The Nintendo GameCube Appreciation and Collecting Thread.

Save a search for those manuals on ebay. I saved a search for a Resident Evil 2 N64 manual and finally got one after maybe 4-5 months.

Here are some other sites:

http://www.lukiegames.com/manuals

http://shop.bresoftware.com/ - I purchased a TMNT 2 Battle Nexus manual from there and it arrived in no time.

Thanks for those sites!

I found a PoR box on ebay this morning for 25 bucks. A little higher than I wanted to pay but its worth it.

Just wondering, and forgive me if it's already been asked, but is this upcoming HDMI adapter/mod for the Gamecube going to look any better than Nintendont on the Wii U through HDMI already does?

The scaling might be better, but all things being equal in 480p, it may be identical. The clear advantage of Nintendon't is that you can more easily force 480p, and wide screen hacks tend to work better than on GameCube.

GB Player is my only reason to bother modding the GC, personally.

Sorry to double post, but I think this needs attention... That feel whe you think a GAFer bought something from you on ebay...

Yeah, so I think a fellow GAFer bought my GC component cable. The name and address seems familiar... Like I think I've dealt with such person in the BST thread. I also listed it cheaper on the BST thread in spirit of preferential treatment and not having to deal with fees.

You guys think I should ask the buyer if he's a GAFer, or would that end up being weird? Maybe he got banned and couldn't contact me on GAF? IDK.

Just ask for his user name and check him out on the Feedback list on the BST thread. If he's a gaffer you could always refund him the difference. Or do nothing since you might be breaking even with Ebay fees.

Two days ago I 100% Pikmin 2. First of all, its a really great game, no doubt. And I just LOVED how they heavily upped the challenge in the game. However, I am not sure I liked the repetitive dungeon design. They could probably have made the game just as difficult by just forcing you to travel a lot of distance in the overworld with one group in one day. But yeah, amazing series for sure, but I do think I overall prefer Pikmin 1 thanks to its simply more enjoyable level desig. Anyways, I was impressed when I saw my stats, I had only left behind one pikmin during the game :) Took me almost 30 hours to 100% btw, which I did on day 31.

Pikmin 1&3 are waaaaaaaaay better than 2. It's definitely the weakest entry in the series.
At the time of release, it was praised for being the best sequel Nintendo had ever done lol.

I loved 2, I loved collecting the licenced items! And the story was great!

Dungeons were good to have a 'fixed' challenge too IMO.

I haven't played 3 yet but I just got it, pretty excited honestly.

I'm having problems with a copy of Code Veronica I got recently. The disc looks like it's in great shape, but I keep getting disc read errors at about the same spot in the game. If I open the lid and close it again, sometimes the game will be able to load me into the next area, but I always get an error before I get much further. I've tried using both my gamecube and my wii to play, but both have problems with this area so I suspect it's an issue with the disc. Is there a good way to clean the game that might help with whatever micro scratch is giving me trouble?

Update: I returned this one, and got another one that looked scratched to hell. Played through all of it with no problems, so I don't know what was up with that other copy.

Playing the third game now, and I think this is going to become my favorite of the three. Just has amazing level design so far. Hope it has some challenge as well though!

P2's dungeons will break you! lol Seriously though they were just needlessly long and depressing even. And if you failed, there wasn't a save point. The whole game felt like a trial mode. A trail mode isn't bad in and of itself, but a whole game... Yeah...

It actually saves automatically at each floor. Just exit to menu and reload the game if you screw up, and you will start your current floor over. I had to use this tactic plenty of times to get all the treasures. I liked the difficulty of the dungeons, but i just dont liked the boring design of many of them.

The dungeons were still legit tense. That damn underwater one still haunts me to this day.

I think it is my favorite of the three games. Loved the upgrades and Piklopedia.

2 is way more difficult, which is the good thing about it. But when it comes to level design and variety, 1 and 3 is better. So guess it depends on what you prioritize.

I played pikmin 3 only (one of many games I got free from the EU Mario Kart promotion) and it was alright. But I only played about twenty minutes of it. Not played the other two

Am I a bad person?

I'm worse, I only played the 1st for 5 minutes at a demo station. Then again I never got into the series and I don't know when I'll ever do so.

I played it once and never again. Couldn't stand functions that were forced only on the game pad.

Thanks! I found some for what look like reasonable prices.

It's time to pull the trigger on this. It's always been a dream item of mine. As well as the GC controller with the fucking keyboard on it.

Around how much do they go for? Always wanted one myself.

