I hope Luna's voice isn't shockingly terrible, disappointing everyone the first time they hear her haha. After seeing her for years now, it'll probably be a little strange to hear her speak for the first time.

Uhm, Jump Festa 2014?^^

Including the infamous "Being blasted into oblivion!?" line.
Can't forget the infamous pointing to the sky

This was a good trailer.

Just rewatched it and was kinda able to pick up on some things I didn't really notice/fully understand before. Like, Prompto saying, "so do we stay on the road?" The first time I saw that, I didn't really know that they had set out on the road for the marriage and then their city was invaded after they left. Not sure why I didn't put that together.

Yes, she hasn't spoke at all just like how Stella never spoke. I need to hear a voice. I like the character and her design but not knowing what she sounds like is honestly annoying at times. Kid Stella spoke in one trailer but not much. I'm honestly hoping they give her a strong voice, maybe make her sound British but not forced. Maybe a bit like Minfillia but without being useless. :p

We heard Stella in the E3 2013 trailer.

Tabata also addressed Ignis's voice acting as well. Or at least he talked about his usage of "highness" and how he heard the complaints, understands that it makes their relationship sound too professional, and will change it. I'd hope that he'd also change his whole voice direction so he doesn't sound like a butler.

We already see that change in the new footage. He calls him Noct

Eh, I don't agree. I thought Ignis was in the employ of the royal family?

I thought he was to. They really shouldn't be listening to every lil complaint its kind of bothering me.

Well the thing is, they want to make them seem like a tight nit group of bros, and Ignis always calling Noctis "highness" sort of goes against that vision. It comes off as distant. It's a smart complaint to listen to.

He's talking about the English voice acting. He always called him Noct in Japanese unless i'm remembering incorrectly.

He is but why would he talk like that around Noctis? I understand him talking like that to Regis.

It also felt a little over the top as well

No I believe you are right. I think sometimes he does call him highness or something but it was just so apparent in English and didn't feel natural at all

I also remember part of the complaint being is instances in the Japanese voice acting where Ignis would say Noct, in English he'd say "highness". So at that point it was literally a mistranslation and not being true to the original vision.

Whilst it's true the "My oh my Ouji-sama do be careful!!" trope is and can be overplayed at times, Ignis never sounded anywhere near that during the demo. Respectful and mindful of his station but he certainly wasn't a butler with a monocle and feather duster.

That's what i thought too he's a friend but he's still mindful of his job and status while not overdoing it. I dont think it ruins the bro thing at all. You've got gladios who bossed noct around no problem in the demo and you've got prompto being the idc who care friend and being all goofy its a nice mix.

True but calling him "highness" all the time makes him feel less like a friend and more like a servant.

I didn't play the demo and didn't get his full experience, so I don't know just how bad or not bad it was. I wouldn't think calling him highness here and there would ruin the bro thing unless it was overdone or not handled right, and I feel like it could be easily not handled right.

Anyway, I found Tabata's response to it. I think we can at least agree that localization unintentionally changing how a character was originally intended to come across is a bad thing.

Your point about Ignis in the English language version is a valid one. Using the intricacies of language to make the experience more fun for players is fine, but if the character’s personality changes across languages and becomes someone else, the original intent is lost.

We’ve put a lot of care into making the unique character that is Ignis, and to ensure the character is communicated as intended, I’ve seated the Localization Lead, Dan Inoue, right by me in the development area.

As to your point about Cidney/Cindy, a minor name change may not have created issues in past FF games, but it does for FF XV. I think it has to do with the fact we are targeting a simultaneous global launch.

Rest assured that we’re discussing these issues internally and working out the best way to improve things, so I hope you can look forward to what you’ll see in the final product.

and the original complaint

First, I just want to say I've been following the game for the past 9 years and am just as excited now as I was back then. However, after playing the demo in both Japanese and English, I have to admit I'm a bit concerned with the English translation of the game. This isn't about minor annoyances (such as "Cidney" and "Phantom Swords" being changed despite being perfectly suitable English words), this is more about the characterization.

