Street Fighter V Roster Discussion |Thread 2| Deal with it & place your hope for DLC

Has the number of new players increased dramatically since then? Does it successfully teach people more than looking at a 10 minute Youtube video to get the fundamentals down does?
Dota always increases in player count so it's not really possible to say whether or not the tutorial helped with that. It does a pretty good job of teaching brand new players the basics of the game though. In contrast to that, I don't think any in game tutorial can do a better job of teaching people a game than a youtube video can. There's a pretty big difference between having an actual person narrate and walk someone through things than following in game directions. Hell there's even a few games now that have videos built directly into the game with the devs explaining things themselves (take the division for example).

This was gonna be my first fighting game in many many years, to the point where I need retraining entirely. Same for a bunch of my friends who were just buying it to play together. Having not really looked into it, I'm really surprised to see the sheer lack of introductory content at launch. Big disappointment, don't know if I'm still in.

I'm probably still in and will just treat it as a challenge to try and remember the gist of it.

Actually, Ono mainly was impressed with MKX's story and stated that he wished that he could do the same with SF. It didn't mean that "oh, we're gonna make SF behave like MK from now on." To be quite honest, making a more coherent SF narrative compared to previous efforts isn't really hard to do.

And yeah, spectator mode not being there at launch is pretty foolish. It'll be even more foolish if they never have it.

All I know is the game at March is 100% different than the game we are getting in a few days.

If I had 60 bucks to drop on the game I'd get then vs next month, I'd save for the game in March. That's speaking from the mindset of a casual, or less hardcore SF fan.

I mean I did not buy Rainbow Six Siege due to bad beta impressions, and the bad launch impressions here. Yet the game finally dropped to $40.00 a few weeks ago, and I took the jump just a bit ago when all my friends were saying it was hot fire, and so was GAF on a thread that came up here.

What I learned? Best FPS I've played since COD4 MW by a long country mile. Kicking myself I didn't have it sooner though? No, because the game at its inception isn't as solid as it is now. The ton of bug fixes, better matchmaking, the great content delivery system, spectating, etc. Big game changers.

This could happen to any genre or franchise. It sucks it's happening to SF since I love it so much, and it makes me want to shake Capcom/Sony that they are sending the game out to go fail when it doesn't have to. When I say fail I don't mean like "it'll sell 2 units and score 2/10 on metacritic" but I mean the level of success it could achieve with story mode and spectator lobbies from next month is much more than the success it'll have come Tuesday.

I only hope reviews touch on this towards the end in video/written reviews. "The game will get these features come March. So if you are on the fence, wait until then, and scoop it up." Not a total dismissal.

What went wrong with MvC3, for those who don't know? (me)

Always see it mentioned in a negative way.
The actual game was really fun, but a lot of people were upset that it had barebones single player elements (compared to MvC2 no less) considering the trailers and "Fate of Two Worlds" tag line sort of hinted at some kind of important story.

Well, and Mega Man wasn't playable. Neither was Venom.

And netplay was laggy as shit (especially vanilla version, was like playing underwater).

Always see it mentioned in a negative way.

MvC3 launch, like mentioned above, lacked content, had a bunk ass laggy online, and NO spectator mode.

UMvC3 fixed that quite well...but those of us who bought MvC3 at launch felt robbed. A) Because of the lack of those features, and B) Because UMvC3 got released or was it just announced, before MvC3 was even out for a full year. Essentially had to pay $100.00 for the game it should've been at launch...

MvC3 promised a full story mode. It got cut, and no one at Capcom said anything. The netcode was some of the worst in the generation. I believe there were supply issues. Lots of drive by posts about canceling preorders.

If you want to talk about barebones single-player modes, can we bring up KOF XII? Because I bought that on PS3 and I was bored in about a half hour.

You picked literally the worst KoF game. The game just isn't good, let alone playing it by youself. Maybe if you're drunk and really hate yourself and your friends.

KoFXIII isn't much better mind for single players I guess. But that trials mode, probably the hardest of all fighting games I've played.

This reminds me of MvC3 launch.

except with no promise of improvement let alone within a month for free. And shitty netcode. The lack of spectator lobbies really bummed me out on MVC3 which is why I was so worried SF5 would be missing them.

Still had tons of fun with MVC3 but I think if all it shipped with was training mode and the ability to fight a couple of my friends online I would have gotten the same out of that game as I did.

-"Speed of light" netcode
-No spectator mode until nine months later on a new disc
-Balance updates and new characters left mostly for a new disc nine months later
-x-factor made some vanilla characters stupid broken
-Phoenix was OP
-Tron Bonne and Haggar invul assists were too good
-Game became too offense oriented. Became known as THE one touch kill fighter

The vanilla version got shafted hard and a lot of people were not happy about needing to pay for a new game.

Watching someone on PlayStation Live trying to beat Survival on Hell...always gets to round 10 and Birdie beats him. Seen it happen twice now. lol

They'll probably do that.

Seems people are ripping into Ono for his "Sakura will forever be high school girl" comments. I've seen far more negatives than positive, I haven't even seen 1 positive comment.

Not surprising, I love Sakura but hey it's been time. She needs to get a real uniform.

Not to mention the Capcom store "99% guaranteed release date delivery", and litterally no one that ordered from the store got their's on release date. Most people didn't even know if their copies had even been shipped and couldn't find out. (I was one of them.)

