FINAL FANTASY XV - Niflheim Base Battle Footage

Luna is a much cuter name and the symbolism associated to the moon probably makes more sense for FFXV considering weird stuff is supposed to happen to the moon.

Stella sounds like someone's grandmother's name.

Stella meant star and Noctis is night sky isn't it? So it was like stars in the night sky

But then again Luna still fits too as it does mean moon, and come on man don't bash Stella.

Would you have said that if that were still her name today?

Romantic love wasn't going to, but the love between friends or a father & his son? That was something that old trailers & interviews strongly implied would be important for Versus XIII and seem to have continued into this version of FFXV, however much they might've changed the overall storyline & things these people go through. We had flashback scenes in Versus XIII trailers where Noctis is running into Regis' embrace & quotes that made it clear how Regis felt about his son, a fun scene with Regis & kid Noctis in the E3 2013 re-reveal trailer and now the dawwwwww cute kid Noctis in the arms of his loving father in the Dawn trailer, so that's seemingly remained as a pretty central loving relationship from the early days of Versus XIII. And of course we have the guy love between the bros.

It'll remain to be seen just how big a part romance will have in FFXV, but that Tabata quote makes it seem like it's still not all that central. Maybe there is romance which is seemingly something that Versus XIII wasn't going to have (at least in the early days), but Noctis might not go all Squall on us by the end of the game even if that is the case. Even if Luna & Noctis will have a relationship that leans more on the romantic side, that quote makes it seem like it's not going to get too much screentime.

I don't think romance will be a major theme, rather than something that is just one part of the grander scheme. Romance was heavily important in FFVIII, FFIX and FFX. It was lesser important in FFVI, FFVII and FFXII.

And yeah, you are right. I think Nomura even said that that love isn't easily defined as purely "romantic love" between two lovers, but the love between friends and family are also important aspects regarding love as a whole. He also said something similar to Noctis and Stella's "relationship" being that of close friends, not lovers. That would've been interesting to see. You rarely get important male and female characters in stories(especially games) that aren't "required" to shack up solely because the "gods of love"(and hopeless romantic audience) feel that's necessary and essential for good story telling. I find it cliche whenever that happens. Y'know, let's put the MAIN male character together with the MAIN female character... because... TRADITION! Don't wanna ruffle no feathers of the lovelorn, heart-eyed peeps in the crowd! It's kinda why I love "already established" love or love where the main male and main female characters AREN'T drawn to each other(but other characters).

One already established romance I liked was Ashley from Wild ARMs 2. He was already with Marina by the start of the game, and by the end, returned to her. Had that game been dictated by mediocre romance standards, they would've written him getting together with Lilika(who was technically the main female). They didn't and that was awesome. Though, writers love to play it safe, and nothing's more safer than the pairing of a main male lead with a main female lead.

Stella sounds like someone's grandmother's name.

Luna does sound cuter, like a soft flower selling girl that you want to protect.

Stella sounds like the daughter of a gang leader that you don't want to fuck with.

Or something.

Noctis means night. Luna and Stella both work for their chosen motif, but they wanted to change the character so they changed the name to make it clear. I don't think he's bashing.

Stella would have been a fine name, but it does sound like an older woman's name in general. Blame "A Streetcar Named Desire" for dating it.
They are both equally overwrought as per the FF tradition.
Exactly.

My backlog is going to get even more jammed after FFXV hits. There isn't much hope for it.

Sure will. If we're expecting these games to hit within the year:

Star Ocean 5 (localized)
World of Final Fantasy
Kingdom Hearts II.8
Nier Automata
Tokyo Xanadu (localized)
Dragon Quest VII (localized)
Dragon Quest VIII (localized)
Odin Sphere Leiftrasir (localized)
Trails of Cold Steel II (localized)

I'd say good luck, lol.

Type-0 is easy to play actually and it's relatively short (25-30 hours). And it's probably the easiest FF plat.

If I were you I'd put TitS:SC when you're done with all the shorter games. The Kiseki games aren't known for being short actually.

I do hope I'm able to finish my backlog when FFXV comes out. I've got Cold Steel on the way, then Breath of Fire 3, Legend of Legacy, Hotline Miami 2, Lunar PSP, and Boy and His Blob.

Probably good advice on TitS:SC. I sank about 80 hours into Cold Steel by the time I finished.

I should finish Type 0, but now am worried I'll have lost my groove with the battles.

I did just clear The Witness tonight, though have some challenges and extra content left to poke around at.

Whatever I've still got going when XV lands though, I'm clearing the deck!

I prefer the name Luna (or Lunafreya) to Stella.

Stella is just too plain a name for a main FF character imo.

And not new. I have a pet peeve regarding names being reused in the series. Sara/Sarah being one of them. It would be like, what if in future FF games, we had main females named Rachel, Anna, Elma, or Raine. Only reused name to find itself in the series multiple times, and I don't mind, is "Cid". It's a peeve and nothing more.

The name Lunafreya has been used already? In which FF specifically?

Edit: Woops -.-

Well Luna has been technically used already in terms of FF couple pairings. Yuna means Moon in Okinawan. So Luna in Latin is also moon, heh.

Do we really know that? We haven't seen Noctis together with Luna yet.

