"Our frothing demand for this game increases".

Still one of the best box quotes ever lolol.

I'm jealous of those Rogue Squadron games. Still want to pick up a copy of those someday. I only have the N64 original.

They're dirt cheap for GC games. No excuse for any collector not to posess them. ;)

I actually bought Rogue Leader and Rebel Strike yesterday off eBay as well. I think I might be missing a booklet, but I don't mind right now.

It also includes 2 other SW games which I probably won't play, Rogue Squadron series is good.

Didn't hear about that. I heard MLIG is doing a YouTube video soon (if not out already) on gamecube digital out support. Seemed like they were secretive about something. I thought it was GC-Video as they showed the same picture we've all seen, but it sounded like an alternative was there?

I can tell you the GC component cable makes my gamecube games look great on a 720p set.

Haven't seen a recent from them regarding GameCube (yet).

I kick myself because a couple years ago, I found component cables for GameCube for $15 at a cell phone repair store. I turned them around on eBay later that day, but I have regretted that decision ever since.

The MLiG video about the Gamecube (it's going to be a GC RGB Masterclass video so more than just the HDMI mods for it) is supposed to be up I believe end of this week or maybe next week. Last I saw they said they were waiting on a piece from BadassConsoles I believe, to include in the video. They do mention that picture we've seen from the UK modder, which they got to borrow for a bit and test out. It's in the QnA panel video that they recorded during MAGfest.

I used to rent Wario World for the GC when I was a kid. I remember enjoying the game a lot. Is it actually an objectively good game or am I remembering it through kid goggles?

Does anyone have a link to that original IGN article where that quote comes from?

I don't have a link, but I actually used to work with the guy who wrote that preview. His name is David Smith. He's not in the games media anymore, but he was a fantastic writer, and he truly, deeply hated that Atari used that quote for the box.

Picked these up a couple days ago!

So I played the GC version of Twilight Princess quite a few times before the HD remaster on WiiU.

On one hand, the complete lack of jaggies is great. On the other hand, the missing filtration effects of the GC stick out like a sore thumb. The general over world has lost its dream like presentation. For some crazy, reason heat wave effects are gone... Completely. Not reduced, not replaced... just totally removed. That's pretty terrible.

If the HD version just managed to be jaggie free and kept the filtration effects, it would have been perfect. I'm a little underwhelmed so far.

My birthday is coming up quickly, I added TP on WiiU to my wish list. I never played TP on GC, so this will feel like a new Zelda game to me. Well never being only 15 minutes or so. Zelda is always about introducing new mechanics, but I didn't like the idea of turning into a wolf at the time.

I also didn't play Wind waker when it originally came out. Right now my favorite Zelda is a link between worlds, followed shortly by LTTP.

It's passable and I'm happy to have it since I was aiming to replay it before the announcement, but it could have been better. I've had a couple of pretty significant frame drops as well. Still, it does look better overall and is passable in my opinion, but I had hoped for more.

Happy birthday to both of us! My day is on the 13th. What's yours? The thing about TP's wolf mechanic is that it doesn't really have any appeal.

Being a Wolf in a Zelda game could be freaking awesome **COUGH**Okami**COUGH**, but TP implemented it in a boring way.
Coincidently, Okami HD absolutely destroys TPDH.

Well I'm not one to hate on TP, I just think Nintendo could handle things better.

I'd barely call it passable as well. It just loses so much without those old filters. It's what really gave the game an ethereal character. Although the visuals are clearer, its soulless. It like removing film grain from a well shot movie.

I've been subscribed to the retro threads for a long time but I think I never posted.

Anyways, I took some pics of my current GC collection. As you can see, I'm missing quite a few essentials but I'm working hard on getting them.

I don't have the Mario Party 7 box but aside from that, all the games are complete with manual.

^ nice collection! i don't see ikaruga, eternal darkness and atari's star wars arcade (rebel strike preview disc) in the pics. are they on another row?
Thanks, that's all I have at the moment.

Unfortunately, I live in a country where piracy was the norm at the time, so everyone skipped the GC and just bought a PS2 with hundreds of pirated games instead. Also, importing stuff from the USA has been almost impossible for the last 10 years due to all the roadblocks and paperwork you had to fill. Luckily, they finally lifted all that crap and I'm able to import again.

Ikaruga and Eternal Darkness are on the list of course. I didn't know about the rebel assault preview disc, will get that for sure too.

gotcha!

the rebel strike preview disc can be had for 5 bucks =)

By the way, one of my gamecubes have a USB mod on the side. I have no idea what this is. To dump games maybe?

I got it from a guy who was selling it with the component cables and since he didn't want to sell the cables separately, I bought the whole package.

Maybe for usb programming? Can't think of a modchip containing micro sized usb port. Is it on the back of the cube?

On another note, would have been awesome if Nintendo did release the rumoured ram expansion back in the day for serial port 2. Then again, maybe some modding community will release such a product in the future *keeps dreaming*. Does anyone know what the specs of serial port 2 is? I red somewhere the "high-speed port" is 81MB/sec. All I could find was this picture of a peripheral supposedly for development.

Very nice collection Dizzy-4U, itching to complete my collection as well but ntsc us games are so hard to find in Europe, in good, complete condition :(. Still need a lot of games.

Welcome. You have a very nice collection.

Randomly picked up PN03 for 6 euro the other day. Only played it for a few minutes, but it's quite fun! It is difficult though, just a few hits and you're dead.

Difficult but a great game, it really is painfully underrated IMHO.
Yep.

What people expected was a Devil May Cry set in space with a agile female protagonist with a great ass.

What we got was a 3D reimagination of Space Invader where the spaceship has a great ass.

I asked the stream for clarification on this "plug and play" announcement from Bad Ass Consoles, but doesn't seem like they are taking questions.

When I heard plug and play, I thought it was just the cable. However, when I watched the video by Bad Ass Consoles, it said..

"The plug will install onto GCVideo for 100% PlugNPlay connectivity with all GameCube versions DOL-001."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj-yohDS6hY#t=183

The chat said it's just a cable, but that text from the video makes me believe the GCVideo chip will still be required inside the GameCube.

Hahahaha that's a pretty great, and accurate, way of putting it! I thought the game was fantastic and was totally unfairly dumped on by the reviewers and a lot of players at the time. I've beaten the game a bunch of times and its always a good time. I wish we'd gotten a sequel!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but this was one of the "Capcom 5" that was supposed to be a big deal for Nintendo at the time, right?

You're not the first person I've seen who can't get a straight answer on this very topic.

Edit: I reviewed the video. It totally sounds like an external adapter that plugs into the stock digital out port. They just Sumerians it backwards... I think. They should have said "the external GCVideo will plug/instal onto the GC digital out port."

Also, it's interesting that they say it'll only take basic soldering skills. Maybe I'll be able to do this mod myself.

So wait... even if it plugs into the digital out port, it will still need soldering?

So its an internal mod that can use the digital out port rather than modifying the case/connectors?

I had really hoped its a thing you could just plug into the digital out and call it a day.

edit: maybe I'm confused and you mean the internal mod... >>
