Nintendo Q3 FY 2015 Earnings Release

Yeah it is strange. But more than R&D I am thinking about development cost.I would rather have them in the red now if that would mean more games ready for the NX launch.

That's the same thing. It's called Research & Development. Their devs teams used to literally be called R&D 1,2,4 etc. Yet people somehow still assumes that the R&D costs have nothing to do with games for some reason

You'd think with the massive success of Mario Kart they'd make more racing games instead of board-based party games every 6-18 months.

Still waiting for a Pokémon Dash sequel which runs like some of the PokéPark Pikachu's Adventure games.

Yeah it's more The Pokémon Company than Nintendo, but still

Nintendo 3DS Software (Q3 2015)

Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer - 910,000 / 2,930,000
Mario Kart 7 - 840,000 / 13,030,000
Pokémon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire - 770,000 / 11,460,000
New Super Mario Bros. 2 - 570,000 / 10,040,000
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS - 550,000 / 7,920,000
Animal Crossing: New Leaf - 420,000 / 9,440,000
Super Mario 3D Land - 420,000 / 10,630,000
Tomodachi Life - 410,000 / 4,890,000
Pokémon X / Y - 310,000 / 14,460,000
Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon - 140,000 / 4,750,000

3DS software keep selling well after all.

Evergreen titles are no surprise by now, though Mario Kart 7 selling close to a million in the last 3 months of the past year is surely a nice result. Tomodachi Life is perhaps the biggest surprise, considering that 3m units come from Western countries (and I suspect most of them from Europe). Also, Luigi's Mansion 2 close to 5m is also astonishing.

Mamamia that legs

And Luigi Mansion still sold another 140k? nlg must be ecstatic for sure.^~^ hope federation force will be able to perform at least half as well as this one too.(it wont sadly.)

SMM and Splatoon is also monster level here. Both sold 1 mil and considering how Ninty still promote both title not only frpm normal marketing means but also through many youtubers channel, i feel the legs is going to be as long as Waluigi legs lol.

-I'd be a little upset at Monolith because of Xenoblade sales if I was Nintendo. Had Monolith made a more accessible game (like the first one) to build off of that critical acclaim then they may have found a better audience. Instead they went over-ambitious and failed in their game design decisions in a lot of ways. Then due to the delay in getting the game to the rest of the world early impressions from Japan weren't great - and as someone who bought and beat it those impressions turned out to be spot-on. I can't help but think that that hurt them.

I thought Xenoblade Cross perform much better vs original Xenoblade here especially when it is facing all those problem from zero jrpg audience to very small hardware sold. While in Jp, it fail to outperform ori xeno, i thought in US and Euro it outperform Xenoblade?

And i think it is just example of Takahashi wanted to do something different here. Cross is totally different compared to Blade which both had their own pro and cons, where i will said, i like cross much more than blade here.^~^

Mario Kart does so well for them you have to wonder if they could push another Kart game per generation and get away with it. You wouldn't want to devalue the MK franchise, so maybe Mario Kart being the big dog - once per gen - and then maybe Diddy Kong Racing (or equivalent) as the other franchise?

You could distinguish Diddy Kong by making it 'open-world' (not in the modern sense, but in the sense that the original was) and having the hoverboats and planes, boss battles and challenges and a lot of the content MK doesn't have. In fact if you sold it based off of the boats and planes people might not even realise they're being sold a second kart game.

But maybe that's pushing it. I know that if I was Nintendo it would be tempting. Their market loooooves those kart games.

Mann. I can said i love ur plan here.^~^ DD racing to fill our thirst after playing MK for more than 200 hours here. I mean when Sonic racing all stars sold the best in Jp region, u Know Wii u owners love that sweet sweet quality kart games.^~^

Well obviously there is an big interest for Animal Crossing+ their amiibos and cards and still there isnt any AC for the Wii U.. Damn you Nintendo, drown in my tears!

Thanks, I should have known that.

Still, my point remain I hope the promises of more development teams are true(I think they said that they expanded). In my book most if the collaborations with other developers have not created many great games (except for platinum and Namco Bandai if we count smash) But hopefully the internal teams will deliver for the NX.

My God, that's such a huge drop off from Returns.

Single player games are no longer sells very well these days. So you cant expect more than 1-2 million (3-4 LTD if the platform released is bigger and popular) from those well reviewed games, but from multiplayer oriented games you can easily get more than 3-4 if it was reviewed well.

NX my friend. Imagine this time it combine New leaf and all HHD feature.... It will be TITS!!!

Not so sure about that, look at Fallout 4, witcher 3 etc.

I loved DK:TF but the reason it sold bad cannot only be explained by lack of online.

I'm glad that Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon sold this well. I'm also glad that Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival and Mario Tennis flopped, and that Zelda TFH marked another decline for the Zelda series.

Wish that some of their digital titles were more popular. boxboy, Fullblox, Hydroventure, and Steel Diver Sub Wars are all pretty great titles.

Mario Kart 8: 7.24 million
Splatoon: 4.06 million
Super Mario Maker 3.34m
Animal Crossing HHD 2.93m
Yoshi's Woolly World: 1.31m
The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes 1.08m

Holy crap.

This is the financial release, not the briefing. The briefing also doesn't exist to provide news.

Nintendo's first party attach rates are insane. Mario Kart 8 o.O

And I can't believe Animal Crossing HHD and Tri Force Heroes sold so much... I'm the biggest Zelda fan and can't bring myself to look at Tri Force Heroes twice, it's looks like such an incredibly lazy effort.

How did Triforce heroes mark a decline? And how why would you be glad? Thats backwards as hell the game is a spinoff and the new mainline zelda is coming this year that we all know is gonna do damage... You just hate Zelda or something? And dont give me no backwards answer either cause that legit dont make sense.

Looks like Metroid Prime: Federation Force for 3DS hasn't been canned, like so many had hoped and/or thought.

Those people were kidding themselves to begin with though. NLG does great work. They didn't deserve the blowback that game got. The petition to cancel the game was abhorrent behavior from fans.

AC and Zelda were nice surprises - surely successful spin-offs considering how cheap they were (in terms of development, they basically reused all assets from previous games). In particular, Zelda showed how 3DS has an audience for the IP willing to experiment different ideas - good word-of-mouth might help the game in the future. Also, it is worth noticing the lack of 3DS hesvy hitters in the last quarters, and this surely helped those games.

I'm actually surprised TFH sold (shipped) this well.
It's a spinoff, not a mainline game in the series.

Those Wii U release schedules are mega sad, though. They've got nothing coming out!

Well, we know Paper Mario is rumored. And Pikmin 4 will very possibly come, too, since Miyamoto-san announced it as nearing completion last August or so. As others have indicated the lack of upcoming releases or of dates after April may signal NX in some form (or in full)coming later this year

The decline in quality is obviously not what I am happy about. But when they just release a cheap cash-in, I am glad that sales are declining. A Link Between The Worlds sold 2.18 mio in its first 6 weeks. Wind Waker HD sold 1.15 mio in its first 3.5 months.

Looks like Skyward Sword and the DS games and now Tri Force Heroes did not only sour my fandom for the series.

Decline with respect to...? TriForce Heroes is a spin-off and the other Zelda game released in 2015 sold more than the previous mainline entry though being a remake. Also, TriForce Heroes might outsell the previous multiplayer Zelda game.

Come on, Skyward Sword was fantastic :/

Even as a spin-off, it's a step down in term of quality. Just look at Four Sword Adventures.

Skyward Sword and the DS-games are all great though. Triforce Heroes on the other hand is just trash unfortunately.
