What do you think Hillary's game plan will be come general election time?

Watch from home like the rest of us?

She basically just needs to not make any huge blunder and the WH is hers. Trumps' negatives among voters are higher than Hillary's, which is impressive. She won't really have to "fight" for the WH if Trump is the nominee.

But Hillary will have to actually fight for votes if the GOP wises up and nominates Rubio. Even then, any Dem's path to the WH is easier than a Repub's path.

You guys gotta understand. Trump might be dominating the headlines now, but Hillary has literally been subjected to this kind of abuse for close to two decades now. Trump is nothing compared to the conservative venom she has had to deal with in 15+ years. They literally have nothing new. Why do you think they are desperately trying to make Bengahzi and the emails a thing, and been attacking her mercilessly during the primaries? Because they know this is the best time to stop her. Once she survives those things, it's a relative cakewalk.

I don't think this would really work. Many Americans look for the loudest, most obnoxious and charismatic person, not the most logical. There's a reason why reality TV is so popular in America and Trump knows how to be a reality TV personality.
Those points wouldn't make a dent because Trump would always try to get in the last word.

The Americans who value that are the ~30% of Republican primary voters already supporting him. Enough voters to win a heavily divided primary, but not enough to carry him one-on-one even in one party, let alone in the general. Trump's message is tailor made for an core of outraged voters big enough to hijack the Republicans, but not much else.

Ultimately, American voters outside of the primaries are a little-c conservative group. They don't make huge gambles on the presidency. They're not going to take a gamble on Trump.

Obama + Hillary + Bernie + Biden all on the campaign for Hillary will fire up the base.

Hillary's on her own right now, once the big, popular Democrats start throwing in their support, it'll change.

Even at its worst, no one yelled or screamed at her like Trump has against everyone on the republican stage. Trump is going to shush her. He is giong to say horrible things about her in the most disgusting fashion. She has never faced anything like him.

I really don't understand this. People think politicians are too cozy with Wall Street, so vote Trump? That's CUTTING OUT THE MIDDLEMAN!

Many people don't see it that way. He says everything so confidently that some people will just accept it as fact, especially the uninformed.

If the average Trump supporter is like my mother (who is a Trump supporter, FML) then they:

Hate how the government has been run for the past 30 years
Dislike the large amounts of social progress that has been made in the past decade
Are constantly afraid of terrorism thanks to 9/11
Have had years of corporate news media reinforcing their ignorant beliefs
Are still recovering from the Great Recession

All this adds up to create a desperate, angry, and ignorant person with an idealized, but false, belief about the past who has the ability to vote for an extremely charismatic person who promises to solve all their problems.

No Republicans have gone after Trump. It's sort of amazing. He won't have that luxury in the general when her theme will be Scortched Earth.

I'm excited to see Trump call Bill Clinton a rapist in a nationally televised debate though.

The second he does the bold is the second he loses the election. He gets away with that shit due to the views of the GOP primary electorate, but the general electorate isn't nearly as insane and is a lot more centered.

And you know he'll blame Hillary for it too.

I don't think she will be as effective against him in a debate as you guys think. There is no way his bully persona will come out but he will stand up to her and call her out more than Bernie has. Say what you want but the man's not dumb. He knows how to play to an audience.

She will go after him on his racist remarks and lack of foreign policy experience. He will attack her trustworthiness (something like 70% of Americans don't trust her, more trust him), her own racist remarks/dog whistles, how she can be bought by special interests (including how he gave her money for favors and/or access), her Iraq war vote, Libya, etc.

She will probably win the debates, but I don't think it will be a cakewalk and I do think he will do some damage.

i think this is a pretty accurate portrayal of how it might go down. To win the nomination Trump just has to propose crazy shit. To win the general hes going to cause conflict within Hillarys/Democrat coalition. He doesnt need more votes, they just need less.

Hillary has had people slinging murder conspiracies at her since the 90s. Trump can't throw anything new at her.

