Well then that's A-okay.

Hopefully they'll be less waifu shit clogging up the discussions now too with so many of the heartbroken "fans" abandoning ship.
Isn't it weirder to be so invested in a product one hasn't played that they mistake a sound business decision for an infringement on their rights or a personal injustice?
Apparently that was a mistranslation
Kind of incredible really, something that FE8 twins are basically known for ended up being a mistranslation. Hah. Haha.
"Regarding FE8 and the neverending suspects of an incestuous relationship between Ephraim and Eirika. Are their respective holy weapons named Siegmund and Sieglinde even in the japanese game? Because I always felt those two names where an evident lampshade hanging. (It's a pretty well known reference to a famous incestuous couple of the Norse Mythology, see for example Wagner's Die Walküre) "
Yup. ジークムント and ジークリンデ, which might not look exactly like Siegmund and Sieglinde to the naive English speaker who can read katakana, but if you search them on Japanese Wikipedia you’ll find that that’s how Siegmund and Sieglinde are conventionally written in katakana.
I actually was not aware of that. Perhaps it slipped through or they just have a threshold for this stuff, or maybe it's just the current climate. Who knows.
Either way, I hope #FE gets an M rating so we don't have to worry about this kind of thing.
Now de-anime it completely and I'm in.
I'm an optimist and I look at the positive side of things?![]()
Won't somebody please think of the children? Is a better product now, think of the thousands of children that buy this games.

We're on GAF but the censorship discussion only does seem to pop-up when it is about waifus and little else. And it's always the super pandery stuff. There's a lot of gray names in the Linlee thread and how the more sexualized outfits are edited to cover more for her. Cries of censorship, saying Nintendo has no respect for their audience or for gamers and so on. Boycotting the game on some principal that they should have the option to sexualize a young girl and so on.
Thing is, I'm against censorship but you pick your battles which many don't seem to understand. Not only that, censorship is more nuanced than simple black and white, for or against which makes any discussion that much harder to even get across.
I did. The question was largely rhetorical. The point is almost everyone in this thread that's upset is framing their stance as some sort of issue of principle... And yet no one is outright saying "I actually really wanted this feature."1. You could read the thread, champ. :^)
2. I don't think its inclusion harms the game any more than any of the other dumb anime shit in the game. Now I get a game with less modes for full price, so I can't use the already optional feature even if I wanted to.
So what else have they removed other then the head patting mini game?
But it is valuable to the core series. Don't you understand? It'd be dumb if Mortal Kombat got censored in the same way it'd be dumb if Senran Kagura got censored. But Fire Emblem? Nothing valuable to the core series is being alerted by removing a rubbing minigame, and you still have your skimpy waifus that you can still confess to anyway.
My understanding is you can only see the models in the brief support conversations. In effect, this game's model viewer, pokedex, etc., has been removed. All of those amazing character models and animations are no longer easily accessible. :-(
"we have not included any features which are considered inappropriate in Japan"
Which doesn't mean a lot considering what's acceptable in Japan.
Corrin's battle panties?

Like yourself. You're saying you're upset there's one less mode and that the principle of the removal of choice is the issue, but phrase it as "if I wanted to".

Edit: You know what, I am not risking my account over this. I will just drop the user with a borderline avatar on the ignore list as usual.
Which is odd since they did get backlash for these very same things in Japan. I know the gay conversion thing at the very least.
A 1000-year-old manakete that looks like a little girl that was being guarded and transported by a Russian sellsword.
Her outfit and introduction is implied sex trafficking.

FE won't have face rubbing in NA. Being happy about the upsides of this decision seems pretty optimistic to meI don't know if being happy over something being removed (that can be ignored) that you find mildly annoying/stupid to the detriment of people that find it fun/funny/amusing/one of the few LGBT-friendly functions/etc. is optimistic. I'd call it kind of selfish and in a way, regressive.
Not really, considering the content was set up to be avoided if the player didn't like it. The original game offered an option, and the new one removes that option.
The only time this censorship discussion ever seems to come up at all. PERIOD. Is when waifu's are involved and it's annoying.
Name one instance in recent times where sexuality was not the topic of censorship.

And also, this is an english speaking board. Like, I think the japanese version of No More Heroes is downright butchered but changes like that don't affect nearly as many GAF members as changes to the US edition of a game would.
It's not, but it's really the only thing that is changed for the majority of the western market.
Go on German forums and look how they react to the removal of violence and swastikas.
And you'll get the same "pro-censorship" responses there as well, as it's very ingrained in German culture that gratuitous violence in videogames is bad for youth and society overall. It's changing but it was a huge topic of discussion years ago.
This situation is very similar to the removal of the Mercenaries mode in RE4 actually.

No weirder than investing yourself in the best interests of a corporation? It's all weird. But most disturbing to me is the zeal in which the community applauds censorship. I'd rather not support content I find distasteful than have it altered until I feel safe liking it. Nothing to do with investing myself in a product I frankly was never planning on buying, though I won't deny that you've accurately described some amount of people because I frankly don't have the time or interest to read two thousand posts to verify.Isn't it weirder to be so invested in a product one hasn't played that they mistake a sound business decision for an infringement on their rights or a personal injustice?

Isn't Nintendo or Square-Enix changing a job class in Bravely Second because it's based on racist stereotypes?
Looked like a cute / silly thing, probably good for some laughs, "daww", or awkward "oh god" moments. Now it's gone and I won't get to try it. Not a big deal that it's gone because it doesn't sound like it's a huge part of the game, but a shame nonetheless.
The one other thing I can think of in recent times was the Native American costume in Bravely Second. IIRC there was some "censorship" talk flying around there too.

While back, but they was a lot of grumbling with the PAL version of NMH being based on the censored Japanese version. Ironically the publishers used the fact it was based on the Japanese version as a defence for their decision, but we all know the US version with the blood was the original vision for the game.
NMH2 was uncensored so they clearly realised that no one believed them.

I mean, I'm not straight and I'd remove marriages entirely from the series. But I'm not speaking on anyone's behalf but my own, and there's no harm in expressing my approval of this change. I don't think the lack of this new minigame will be series ruining for anyone, or at least for most people. While also ignoring the downsides, like the actual gameplay functions this screws up, the disappointed LGBT people that now have nothing but two poorly-written bisexual relationships, the fact it's a TON of content cut in general (voice acting, dialogue, an absolutely baller 3D viewer, etc) with no replacement, character development removal (not a new phenomenon for FE localization as is the case with Henry in Awakening).
At a base level, there's nothing wrong with being happy about it, but try to have a bit of empathy for people that this actually did mean something to.
You want them to remove all animation from the game?
A game played entirely through sound!

No, this mode had super lewd dialogues. It's not "entirely on the user".It's a strange mechanic, no doubt, but I was curious to try it. Pokémon Amie was fun and it amuses me when people want it removed because of possible sexual reasons (which are entirely on the user). Anyway, I won't really miss it and removing it may actually help the perception of the game outside of Japan.
I dont know if they still do this but the PSP versions of monster hunter were censored to have less blood in the US versions