Yeah, Luna is supposed to have her own resolve and decisions. A strong and unique personality to her. She may be in love with Noctis throughout the story but I'm happy she isn't a a damsel in distress, at least according to Tabata that is. We need another female protagonist with burning resolve and a strong personality. Kind of like Terra... I really liked her character. Yuna gets stronger throughout her journey and becomes less naive. I don't want to see that with Luna. I want a strong female from the get go that will hopefully contrast well with Gentiana.

Gentiana being Levi would be cool as shit. I really hope that is the case and we have a lot of signs pointing that way.

Or something.

Lunafreya sounds like a valkyrie that would rip your balls out of your mouth if you looked at her ugly.

Stella sounds like a girl you would cry for and scream her name beneath a balcony.

I'm incredibly hyped for FF XV too but please... please... keep expectations in check. Tabata has convinced me that there's alotta potential for this game to be freaking good but like with all games... there's always a chance it will end up failing in a certain area or struggling majorly at a certain aspect. I know alotta people will be practically crying when they start FF XV because of the long wait and history this game has. I just don't want alotta people practically crying because they realized the game wasn't as amazing they hoped it would be.

I hope it doesn't sound like I'm being anti-hype because I love being hype. I'm super hyped about FF XV and various other games. I'm just speaking from experience. Xenoblade Chronicles X was my most anticipated game ever since it was announced. My hype for that game could destroy mountains because of how big and powerful it was. When I finally got the game, I was dancing and nearly crying because the wait had been long and I felt like the game was gonna blow my mind. I haven't finished XCX and my impressions of the game can change over time... and right now... I'm enjoying myself but there's stuff that bothers me in the game. And since there's stuff that bothers me in the game.. it hurts me more than usual because I expected it to be sooooo dang good. And by "hurt", I mean "really disappointed". I'm not giving up on XCX, though. I'm still giving it a chance. INB4: "Well, blame YOURSELF for being so emotionally attached to a game before it released then actually finding out it isn't as good as you hoped it would."

Sorry if it sounds like I'm rambling or if it sounds dumb.

I'm looking for that article where Nomura/Tabata said to think FFXV is a new game and not Versus XIII (or something). I'm arguing with someone who keeps claiming FFXV will release in May because it's been 10 years in the making.

In the spirit of Danish philosopher Kierkegaard, it's just that eager and extended anticipation, that Hype I'm sure he would have called it had the word been coined, that represents the highest order of rational pleasure. When are the senses more keen, the sensibilities more resonant, than when looking forward to a long-desired good?

Does the real world disappoint? Naturally. And yet the hype for XV can serve as 10 years' diversion. The game itself will be dispensed with in a mere 40-100 hours. As I age, I increasingly find that there is a satisfaction in anticipation that is not retrospectively diminished by the inability of real life to measure up.

Stella is a Belgian beer.

It all makes sense now

I feel you.

I really think the main reason why Tabata said to think of FFXV as a new game is just due to the development. So don't think of actual development starting 10 years ago when in reality it started around 2011 and 2012.

That's interesting to see that this game still have this mainstream mentality. Most of my friends who just know the game by name or by most important trailers (2013) still believes this game is old from 10 years ago.

I actually think it would be pretty cool if you saw a really good romance between Noctis and Luna and then at the end you find that she's the main villain of the game, manipullating Noctis and company due to something that happened to her parents or other relatives in the past because of the kingdom of Lucis.

See:

Final Fantasy XV is not Versus XIII any more:

Tabata: “Lastly, as we make these major changes that I just mentioned, there are other characters that we have introduced in the past, like a woman with dark hair, and and a dragoon—a female dragoon. I would like to reiterate that these characters are still in the game with their own important roles within the story, so you can look forward to playing FFXV to find out about them. All these things I have been talking about have been the subject of extensive debate, and were decided with a level of utmost resolve in order to make Final Fantasy XV into the best game possible, so at least in our minds, these decisions are making the game better.

“However, we realize there are fans who had been looking forward to Versus, and can’t help but think that this game is turning out to be different from Versus. So I wanted to take this time to tell you before we start promoting FFXV at Gamescom, that this is indeed a different game now, and that we will be taking steps to promote FFXV to you—our fans—with confidence from here on out. We will make absolutely no compromises as we head towards finalizing the best possible game, so I hope you look forward to FFXV. Thank you for your attention, and thank you for your continued support.”

Apparently she is a FF fan, and a KH fan, wat. lol

Finally, somebody asks me a questions like this! I've been asked about Steve Harvey all the time and about Miss Universe. Let's talk about Final Fantasy!
I started with Final Fantasy VIII. Not a lot of people like VIII because they usually start with FFVII. But I started with VIII because I'm a girl and I fell for the love story.
My favorite character...that's a tough one... is Quistis. The one with the whip. I like her. And my favorite GF, you know when they summon the GF, is Shiva. She's my favorite. Then I do the boost, as well, so I get more damage. I love Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts. I finished all of Kingdom Hearts with no gameshark.

Good lord, ya'll are still going on about Stella vs. Luna? XV discussion is one of the reasons I joined GAF to begin with, but holey moley.

That's really cool that she is a fan but holy shit I hope it isn't a cringe fest. This has got me a little worried. Focus on the game please... Please...
