The Division - 15 minutes of new gameplay

Even the PC menu video guy showed ultra settings and it looks comparable to these, which was done by a separate person entirely. Which leads me to believe this is just how it looks across the board.

I just don't understand why Ubisoft/Massive/Red Storm/Whoever don't just release some unaltered PC gameplay footage at this point, these speculations and leaks only lead to turning away potential consumers.

Where did he do that?

I only ever saw the video of him showing all settings on low and then going into the game.

This, I also don't understand. Isn't the embargo already lifted?
Just show PC footage on ULTRA to clear all speculation.

When they shot bullets through the sign it created light shafts so yes the original demo had GI, haven't seen anyone attempt that in recent footage.

Appears I was mistaken, what would be an example then in the original demo?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njfj6KwEAfg

I´m not sure if it is a good example or not, but @ 5:54 when the light on the ceiling breaks and it hits that orange surface on the corridor, it reflects that orange on the floor and other walls.

Dictator93 seems to know a lot more than I do in terms of graphics tech, so I guess he could say if that´s correct.

In general (Sorry if this should be in it's own thread)
Ubi just one year ago released ACU and FC4 which both look ahead of the curve even now.

Sad thing is that even there people can always pull the "but it's probably an old build that doesn't have all the bells and whistles enabled!" card
Considering it likely is an older build that "card" would be perfectly valid. Look at the post below mine for instance. And look at the comparison posted a while back that was supposed to be "proof" of a downgrade and Massive lying about their engine because the xb1 ALPHA didn't look as good despite the beta looking better and having more graphical features as well like better destruction and SSR instead of cube maps. As much as many would like to argue otherwise, the game still isn't finalized.

Yeah, that looks like a good showcasing of GI. That is also the area they use as well in the tech trailer to show it off.

I think people were saying they don't give a beta key if you pre-order the digital version? Someone correct me if I'm wrong - but that may be why you didn't get one.

EDIT: I'm right:

i ordered the retail version. both for pc and ps4. They didnt send me anything. just got a call with a strange number and didnt pick up. Googeled the number and it was amazon XD on a sunday... i dont want to talk to them and explain why i want a beta key XD just SEND IT TO MEEE^^

edit: ok they called again and i picked up. They told me they send it out on the 26th... and because i canceled my preorder i`m not able to get a key now... well i fu**ed up . I could have asked them for a key before i canceled XD stupid me. I wont pre order again because that would look very suspicious.

Really hoping they haven't stripped the GI from PC. Won't know for certain until release, or someone from massive clarifies it.

Going by your logic earlier on you have nothing to worry about, they haven't officially said they took it out and all this is just beta/alpha footage so there is no actual proof is gone and therefore nothing worth discussing.

You seem incredibly spiteful for some reason because that guy, (who still hasn't backed up his claims), was called out on his "I heard this" claim.

As I said before, I was called out too a few pages ago when I said that the PC screenshots Ubi released weren't representative of how the game actually looked.

Consider that they have access to Nvidia features and can also control camera placement unlike players. Nothing about those screens were out of the ordinary.

Wondering if the pre-order trick from Destiny would work for this beta?
Pre-order on Amazon, wait for beta code in mail and then cancel pre-order...

I give up.

Say that the screenshots are not representative and everyone will demand prove. Say that new footage with all those missing effects is representative and everyone will say it's just an alpha.

Have fun fueling the hype machine guys.

What effects were in those screenshots that weren't in the actual game footage we've seen? Where have we even seen 4k PC footage at maxed settings?

It says it uses probes for re-lighting, so it could still technically have that for all we know, but maybe they nerfed the update rate, granularity of their placement, etc.

If that happens, we know what to blame.

None, they are quite obviously real screenshots just with incredibly high IQ. If you say otherwise then you obviously have not seen real doctored screenshots before (ehem Far Cry series).

Exactly, in fact, we can see them walking into that area in the second screenshot briefly in this video on xb1. Doctored screens never actually resemble a situation where people are playing the game, (outside of cutscenes touched up heavily with PS). While all of those were gameplay poses.

