Microsoft Releasing Exclusive Games on PC Is Great for Xbox Owners

IMO no, this is great for PC owners. Xbox owners get very little from it [eventually a free copy of PC game if MS is good enough to promote their win10 store].

A game sells more copies and increases the chances of it being a success the more platforms it releases on.

Fuck, if they had done this with Alan Wake then we might be playing it's sequel in April rather than QB.

This has been a fun day to watch this forum twist and turn one way then another :)

lol ITT I learned that xbox and Microsoft were two different armies.

lol I know what you mean

????????????????????

Uhhh, as an owner of all 4 home consoles, I can already tell that Microsoft has completely given up on the Xbone. It's disappointing and I'm absolutely ashamed to have bought this dust collector day 1. What's the point of even owning a console now that all the game have moved to PC!?! Why even buy console when can just build PC?!?

Tears are coming down my face and all over my keyboard writing this. All Microsoft caresa abut is money and not about please their loyal fanbase that has stuck with them since the OG Xbox. If there going to treat us like this I wont stand it!

Tommorow I'm going to go throw my Xbone in the trash and go to CIrcuit City to buy a new 980ti. Just remember that M$ did this to me! Goodbye fellow Xbots, it's been fun, but it's time to move on.

This is beautiful.

The only real loss to an XB1 owner is petty forum list wars because now Xbox actually has no exclusive games. The list wars are over. Its done.

In this case, people can still get behind Xbox because Xbox games are Windows only. Sony's expanding their gaming catalog via PS Now to more hardware (using your logic people should be pissed at Sony since people bought PS3's for those games). NX is rumored to be developing two devices that share games/experiences.

Times are changing and people will just have to change with it. They'll adjust their perspective from the antiquated ideas of closed hardware to game services and digital licenses.

Some people will get left behind and that is their choice. The rest of us will move forward and continue enjoying games.
I do agree that times are changing. It's unfortunate that some people take such a dismissive stance to their fellow gamers who get burned in the process. "Some people will get left behind" and all that.

I suppose that's par for the course when it comes to the XBox One. Since the start, tremendous effort has been spent on trying to spin each new change and each new shortfall as something that doesn't matter, something that doesn't affect me, something that is the future so therefore get with it or get out. Kinda sad.

I agree with them in the same way that I think releasing Xbox exclusive games on the PS4 is good for Xbox owners.

Microsoft releasing games on both the PC and Xbox is nothing new. Microsoft has been releasing games on computers since the 1980's. I've been a happy PC and Xbox gamer since the OG Xbox days. The convergence of the XB and PC platforms really began back in the X360 days and many Microsoft games on the OG Xbox had PC ports. More choices for gamers....good times! Microsoft has developed and published some great games over the years.

their is no dire situation though last i heard the xbox one was selling better than the 360 was just not as well as the ps4. So instead of buckling down and focusing on the xbox one it now looks like they have given up. I'm not saying that they have it just looks like that at a glance. Either way this E3 is gonna be extremely interesting to see the direction that Microsoft goes with the xbox one.

With every sale of PS4, Microsoft potentially loses a gamer, not a lot of people will own or care to own both, so if the PS4 is selling like hot cakes, and it does, they are in trouble.
You don't have to be a wizard to see the XBONE is getting outnumbered and outperformed, they are losing this war.

What's the best solution? do the one thing Sony won't and can't do, introduce XBOX as the gaming component of a new perpetual OS that isn't going away any time soon, use the PC fanbase for profit, get more money to invest more into gaming and get the edge on Sony, all in one stroke.

I don't want to jump the gun, but this is the best move for XBOX as a whole, there are reasons why they considered to sell the division a few times.

If the game is 3rd person I buy for consoles, if it's 1st person I buy for pc. The only thing I hate it's the windows 10 exclusivity - which is a big no no for me (I really really hate win10).

Why did I buy a Xbox One again? As a Day 1 owner I feel like I've made the most stupid purchase ever.

::Checks top selling console games list; sees a bunch of multiplats that are available on PC::

Man -- us console gamers are pretty stupid. Herp derp.

MS owns Xbox
MS owns Windows

MS makes money from Xbox game purchases
MS makes money from Windows 10 store game purchases

MS knows there are console only gamers
MS knows there are PC only gamers
MS knows there is an overlap of console and PC gamers

MS wants to maximize money
MS releases software on platforms to maximize money (Office on iOS and Android)

Neogaf users who think this is bad are dumb. Plain and simple.

Jup. Its very logical really. And doesnt come as a suprise really ever since MS started talking about W10 and gaming.

is this actually true?

is Xbox One + gaming rig pc install base bigger than PS4 install base?

GAF isn't a hivemind

Actually, I think it may be smaller. If PS4 is at 40 mil. Steam is as 10mil (http://store.steampowered.com/stats/) and 33% of Steam users are on W10 (so 3.3mil) and Xbox is at 20 mil, you are right.

Granted that's for now as W10 has a 200 mil install base (albeit most aren't gamers). But MS putting games on the W10 store means that they are a bigger opportunity to sell those games than PS4 (which I highly doubt will reach 200 million).

So yes, gamers...sure, PS4 in the lead. Overall though, no and MS doesn't have to convert all of them into gamers.

Am I the only one who think's that if they succeed, with these releases, that xbox on windows 10 will be their steam platform?

Only everything you play can be pulled over to the PC version:game saves, recordings, achievements.

I think that's pretty awesome actually.

