House hunting, work, and general fatigue is brutalizing my free time right now. I'm hoping to make this game the entirety of my Sunday since the girl is going out of town for the weekend.

New players: stop learning combos

You are doing it wrong. Worry about pokes, distances, blocking. Play the game like its Mortal kombat 2, jump heavy kick followed by crouching heavy kick.

Well technically thats playing it like SF2 also :D But yeah, combos should be the least of your worry early on.

I think it's worth learning one good/reliable punish when you're starting out.

Fucking fucking fuck hate kens. I'm learning the game and I block maybe one and like yay I can do something, get just one punch in and nope here's another shoryuken to the face. You knocked me down? Here's another shoryuken to the face. I know I just need to get better, I react too slow when I block one and they get to keep throwing em out. It's just frustrating, I don't get as mad losing to anyone else but these kens that play like that.

Can someone sticky this please!!!!! people are always so caught up on combos.....When combos at a beginner level will do nothing but make you lose.

Yeah survival takes too long and isn't fun. I'd rather the ai put up more of a fight, didn't jump in difficulty and you had 'purchaseable' lives. And was way shorter. Because I don't want to do 90 fights with every character.

Does anyone know if they are going to patch the game for getting outfit colors?

Or do we really have to play survival mode with the same character (different outfit) in order to unlock colors for each costume?!

Exactly. Combos mean shit if you don't have the fundamentals to land them.

I mostly agree but I think new players should make sure to learn one jump-in combo with 2 hard hits canceled into a special and one short, reliable punish combo that ends in a knockdown.

You don't get any stuff for hell difficulty. Unless you mean Easy, Medium, and Hard.

Playskool's My First Combo™

Damn, gotta work late tonight, & for once I actually have stuff to do for the rest of the week. Gonna be brutal checking this thread on GAF while not being able to play.

Sounds like you need a better pad, or need to get better at your stick.

Gief can do just fine without his super. His EX tools are too useful and high damaging not to be used.

Probably the latter. Yeah but Muscle power for you is fun

Just played a round like an asshole lol

Beat the opponent with nothing except jabs

Jump jab into jab x3

jab anti-airs into jab long range pokes

jab fighter v

I really need some advice as Karin vs Vega. I can't deal with his jump move where he can either claw or grab. I tried both standing and crouching heavy punch, but I think I'm either timing it wrong, or that doesn't stop it. I also tried EX qcb punch, but I got air grabbed out of it. I'm at a loss here.

The Lupe Fiasco method is already proven to sky-rocket fighters to the upper echelons of competitive play. You'll be bodying Infiltration in no time at all.

Is there some good videos on Cammy at the moment? Pretty much going off learning on my own and figuring out what still works from my infrequent use of her on SFIV. (Mained Sakura.)

Charlie match up is so bad against character who are good with corner pressure which is like half the characters in the game. I hope he gets a real reversal instead of relying on V-Reveral which by the time gets it be either dizzy or near to.

Mike ross stream where??

Oh nvm its just mike ross on twitch :)

If I knew I probably wouldn't get destroyed.

Thankfully every match now you can go look at again via replays. Plus it's way easier to see why you were getting hit, what you opponent did to stop you and with the option to look at the button inputs identify any execution errors or things like when you were not blocking or pressing buttons when you shouldn't be. And even easier to analyse as you've essentially viewing it in the third person.

Birdie is my next character after Gief, I tried him a bit in training and loved him

Yess! After 15 consecutive losses ive finally managed to 2-0 a bad Ryu and it feels like ive done a TD in Super Bowl. Time to retire and wait for my SF halloffame announcement.

Has anyone played their steam version of the game from multiple locations? (not at the same time) I'm not sure if it's tracking the points I earned properly.

For example, say I finish Ryu's story for the first time on machine one and net me X points. Later I play the game on the second machine, it thinks Ryu's story mode isn't complete. But if I play through his story mode on the second machine, I don't earn any points and I'm not entirely sure all the points from machine 1 showed up on machine 2 either.

Really loving the gameplay in the match, especially the new footsie game that lacks SF4's get out of jail free FADCs, but man, I fucking suck at getting opportunities to use Mika's command throws. I'd love some advice on how to do that, because the speed of most characters and the half-circle back motion means I just go for regular throws instead when my opponent is blocking.

I did steal a corner setup I saw in a replay off of an irish whip:

f.mp > mp (wall bounce) > f.hp > cr.mp (reset) > command throw

Catches a lot of people off guard, but I don't know any similar setups in the middle of the screen.

Congrats! I just got my third win out of like 20 games or so? I finally slowed down and punished him for spamming crap. Or i think i did? I'm still not 100% sure what i'm doing.

who were you playing?