You are having two seperate conversations.

I didn't say there is nothing to worry about, or that the game looks like the 2013 reveal. In fact. I said the exact opposite.

I just don't think people should go around acting as if they have inside knowledge, when in fact they don't. It's bad for the boards, and bad for this discussion.

If you have proof that something has been touched up in Photoshop, or that something was added in after effects, prove it. Otherwise, we go with what we see, and what we see is a vertical slice/target demo that was not reached. They showed all of the engine features in real time, multiple times, to press and public. Just because some of those may have not made it into the final game, does not mean it was "faked" or added in using some magical post processing. It just means things change in development, things are cut for performance, gameplay, bugs, conflicts/contraindications and a myriad of other reasons.

You don't see me going around saying I know for a fact the game will look amazing on release. You see me saying I hope.

Where as you, and several others, are acting as if you have inside knowledge to some larger conspiracy that the 2013 demo was some elaborate hoax, rather than as I said before a vertical slice of a work in progress 3 years away from completion.

Don't get wrapped up in things or try to make it personal. It's not.

Its funny. To me that vid still looks better then the leaked PC screens. And thats 900p Xbox One footage. So that second 4K PC screen from UBI doesnt seemed to be that unreal imo.

Its not like this haha.

I still have faith in the PC version because Massive made World in Conflict if you don't know that game go buy and play it one of the best RTS games of the last decade to me and did amazing job on PC.

How about we wait until the final release before drawing any conclusions about downgrades in graphics? It's not a stretch to believe that what we're seeing in the beta may be a of an older build of the game. If someone could link to a statement by Massive saying definitively that the beta represents the graphics quality of the final build then I would appreciate it.

He's quite mistaken in many parts of that video because he was using an xb1 old alpha build for comparison. Like when he says they replaced realtime reflections with cube maps, one of the first things we see in the beta proves that wrong. Or that destruction isn't procedural, again, he's wrong on that front.

The video is from last year. Like, september.
This should not be something to watch now anyway since we have proper footage now.

It's why it's never good to claim that beta or alphas represent the final build visually.

Okay but we all see that honestly one thing making a massive issue in the visuals is that it has low contrast, right? Literally any screenshot and footage is looking more like the old footage (and just less washed out) when the contrast is upped. It's like their dark areas and black levels are all washed out by default in everyone's recent videos

EDIT: drop saturation, up contrast and sharpness is how I will play tbh. I'm a graphics whore and I need it looking like visual candy

Keep forgetting that many of his vids are from last year. Hes good at breaking things down, was the first guy to figure out brooklyn wasnt gonna be in game at launch. Ubisoft even acknowledged him for it. Hes got a few great vids, hes not about making them look shady, just puts out some pretty good info.

At this point from what I've seen, no amount of turning up the texture resolution is gonna make the game look like that E3 footage, it just won't happen. I'm still gonna probably play it because it looks like a fun co-op game (like Destiny for PC since there is no Destiny for PC) but I am a bit sad that it doesn't look as great as they showed before, publishers really gotta stop showing footage so early in a games development and just announce games 1 year to 6 months at max ahead of its planned release.

I still think Brooklyn will be in the game. Your character will start there and end up in the chopper we see in the beginning of the beta.
The characters in beta start at level 4 (that's what it looks like from the videos anyway, I may be wrong about that), and the intro seems... lacking?

If that is the case, they should allow us to travel there at some point to do more missions or even access to Brooklyn DZ, maybe with one of the free updates. Personally I think is going to be part of the season pass.

Probably won't happen, as hat would require loading between Brooklyn and Manhattan. Massive is very adamant on the no loading thing.

I can see it as an intro, hen a cinimatic masking the initial load.

But that said, I've no idea. Maybe it will be, more playable area would always be cool.

Are they adamant about no loading? Because I thought we just got some statement from them about how the loading screens try to give you relevant tips to guide you to features you haven't used yet