I've been following this thread for almost 2 years and thought it was about time I said hello! I've had my GCN stuff packed away for a quite a while and just recently I was finally in a position to unpack it all. Here's my collection:

Not pictured: A platinum GameCube with black GameBoy Player, an Action Replay, a pair of platinum WaveBird controllers, a platinum wired controller, one of the new black Smash Bros 4 controllers, and a copy of NHL Hitz Pro that has the manual, but a generic case. I have a set of component cables that I bought back when they first went on sale on Nintendo's website. I think all together, I have 61 games for this system. I'd say I bought around 60-70% of the games during the lifespan of the console, with the rest coming from Amazon sellers and eBay after the fact. I've got almost all of what I want, but there's a few games I'd still like to get my hands on. It's one of my favorite consoles ever! I wish I had the room in my TV setup to have all my old consoles, like the GCN hooked up, but sadly I do not. Because of this, I softmodded my Wii to install the Homebrew channel (thanks to another gaf thread that showed me how easy it was!) and am ripping all my Wii and GCN games. I've got a PC I use as a media server hooked up to my TV, so I'll be playing my games through there. Being able to use the GameCube controller adapter for the Wii U with Dolphin is just the icing on the cake. One day I'd like to get the original hardware hooked up again. I've got an old 21" Hitachi CRT PC monitor that takes VGA in, and I'm looking for a way to get a variety of SD consoles to output to VGA so I can make use of it.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and share my collection!

Maybe that disc had been lying in the sun.

I'd believe that. The sun wrecked the spines on a couple of my games because the sun was hitting them during the day when I was gone. Then one day I noticed how faded they looked and realized what was going on.

That sucks, but its been patched to work with everything now I believe. I rock the Wiimote/Nunchuk-combo in it.

How do you mean patched to work with everything? When I played it, it technically worked with other control methods... But you still needed to lug the damn control pad around even if you wanted to play with the Wiimote or the classic pro. You didn't access to a map, menu, and other things if you wanted to just use anything that wasn't the control pad. lol So if they patched it to where the map comes up on my TV screen via the Wiimote control, then... Wow... Yeah, I need to play the game again pronto.

Ah you are right, the map is still stuck on the gamepad. My way of playing it has been to just ignore the map and the gamepad, but yeah, indeed a stupid choice from Nintendo.

Hello, hi and welcome.

Nice collection, my friend.

Hello, hi and welcome.

Nice collection, my friend.

Thanks! :D

Turns out, my plan of using Dolphin on my media server to play my GCN games on my TV hit a pretty big speed bump. The AMD APU I have in there can't even run the games at native resolution with no enhancements! I got Steam's Big Picture Mode to stream Dolphin from my gaming PC to the TV, but using the Steam Controller with it is painful. I tried using the GCN controller adapter, but Steam apparently won't pass the input from that controller from the media server to Dolphin through in home streaming. I suppose I can use Nintendont on my Wii U, but I was hoping for some improved visuals! Has anyone tried to do anything like this, and if so, do you have any tips?

You're going to have the replace that Player's Choice version of Pikmin 2. The collector gods must be appeased.

Player's Choice actually screwed me over with Rogue Squadron. I played the game to the end with all secrets unlocked on a borrowed original. A few years later I bought a Player's Choice copy... and my original save would not load with the new disc. That sucked, but I loved the game too much not to start over.

I blitzed through Pikmin for the first time last weekend. It's still really fun and holds up extremely well for a 15 year old game, but maaan it feels basic compared to Pikmin 3 since you're essentially limited to managing one group of pikmin at a time.

I'm having a bit of a gamecube renaissance at the moment. I've been hitting up ebay for some of the games I missed out on back in the day, mostly relatively cheap 3rd party stuff. I'm looking at the EA Big catalog right now.

Been playing through all three games the last few weeks, and yeah, this is a valid complaint with the first game, but honestly, I didnt really use this feature much in the later games anyways. And after thinking carefully about it, I actually think the first game is the overall best thanks to its excellent level design and the fact that it does indeed have some semblance of challenge (which Pikmin 3 lacks). Great game!

Have you done a complete play through of P1, yet? I'd like to know how you reacted to the final boss. lol

I don't think I'm going to do the GC-Video mod after a dumb exchange on youtube with BadAssConsoles. I will not be sending any consoles to them for any modding. I will splurge on the component cables.

I sold my boxed cables already, but I have a loose cable still that I can also sell. I posted it in the BST thread already. What sort of exchange did you have with BAC? Feel free to PM me if you don't wanna make it too public.

Got the Raphnet adapter yesterday. I hooked up the basic SNES pad and tried Metroid Zero Mission on the GB Player. Very responsive, no detectable lag, mapped buttons are good... very happy with this, no complaints!

Nice to see it being a viable option in terms of responsiveness and button layout. If I come across them for a decent price, I will purchase one.

Pikmin is a pretty timeless game. I played it and Pikmin 2 for the first time about two years ago, a few months before 3 came out.

It's got that unmistakeable Nintendo charm.

Hey y'all, I have a copy of Beyond Good & Evil that I'd love to trade for another Cube game.

I'm looking for any of these:
Chibi Robo
Mario Kart
Mario Tennis
Mega Man X Collection
Star Fox Assault
Soul Calibur 2
Viewtiful Joe 2

Thanks!

I've been using Ralph's products for years.

Definitely, his converters are the best in the business.