But in another instance it also could backfire.

Doesn't really effect current Xbox One owners in any bad way. It just makes it harder for people who own other platforms/gaming PC to justify buying an Xbox One.

your logic makes sense it just really depends on how many of that 200mil is an PC that is actually capable of playing and enjoying these games

There's no reasoning with them. We all have people like that in our lives and typically you just have to let them deal with things in their own way and eventually they come around. It's very rare that people don't adapt.

You think Sony is going to stop expanding PS Now and the devices it's available on? You think Nintendo dabbling in mobile development isn't a sign of things to come?

I'm very much looking forward to console warriors going extinct, so we can actually focus on talking about the games. Good riddance to them all.

The people who buy consoles simply for exclusives are in the minority. Your thoughts and opinions on these matters are irrelevant to companies like Microsoft. You have shown them that multiplatform games are more interesting to you. The majority of the best selling games are multiplatform titles.

So now those Twitter morons are mad because MS did not share their plans years in advance( even though they probably didn't exist then) ?

Maybe they made the decision recently? Maybe they saw people asking for it and gave them something good?

And the excuses are that if they knew they would have never bought the X1? For real? MS did even know when they launched it. Even then not all games are coming out and even then the x1 is a worth while experience. Fucking fake ass gamers.

The problem I honestly have is that there's still SOME stuff that's exclusive to the X1 and probably always will be, but there just isn't a lot. Like, looking at Halo last-gen, Halo 5 might never get ported. Which isn't really enough to make me want the console, but it's too late because I already have it. That leaves me in this weird situation where I feel like there aren't enough exclusives to justify this box that I bought, but there are also still games on it that I want to play which makes me not want to sell it.

If literally everything gets ported to PC (including Rock Band 4 with DLC compatibility), then I'll be totally fine with this.

I disagree, if anything this move could potentially bring them back from the dire situation they got themselves into.
Most people won't buy another console for any of XBONE's exclusives, by releasing them on PC they are creating a new frontier against Sony, capitalizing on added sales from people who don't own an XBONE, and use an extremely large user base with a lot of potential.

Don't forget who makes Windows after all, money coming from XBOX or XBONE doesn't matter, as long as it's coming.

If anything this move could potentially give them some breathing room.

But Sony's competition is not against Windows or PC. They compete against the console space, in this case against Xbone (and NX very soon). When Microsoft starts releasing on PC as well, Xbone sales will dive if/when people realise that you can get a better PC with the same cost.

If you're an Xbox player this move is not good. If you're a PC player this is great news as you don't need to buy a console for those few exclusives you might want to play. If you're a PS player, well, you continue to be a PS player as Sony can't compete in the PC space.

You don't call selling 30-40 million less consoles than last gen dire?

Obviously that's true but the longer the Xbox One stays in the market, the more powerful PCs will become and less of a problem that will be. You also have to keep in mind (which I know other people aren't thinking of) is that MS is also opening up the Xbox One to 3rd parties this year (a la iPhone, Xbox Indies) so that will also be cross platform. Smaller games (that may or may not be published by Xbox) will go to that store as well. The AAAs are there to get people to buy into the store and show to devs that it's a viable platform to support.

This move is bigger than just gaming...gaming is just a major part on why people use app stores. When you have more people in your store...the better it is for devs to support it...especially if people are buying stuff.

Phil said it pretty well:

XPpcpjo.png

I'm really hoping they go all the way with the idea that it's about the experience, opening up the next Xbox and making it a true Windows 10 gaming rig that can play things like Steam as well.

They won't, particularly since they would lose sales to all the other store fronts available. Instead, they are more likely to follow what is happening now, locking down a Win10 variant into a closed system for Microsoft's Windows/Xbox Store to be the only route to content.

This is really silly.

Again, exclusives aren't pushing the sales of these current gen consoles very much. Last year showed this pretty clearly. People are buying consoles to play third party multiplats -- many of which are available on PC.

If someone is an Xbox gamer, then this move IS good as it causes Quantum Break to have a better shot at a sequel due to more sales. Please tell me how is that a bad thing for Xbox gamers who will enjoy Quantum Break?

I just simply cannot understand why anyone would give a shit if a game is playable on more plattforms than your own box.

It got no effect on you, absolutely nothing. You will still get to play the super precious game of yours.

According to Steam, People who own 960, 970, 980 are 7% of 1.25 billion = translate to about 8.7 million people have decent 'gaming pc'.

It's actually smaller than, say, 40 million PS4 user base but still, not something to scope at.

"Microsoft don't care about pc gamers"

*exclusives get sent to pc*

"Getting desperate ms? LOL now I have no reason to buy an Xbox!"

Or

"What the fuck is this shit? Oh I'm so gonna sell my xbox one!"

Next gen is probably going to be more of a one ecosystem. With the Xbox as a standard low end pc with easy UI etc like you have now.
Then you have the normal PC''s and then you have tablets, phones etc.

Then they make them all crossbuy to.

for sure, it's not a small number. don't get me wrong, I wasn't trying to discount the install base, I was just legitimately interested in the size of xbox one + gaming pc install base compared to PS4

Whether it's the mindless drones crying to Phil on Twitter or those crying in this thread, they want to feel special. They NEED some sort of bragging rights for their slow brain console war. List wars, exclusives, and other endless amount of bullshit. These people rarely step outside. They can't smell the roses. They don't know what it's like to touch a woman, and they probably stink.
