SotC is best played with a child who has a sense of wonder. It seeps off onto you.

You really do lose a lot of that imaginative spark as an adult. I imagine (ha, pun intended) that it's a natural evolution of our brains because we'd never get anything done if we were so enthralled by things all the time. Or maybe our society kills our childlike enthusiasm. I dunno. Regardless SotC's atmosphere is hard not to enjoy, so I'd recommend it.

I got stuck on the 5th or 6th boss in SoTC , the one that took place on the water but I loved the first 5 bosses , huge huge and felt like taking on a titan

I'll finish it someday

I like climbing up big stuff and having to watch your stamina, though I agree with the controls being mediocre. I don't care about the empty world nor the player character's soul being corrupted nor his love being saved nor the nature of the Collossi. The art design is pretty good and the camera is great.

3/10. Watch on YouTube.

You're horrible. Guys, Lilith's horrible.

BUT I could pick up the PS3 Ico/SOTC collection if it gets enough recommendations. :p
It has a beautiful soundtrack.

I really like it. I don't find the controls terrible or anything. It's as difficult as it should be, in my opinion. The plot is very simple and so are the characters, but the game is really good at evoking this feeling of loneliness and dread and committing sacrilege. But still fun to play.

I can't say that Team Ico ever made a game I enjoyed playing. That new game with the ugly cat-griffon is gonna be such a shitshow~
go and play it.
Edit: now.

I love games like SOTC or the first Zelda. a big world, nothing much else and you roaming around. hits just the right spot.
Sounds truly boring.

No, she's right. I only ever got excited for the game when the Game Grumps were playing it.

Context plays into it for me. At the time I'd truly never seen anything remotely like it. The impact of that is hard to overstate. There still really hasn't been much like it.

The horse, goddammit. The horse.

Neyer hath my jimmy's be thusly rustled.
I have no idea how to do Old English btw. Also that actually was the most emotional moment for me in the game. After all that, that happens? Kind wish you had the Fable 2 ending, where you have three options, but only one brings your dog back. FUCK YOU, BALTIMORE (or whatever that country was called), FUCK YOU, WIFE AND KIDS, I'M BRINGING MY DOG HOME. Caps for relevant emotion. And I hate pets.

I do like the 'do you actually have a choice' underpinnings of SotC's narrative though, even though fans overblew it completely and the game itself is rather boring. Bioshock does it better.

I'm trying to think of the most popular game that I found boring to play but the only thing that comes to mind is Red Dead Redemption. And it's more that I dislike the writing and story so much that it sours everything else for me. I do love the setting and just going around and hunting animals.

Oh wait, Half Life 2. I'll see myself out. :(

Do it now! For the love of god man! DO IT NOW!

Edit:I see you have made a wise decision.

Hahaha! I like to think I'm occasionally capable of those. ;)

Red Dead Redemption I can kinda see, even though I loved it. But HL2? This is blasphemy of the highest order.

At the moment I am trying to go through Thomas Was Alone, but it is boring me too much.

Which is impressive after I have finished Ryse: Son of Rome today.

ICO was fantastic. I actually cried after I played the PSM magazine demo.

It was so beautiful.

Aw... Well, the graphics might not have the same effect on me in current times. ;) But I cry pretty easily so who knows?

Aw, I loved Thomas Was Alone! Such a charming game (with catchy tunes.

I don't have the energy to finish my playthrough, so you're not alone I guess.

I only play Zelda games lol... never had a PS2 to play SotC. That's why I never bought a Wii U, because Zelda is my only system seller.

I think I like following video game news (especially Nintendo stuff) more than actually playing video games sometimes.

I got super pissed off by the story of RDR just being "I'll help! BUT FIRST DO ALL THIS SHIT FOR ME THANKS" for every fucking mission

I will not comment on your HL2 opinion.

That's pretty much it, it is so charming, or at least it tries to be and I do think the writing is kind of fun. But loooooord that gameplay is something I would expect from a super simple game jam thing that stays entertaining for a few minutes. The solution is always clear but you constantly have to switch between all the characters and perform mind numbing actions.

I think I mostly liked RDR's story because it actually had a sympathetic lead and secondary characters, which is a massive rarity in Rockstar's games.

Yeah, I can see that. But the good news is the game is too short to really overstay its welcome.

Sure, and I have no intention to take that away from you.

I think it's an interesting study, and certainly several developers have claimed it as an inspiration of theirs (though not to the same buzzword level as Metroid or Dark Souls (which I'm saying to disparage lesser games, not Ghost Song)). I think you can look at how they tried to be somber and minimalist and discuss where they improved things from before, where their methodology still holds up today, and where other games have come in and done an even better job.