The Amazon thing is comparable to that too. Needless to say this launch still seems to be going much more smoothly (or at least better communicated) than MvC3.

Terrible online features and extremely barebones single player

In terms of support, the Marvel license expired. Not sure about the hate surrounding UMvC3 as a game, though. Probably the barebones feature set.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the responses. Sounds like a mess.

I hope all review are generous here and either re-review the title as content is added or take into consideration what is being added to you for the initial price even if it is updated at a later time. Hopefully mainstream sites give solid scores as well and the next gen of SF starts off right. I'm pretty hyped.

Damn that's very generous. I'd like it if SFV got more similar reviews but I'm not holding my breath. I really want this game (and franchise) to be supported for many years and I'd rather have some reviews that were rather generous then lose out on future characters/games.

Oh my god I forgot about this. I hated myself for ordering from Capcom, my scrubby friend who couldn't play had it days before me ughhhh

I hope they get torn one for releasing a barebones, unoptimized game. People reporting stage lag across the board... 8 more years of training stage.

if they are reviewing the game with a low score because of lack of content when they know more is coming for free, then I'd say that is not deserved unless they are updating their scores.

Not to go OT but no way man. RainbowGAF was praising the game to high heaven at launch and has been ever since, not to mention having to constantly correct people because of the misinformation that got spread it from reviews and outlets that had no idea what they were talking about.

On top of it all Rainbow Six: Siege as it stands now is more broken than it was at launch because of the latest patch thats fucked up headshot hit detections, graphical glitches and animation glitches like Black Jesus pose, map bug and exploitations and more. Myself and the group of friends that have been playing this since launch have called it quits until a new patch is put to fix everything they fucked up. The servers and matchmaking were more solid and flawless at launch too from my experience. lol

Damn, my PSN is still messed up, just got the email saying my pre-order was cancelled because lack of funds and I don't know why.

Tried to put the AU$100 on my account manually, got $80 in before it started rejecting my card, checked the balance at an ATM afterwards, the $80 was removed, still several hundred $ in the account. I don't think I had any sort of limitations to spending, same account I bought my stick with and that was $240..Looks like I'm just going to have to go out and buy a $20 PSN card from EBgames or something.

Is that your experience though? The game isn't out yet, servers aren't up and keep getting reset. You want a game to be given horrible reviews because of tech issues? I guess Firewatch should have been a 5/10 instead of early GOTY candidate. Kinda harsh man.

I do hope they fix the performance issues for launch. They have a little bit of time left :P I mean it's not like there's really enough going on to justify frame drops on PS4, considering the shadow quality + 30fps NPCs.

Wtf is with these posts???

I have been playing the game for a few days now. There is a tutorial, short but cool story mode for each character, very cool Survivor mode, AND casual online matches.

If you are new, or need retraining, there is plenty of single player or non cutthroat modes.

Serious, wtf is everyone talking about? Have you watched ppl playing these modes? Im flabbergasted.

MvC3's entire presentation is the whole reason why I dropped the game pretty early and even after that they never tried to fix what was completely wrong in UMvC3. It's like they kept on with the same ol stuff.

People are questioning if the game is worth $60. MKX is a great example. Would you say that game is worth 60 or more than 60.

That's the big thing here.

Capcom will support this game. They kinda have no choice actually lol. Its super important to them and one can see with the support behind it. There were extensive beta tests, it appeared at damn near every Sony PC. It has multiple commercials. Its releasing as the big man on campus in February (AFIK). They have a whole release plan.

Its not going to die after a shaky start if there is one. Relax

Thats in the eye of the beholder i guess

Just online multi with nothing else would be worth 60 to me, the game is dope and the only way to get better is to play others anyway.

All the other stuff is just bonus.

To ME.

its because other games in the genre have raised the bar I guess. I dunno, for me, once they laid out the road map and showed me what was coming that is part of the initial $60, I'm cool with what announced in the base game. Learning the characters, survival mode, and getting to rank 5 with everyone will occupy me for months as it is, let alone the update in March. People want different stuff out of fighters today though...

Those bugs on R6 right now are fixed on PC version. The fix for consoles is Tuesday. All PC folk are saying the game is tip top now. The bug fix list was massive too.

I truly recall GAF posts on here not being happy with R6 at launch, and I had issues in the beta that turned me away.

The point I was trying to make is that R6 now (using PC version as the model to compare) is in a better state now than say the version I experienced in beta, and read about at launch. Again, that's my opinion though.

Back to SF5---That review is solid. Here's hoping more come with the same mind set.

It's all cool man. I was just throwing out my 2 cents. Sometimes waiting isn't always the best option and vice versa.

I went to fully pay off my CE at GameStop today and the clerk looked to the other associate and was like "Ok..uh..wait..does he get it now or...?" to which the other clerk or supervisor was like "Yea...no wait tomorrow...crap no Tuesday I'm sorry". I was like "I mean you guys could give me the CE now..I ain't gonna tell anybody...!"

...sadly a no go. lol At least GameStop have their copies in now though.

man, that sucks knowing your precious copy is just sitting there lol...thankfully I have Gravity rush to platinum tomorrow to keep me occupied unriil midnight.

Also, why didn't they bring back character round poses like the fist bump and the bloody picture for the lose avatar. Would have been nice fan service.
