But based on the daily motion video and if that is maxed out I will be extremely disappointed, this is beyond the normal downgrade. Even Watch_Dogs wasn't this bad.

Most of the settings on his options menu are on low so guess it'll look better than that vid

You're gonna hate it. Everything you hate about he game is exactly what I like about it. I've been waiting for an RPG like this forever. Played the Alpha and I'm sooo hyped.

Is it just me or does it seem like, there isn't anyway to manually crouch? For those who've played the alpha/beta, could you manually crouch whenever you wanted?

Nope. But after a while you get used to get in cover all the time. Wich you dont see in alot of vids. Alot of people just run and gun.

as of now, I don't think so.

Nope only in cover mode

Seems like the levels are designed with so many places to get into cover that it doesn't really matter in the end.

Hmmm, not sure how I feel about this. Seems pretty limiting to not allow a player to have the option to manually crouch in a third person open world shooter.

Because there is so many cover that when you want to go crouch you are beter off with going in cover instead. :)

Speaking of ubiquitous cover, does the game allow for different methods of play? Or do firefights mostly play out from behind chest-high objects? By different I mean being able to charge in with a shotgun. Since there is no crouch I assume there also isn't any prone, but I guess I understand the decision to leave those out based on it being more RPG, less military shooter.

I doubt you'd be able to do much charging-with-a-shotgun solo, but if you play with a friend you can take advantage of flanking and aggro.

Yeah, I ask because a friend of mine already has grand visions of shotguns & explosive weaponry. I haven't seen much in the way of rocket launchers/grenade launchers, but I assume it's because they're going for a more grounded urban warfare approach. I'll roll tank since it's clear he wants to fill the DPS role.

There's a perk when you move cover to cover you get reduced damage for 30s or so.
Could be useful for a quick push w/shotty

would be nice if they sent a message out to inform us what their plan is considering amazon have already given codes to folks

The codes from amazon just place PC users in the same boat as console users - waiting for further instructions on downloading the client when the beta is closer. If you're on PS4 and you have the game pre-ordered you're just waiting for the beta client to be available for download.

I think I read pre-loading will be available 48 hours before the beta.

Does anyone know if it's possible to unequip one of the two primary weapons? Been looking up some videos today and I think I'd love to play the game with just an AR or SMG and a pistol, without an extra weapon being glued to the backpack.

One of the videos showed the character with just 1 primary weapon equipped and a pistol so should be possible

God this is HUD overload to the extreme. Looks extremely ugly in motion and completely takes over the screen. Based off of some of these vids, I don't understand how anyone could get immersed in this with THAT much info going on at once.

Other than that, I look forward to seeing it in action on PC. I dig the concept. But there HAS to be a better way of conveying information to the player than whatever the hell they are doing now.

Also, is it agreed that this is clearly Ubisoft's answer to Destiny?

No. It's been in production too long to be an "answer" to anything. Both Destiny and The Division were in dev for years. Both have engines built from the ground up. Both initially planned to launch early in this Gens life and were delayed. It's coincidence. Don't forget that Sony Santa Monica also reportedly had a very similar concept in production for years but they just couldn't make it work in addition to it being really similar to Destiny in theme, so they canned it.

Sometimes it happens that multiple Devs have similar ideas at thw same time.

HUDs and UI are actually some of the most-faked elements of early game footage released to the public. I've heard the E3's 2013 trailer all the UI was done in After Effects.

You heard wrong.

But yes huds in target/announcement videos are often faked because most of them gameplay systems aren't fully funtional yet. Especially and RPG inventory. Especially 3 years prior to release.

Eh, not saying that it was made/put in development immediately in response to Destiny. But it seems like some design choices have shifted to go into that direction in order to compete with it.

Not saying its a bad thing, but it seems obvious.