The best, and most troubling, example is Ignis. In the Japanese version, Ignis treats Noctis like he is a childhood friend. He's always looking out for him, sure, but you can sense how close they are (he even calls him "Noct" without an honorific). They really do feel like 仲間.

However, in the English version, most of the time Ignis calls Noctis "Highness" and speaks with such an emotional distance that you would think Ignis was his butler. A good example of this is in Episode Duscae when you track down the Behemoth. In this English version, Ignis says, "... Highness. I'm loath to put you in harm's way, but ..." This is incredibly formal and feels so emotionally distant. In the Japanese version, Ignis uses "お前" when speaking to Noctis, which is about as far from "Highness" as you can get, not to mention a lack of anything close to the formality of "loath to put you in harm's way".

I'm really not trying to nitpick the translation, and if it was just the cosmetic name changes I would just shrug it off, but I think the job of any localization is to stay true to the spirit of what the original artists intended, so when a character changes, I think that warrants being looked at.

Luna's voice is actually similar to Noctis's batman voice from Duscae. Kind of a doku onna thing going on. Please be excited.

I think you're discounting context, subtext and tone of voice. It's fine.

I have to wonder that in the demo there was only so much atmospheric or banter dialogue so perhaps the repetitions were based on the unfinished nature of what we played.

As I said before, I didn't play the demo so I don't know. From what I've read, the majority of people with an opinion on this would disagree, and Tabata thinks it's worth looking at. So we'll see how things shape up.

This is perhaps the most accurate but it was all we had to experience at the time.

Weren't they already transitioning from Stella to Luna by that point?

Also, i guess there is a chance they keep the same VA for her?

Well Nomura kept calling her Stella in everything up until Tabata said she was cut. I think Nomura maybe had a hand in the creation of Luna to have her feel like Stella but that is just my speculation

I think it was that, and the fact that the dialogue is context based. So while there probably isn't much or any dialogue specific to the Duscae region, there probably are pools of dialogue that could relate to different contexts(ie. wide open wilderness, cave, snowy mountain, specific city/town, wasteland,etc.etc.)

Because the only places we could explore were a wide open wilderness and a cave, we could only dip into those two contexts which clearly had very limited pools of dialogue due to it being just a demo.

I feel like the only time it will actually get properly repetitive is when doing a lot of exploration on foot as you typically will stay in one type of area for longer than normal.

Do we know the english voice actors for the main cast yet?

I found out who Prompto's VA is by accident a while ago. They've never officially revealed any names, though.

Watching a Tales of Zestiria LP, right now, and I swear the main character's VA must be Prompto's in FFXV. I almost thought a video of Episode Duscae was playing in the background, lol. The goofy way he says some of the lines is 100% Prompto.

It's Robbie Daymond who also voiced Kurasame in Type-0 HD.

Actually I was suprised how much unique banter there was when I saw these videos:

I always laughed when the dialogue after using the summon wasn't them in awe but like oh yeah let's get our car back!! And it didn't even phase them what they saw

Prompto-"I know now why the stories are told"

So, these are the controls we know:

Directional Buttons - Weapon select

X - Jump
Square - Guard
Circle - Attack
Triangle - Warp

L1 - Orange bar from the footage (no idea what it could be)
L1+R1 - Armiger

And these are what i guess will be for the rest:

L2 + Direction Buttons / Face Buttons - Abilities (one for each equipped weapon)
R2 - Side-weapon (ex: hold to raise the shield/ aim with gun and then shoot with Attack)
R1 - Party Skills (the ones shown in the trailer)

Then there is the Battle Menu with Touchpad from which we'll be able to:
-Change equipped weapons
-Use items
-Choose one Summon to invoke (Old FFs-like, not like ED)
-Party AI (whatever we get, Gambit pls)
-Analyze enemies
