Can anyone recommend me a good Ryu guide (or offer any general advice for using him)? And is it just me, or are Shoryukens almost never worth the risk?

SRK's are fucking great. Don't go spamming them but they are great for anti air (someone jumping in at you), and they are necessary in combos, but there's nothing quite like a wake up SRK.

Is Mika's s.MP -> s.HP not a proper block string if the MP is blocked? Or am I just not hitting the timing, getting grabbed out of it quite often i feel

It's not a proper block string. 5MP is -2 on block, 5HP is 7 frame startup. You'll get beat by anything with an 8 frame startup or less.

Input the move before you've finished getting up. If you did it right, then a red sign should pop up on the side of the screen, saying "reversal".

This works for quick wakeups as well as the regular, longer wakeups.

I'm just in training and I'm fighting chun-li with her recorded as doing cr.hk. I can wake up quick if I press 2 punch or kick buttons but if I just do like DP I'll just wake-up quick and not do anything. Should I make her do something different to knock me down?

Edit:

SRKs seem more dangerous to me than ever, though. It probably doesn't help that my DS4 seems to throw them out at inopportune moments.

I throw out accidental shoryukens when trying to do my critical arts with my DS4. Analogs are just too small to be that precise, and don't get me started on a dpad that has no diagonal inputs.

Can you save replays in ranked? I dont see an option anywhere (other than the ps4 share button lol)

Nope, PC. It's weird that I can play just fine and lag-free when someone connects into my battle lounge. Simply no matches in ranked/casual queues though. This isn't location-based is it? Because I'm currently in an area of the world that certainly doesn't have many SF players, if any at all. In SF4 you could actually choose which region you prefer to queue in, but there is no such option in this. Could it be the game keeps trying to find people in my current location's vicinity?

My situation isn't quite as bad as yours, but yesterday I got into a grant total of five ranked matches over the course of three hours of with fight requests set to accept everything. And three of those matches were against the same player. I would hazard a guess that most of the people who say they're getting constant matches are American.

That could be it. I've just seen some people in some of the other threads saying how 2000 wins for 1 character is bullshit and citing things like character levels and story mode clears as giving you plenty of points and they way they corrected me made it seem like you get the 10,000 on clear and 1000 per every level regardless of Story Mode or Survival clears.

Just needed to double check because the servers and not being able to check if you've got the correct amount rewarded.

I mean the 2000 wins for 1 Character thing is bullshit, but yeah, a lot of the FM reward from story mode is because it automatically levels you up a certain amount. You still get 1000 for each level up outside of single player modes.

Yay finally ranked up!

Wake up shoryukens are still pretty dangerous, but if you dont do them at all, I think one or two if the opponent looks like they might fall for it could work. Of course now i'm relearning Ken's different SRK properties all over again (cool that Shoryureppa is now an EX move).

Also learned that a Medium Shoryuken can be a finisher for his MK > HK chain. You have to be quick though. I still need to learn to Tatsu or V-Skill dash on reflex after a HP crush counter.

Nash can fuck right off. Either all of these new ranked players are top tier champs, or he is just an easy character to combo with. The same player has been matched with me 5 times in the last hour and broken my 2 win streaks.
He's definitely NOT easy to combo with. I'm slowly building my ability to do his combos one move at a time.

Finally made it out of bronze into super bronze, so I think I'm gonna call it a night.

I'm glad most of the network issues have been sorted out now, finally getting a chance to get lounges going with some friends was pretty great.

Justin Wong has been playing for 2 days and the pre-match screen still says he's "Not Ranked". Why is that? Ingame, it says he's rank 1461.

I did the pre order on psn, but it seems I didn't get the chun li costume. And I'm holding off on doing survival etc. for the fight money online I've been getting a message after quite a few of the matches I've played online that the match didn't get registered on the servers so I don't get any fight money from them.

Do the 2 punch or kick (kick forces you backwards, so doing a shoryuken after is kinda useless) and while you're still getting up, keeping doing the DP. As soon as you get up, your character will automatically do a DP as soon as he gets up. Same applies for every move.

The same works for regular wakeup, just do the same thing except for the 2 punch/kick thing.

Like I said before, If you did it right, you should get a little red notification on the side that says "Reversal".

I do think Im getting wrecked with high ranked players cause its the bay area and its fucking tournament shit all day everyday around here so that's all I get

I just had a reallllll reallllly 18 hour day at work. I get home and first match was a good match against a high bronze player. I win and he quits before I get credit :(. Any1 wanna battle lounge a scrub on east coast America?? Psn is philooch if you wanna add me. Cfn is "Filthy"

So now that I am close to having 1k LP I guess it is time to learn to do combos in matches. Best way to learn is probably doing casual matches and just try to do the combo you are practicing? I can do bunch in training but against non moving target it is easy and fighting against CPU sucks.

Also, Bison is so ridiculous to play against. No wonder he's been finishing high in tournaments

Bison is scary as hell to fight against. Most people online do very predictable stuff though.

Nash has the easiest combos in the game...

Yeah Nash combos are not bad and pretty accessible. You double tap lot of his links easy. But then again almost all links in SFV are not that difficult. But for some reason i f.hp link to c.hp as ryu still hard to me. Can't link it constantly.

I have now been stomped down into the rookie rank... I wasn't that far off of super bronze an hour ago. I must be on, like, a ten game losing streak. I am realizing that I don't know how to fight against A LOT of the cast.

Then they match me with the silver ranked Bison...

Salt levels... critical.

Ok, this pretty much proves what I was dreading, matchmaking is not a global affair but strictly location-based. This is going to be awful for me because my area of the world hardly has any players in it at all according to the in-game map. This really blows, I've never had issues connecting to EU players in any other fighting game (or ANY online game for that matter). All matches I had with people in EU in the lounge were quite lag free. Really hope they allow people to queue in whichever region they want or I guess I'll never be able to play ranked and casual matches from here...

Thanks man, that worked.

Been finding matches very quickly these last couple of maches, I like this, this is nice. Let's keep the relationship we have going here, SF5

I just don't really know what to do, feel like Bison outpokes Mika, and those air moves are annoying, also the long range quick knockdown moves he have makes it very hard to me to do stuff I feel

Gotta use her crouching HK to get in and close the distance, also for tricky command throws.

I really wonder what kind of percentage distribution the rank leagues will have. Feel like you lose points so easily that 90%+ will never get out of bronze

c.hk is so unsafe though. I feel like everytime I use it I'm fucking up and doing something that's a bad habit because it works agains't players who don't defend well

I dunno if it's just gonna be like this early but the way the game handles lag feels so much worse than 4. I cannot fucking stand the teleports when I'm playing against someone laggy.

Yes and no, if distanced properly it can be really safe, or you command grab immediately after it whiffs. It's a really dirty Mika trick but it only works if the opponent isn't mashing jab and if they aren't expecting it.