For example, despite being super atmospheric there's not really a lot of environmental storytelling. Dark Souls and other games have done a much better job of this. Who are the Colossi? Is it good or bad that they're being killed? Why are there no humans in this land besides Wander and Mono? Does Wander want to resurrect Mono because she's the only other human left, or because she's just a regular girl that he happens to like? What does she mean to him? Why is he willing to keep saving her even at the cost of his self? It seems like she either means more to the world at large, or he's really selfish and willing to slay the Colossi for her resurrection. But then would a selfish person allow the demons to corrupt him? But if she means more to the world then why is Wander the only one trying to save her?

Basically, the whole thing is a giant guessing game. It has no intention of giving you answers, just showing you dramatic events and hoping you'll interpret them as meaningful because in a normal story where you understand the context they would be meaningful. Not even Jon Blow is that pretentious.

30 seconds after walking the the door at work I squeezed half a cup of coffee all over myself. Fuck today.

Oh! I played both Portal games because it was actually an assignment in one of my college classes. Kid you not. They supplied the PS3 and everything. I REALLY liked those-- if Portal 3 comes out, I'm there.

Horizon: Zero Dawn also looks cool-- if a little overwhelming. I Let's Played Arkham Knight and Halo 5 recentlybecause I'd rather watch someone play those kind of games than stress myself out over the combat and whatnot.

Best Rockstar protag is still Tommy Vercetti for just being a massive asshole without even attempting to make him sympathetic

Just a vengeful psychopath

It sucks missing out on older classic games. The fact that they dont hold up so well sucks since when they game out they were so refreshing. Its brilliant how Ueda can tell a story with no words. ICO is one of my all time favorites. SoTC was a better game and it blew me away when it came out and overall I like it much better but it never quite impacted me the same way ICO did. I replayed SoTC not too long ago and I was still impressed by it even after all this time. Just try to keep in mind how old they are when playing.

Now those are some games I would love to hang out in a stream with you on if you have a means to do so.

Oh yeah, I'm no graphics whore. I can tolerate pretty much anything these days aside from perhaps early PS1 3D. Historical context is everything with older games.

(It's the controls that tend to age older games the most for me, not their graphics. I tried to play System Shock the other day and it's an absolute bear to control.)

At least you... have a ... job...

Luckily the HD collection of SoTC has improved on some of the more annoying contols in SoTC.

Or was it worse in the HD port... i cant remember

I already made my dramatic exit, but I had to acknowledge this post. Jesus, Lili. Lol. Good post even if I don't agree. I can't go toe to toe with you on this yet because it's been so many years and my memories of the game are a bit fuzzy. I need to brush up.

BTW I started Oxenfree last night but quickly fell asleep. That is not an indictment of the game though, I was just fucked up. Plan to try again soon.

Streaming a PS3 game sounds like a no-go. I could buy the PS3 collection and emulate the PS2 versions on the PC, though. It just depends on what quality of life changes they made to the PS3 versions that I'd have to give up.

Oh wait, Half Life 2. I'll see myself out. :(

Did you grow up on the first or shooters in general? Because if not, I can definitely see why it would not a person's interest. Also, even at the time I was disappointed with it as well (I've grown more accepting of it after that). Kinda felt like "Half-Life, but now outdoors!" at times, but particularly the contrast between the ever talking, ever smiling Alyx and the mute Freeman got on my nerves after a while. Particularly when the script prompted for a reply and none came.

Some questions are answered by knowing they are in "the forbidden lands" (also there are other characters in the game) and what he is doing is a forbidden ritual.

I assume that he cares a lot about her and is therefore willing to do all of that although that is never made explicitly clear in the game. I don't think it is also the kind of thing many people would wonder about. But it is the most straightforward solution that answers most of the other questions.

Also the collosi are the sealed away powers of the voice that is speaking with you. Which is why he wants you to kill them. Which is why people are not allowed there.

I have this really bad habit of chipping off pieces of my contacts when removing them. And I don't have new ones to replace at the moment so I'm putting up with somewhat subpar vision. :(

Yeah, that answers it a little bit. Thanks. I still don't have a great appreciation for the characters involved, but that's fine. I've already said my piece.

I just picked up the Star Wars: Lords of the Sith paperback today. Anyone read it? Any good?. Im looking forward to getting into it. I hope its decent. I haven't read a book in a long ass time.
