GameSpot: FE Fates will have face rubbing under certain conditions in the West

His dad looks down and sees him playing the game, "Is that the one with the waifus? You have dishonored my family and are now disowned! LEAVE!"

Decent compromise. Makes more sense to rub on your SO than random soldiers in your army. I'm sure both sides will end up getting pissed off, but I'm fine with this.

Still find it kinda creepy, but I appreciate it being toned down a little.

I was pretty much "whatever" on the feature, resulting in no comment in the original thread about the feature being excluded. This works though, makes sense and I certainly don't mind that you can get intimate with your FE main squeeze and not characters who would not--and should not be expected to--put up with such nonsense. That was the most offputting part of it.

Add: will see whatever is really going on with game when (if?) I get my CE from Best Buy

The communication about this feature has been a complete mess and whoever said it first that the mini-game was out needs to do better in the future.

But I do find hilarious the people who are all "pre-order cancelled" though so at least I'm getting a kii or two out of the whole situation =P

Can someone explain how this interacts with the gameplay? Like, what benefit does it have?

I don't want to be taking breaks from the things I want to do be doing to rub faces.

A very very small support boost (which, if you're already married, is moot, since that means support is maxed) and some accessories, which are also silly bonus things.

That's good to know.

Their description of Revelations sounds really good. I've always liked the rogue paths that cause your teammates to leave, etc. I really liked it in the Der Langrisser in particular. However, they are seeing that you need to own both your physical cartridge AND the other path as DLC in order to buy Revelations. That isn't true, right? I can do Conquest and then Revelations?

You don't need to buy both paths to get revelations. The thing is that revelations will be out a few weeks after the initial game release so there will be a wait.

As a FE fan since before Awakening and someone looking forward to this quirky feature for what it is (a quirky feature), and as fun as it is to watch people squirm in unease/rage/whatever about the petting, in context of the game there is truth to the comments that it doesn't make a lot of sense to be petting everyone in your army willy-nilly, so if it's just narrowed down to just whoever you waifu/husbando, I'm really fine with that.

I guess I won't be immediately flipping my LE preorder now. Probably.
I might if I could really get $200 for it like someone mentioned.

Not unbuckling my seat belt yet, though. After all this I'm not convinced this ride is over yet.

I'll take certain conditions versus not at all.

Not like it mattered anyway.

But hearing folks canceled their pre-orders and now people are canceling their pre-orders.

Strange place this world is.

Oh man the "Pre-order cancelled" crowd is going to be pissed.

A friend of mine is already crying that he cancelled his Limited Edition.
I really don't understand why anyone would cancel a seemingly actual Limited Edition of a game for this reason. Being disappointed is one thing but since the feature means nothing in the grand scheme of things, why would you go this far and outright cancel something you know full well you won't get a chance to get back?

I won't use the feature at all and still think it's silly but I know some are going to be happy so at least there's that.

I had that kneejerk reaction to cancel my order just because I can't abide by removing an entire game mode, but I saw what copies were selling for on the second hand market.
money > my feelings about their localization choices, apparently.

Nice to hear it's still in, and it makes much more sense that you would be softly rubbing the cheek of your betrothed only.

What's hilarious is that by all accounts the waifus are what saved the FE franchise, it was on the verge of being shelved for good if Awakening had not sold well.

You should be thankful for the waifus because you wouldn't have any more FE games to play otherwise.

This isn't true. This was never going to happen.

Yeah, I saw people mentioning that yesterday. That's still fine with me. Worst case scenario they had cut all touch screen character interactions since the articles made it seem like 100% touch was out.

So Game Xplain put a video up of the mini game, and there's no petting involved only the mechanic to wake up your spouse.

Looking like it's still censored after all.

This was known the same day. It's the remnants of petting, though I guess you could tap the screen repeatedly instead. Some people were saying the face rubbing was gone entirely. The minigame people are thinking of is still gone but the concept technically exists when waking up your spouse.

Felicia's voice acting isn't that great which is a bit unfortunate, that video made it pretty apparent.

So now people are saying swimsuits were removed as well, based on this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6OBwp8uBVY&t=30m42s

Apparently the shop was rank 3 which should unlock the swimsuits, but the only thing available is a bath towel.

Can anyone familiar with the Japanese version confirm?

Swimsuits are part of the accessory shop and you can get one at Level 1, 2, and 3. Bath towel is available at Level 1.

You need different materials for each accessory.

Edit: I did the import OT and I'm doing the western OT and I haven't really been following the issue with the Western release. That's just info I know from playing the original JP release, I haven't seen the video you linked or whether or not the swimsuits are in the Western release.

I'd rather not have to rub any faces, or even have the option to. Who wants this in a game? How is this game mechanic fun or satisfying? Its just strange, to me. A weird nonsensical mechanic that has no actual parallel in the real world and doesn't provide apply properly to the strategy rpg genre

I honestly don't think this counts as censorship, because nintendo would be choosing to do it themselves. There is very little reason to get even slightly morally outraged over the concept of losing this mechanic.

Such new and enlightening insights that were never expressed or covered in any of the well over 100 pages regarding this topic by now.

Great. So I now I have to rub the screen with one hand and crank off with the other at the same time. Extremely annoying. Worst localization evar.

The chances of that were really slim, people always exaggerate the position the series was in. Even without the pandering and more focus on the cardboard anime cliche characters, a new, non-remake FE game with more appealing visuals than FE11/FE12 would have been almost guaranteed to sell over 250k. It might not have been the success Awakening was, but things weren't that dire.

The series problem was that Shadow Dragon was not very well received. Then another remake, Heroes of Light and Shadow, came across as more of the same and failed to make a splash despite having a lot of improvements (and didn't get localized, probably due to the reception of Shadow Dragon).

I always read that as 250k in Japan alone, especially considering that the most recent remake never left Japan and the wait for Western releases was a ways away.

{2010.07.12 - 2011.12.25} [NDS] Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem - Hero of Light and Shadow <SLG> (Nintendo) {2010.07.15} (¥4,800) - 147,045 / 250,592

In 76 weeks of tracking it did dead on 250k as a remake of the third game, one of the most popular in the franchise and on the DS which was a monster in Japan. Let's not pretend Fire Emblem has ever had remarkable visuals except maybe some pixel art animations in the GBA games. After all, it skipped the N64 for an Super Famicom game released in 1999 (2000 at retailers), fans didn't care.

There was definitely a situation. I don't think 250k in Japan was guaranteed, and I doubt Nintendo meant after a year and a half either.

It was still a direct sequel to a poorly received game that did little to differentiate itself unless you looked into the mechanics. And the visual style is remarkable in that it's widely considered to be terrible, in contrast to the mediocre to solid art in other games. Moving away from that visual style would have signified that the new game wasn't "more Shadow Dragon."

Most people even agree that casual mode is a major factor that drew people into the series, more so than the waifu shenanigans. That wasn't even introduced in Awakening, it was from FE12.