That's my biggest reason for not buying into the idea that Bernie would be stronger than Hillary against Trump. Hillary's weaknesses are all priced into her current numbers because they've been getting hammered into the public's minds for twenty years. Bernie has never had to deal with the kind of attacks Republicans can throw against him, when they'll be running ads that just yell socialist over ominous music and images of Soviet flags, when they try to make Bernie answer for every little thing he did way back as a college activist, and when they try to spin it as Trump's not the extremist, Bernie is. You can argue that those things don't matter to the newer generation, but they're still just a fraction of the electorate, and Bernie's claims to be able to drive up their turnout isn't materializing in the primaries. Turnout is down in every single one on the Democratic side. Bernie's general election numbers are inflated right now because he hasn't come under any Republican attack yet.

Before being SoS, I believe Hillary's highest favorables were during Lewinski.

Republicans don't go after Trump because he will call out their bullshit loudly, crudely, and without pulling any punches. Those career politicians have a lot to lose by challenging trump directly.

Anybody calling Trump out better have their shit together. This is one reason I don't believe Hillary can stand up to him. She has too many character flaws. Trump calling them out will be comedic gold and relatable to the general public.

But Hillary's character flaws have been in the media for 20+ years. They're old jokes.

What's he going to use?

The people are tired of Benghazi
The people are tired of email stuff
The people are tired of making fun of her appearance (and Trump wouldn't do this anyway)
Nobody cares about Bill's affair anymore
How effective will "you take money!" be when Trump takes GOP money to run for president AND Hillary has Bernie's endorsement?

Hillary is going to be in rare form in the general. This is her life's work finally coming together. Her dream. She's not going to go down easily or let Trump walk all over her, she's come too far for that.

Her flaws are different than the GOP's though. They couldnt attack Trump because Trump is an unfiltered version of everything the GOP stands for.

Are Democrats really going to make the same mistake as Republicans and underestimate Trump? Debating against someone who will make things up on the spot, insult you, then claim victory is hard. I imagine an exchange something like this:

Clinton: (two minutes of well scripted thought out policy)
Trump: "everything she just said is a lie. Americans know they can't trust Hillary just look at her poll numbers. They've known her for 20 years and think she is a typical politician and liar. With me American will win again. With Clinton America lost to Russia and lost to the whole middle east. We need an outsider to stand up and make America great again."

(half the room claps Trump declares victory)

HillaryGAF underestimates Trump at their own peril. He's charismatic and unpredictable. Hillary has substantial negatives herself with independents and is generally regarded as dishonest. She's also not terribly charismatic or personable.

I read an article this week which outlined a path to the presidency for Trump. He'd have to win states in the Rust Belt that Obama took in 2012 to have a shot. If he can get many angry working-class white voters out for him, and maybe pivot enough away from his statements on minorities, Trump might make this a dogfight.

Her blatant and insulting lies about Bosnia.
Her vote for the Mexican border fence and drone patrol
Her statements that she doesn't knowingly lie to the American people.
Her laughing off transparency when it comes to her Wall Street pandering.
Her open federal investigations.
Her stances against LGBT until it was cool.
Her low approval before entering the general.
Her consecutive winning of all these coin tosses to secure extra delegates.
Her commitment to all things establishment.

Need more?

Dodge Trump's bullying? She doesn't need to dodge it. In fact, the more he sends her way, probably the better for her.

I think Trump's people are wishing he was going to be running against a man. He has already caught a lot of flak for his comments on women. His fans wouldn't care if he said Hillary was a whore and a cunt, but those are his core supporters. He's going to have to be measured in the kinds of things he says about her come general election time.

So, it's a win-win, really.

Need more?

Half of that is bullshit and the other half is stuff people don't even care about outside of people that frequently regurgitate those talking points. So yeah, please tell us more!

Sure. It's all about turnout and an exciting candidate makes people vote who wouldn't ordinarily.

I don't see republican turnout being any better than it was in 2012. A lot of people saw that as their last stand against a tyrant president ready to usher in 1000 years of darkness.

She doesn't have to do anything, which is why she is the greatest bet moving forward.

She's been dealing with Republican shit flinging since BENGHAZZZIIIII so all of her dirty laundry has already been aired. I think the American people usually have a breaking point when it comes to repeated hit pieces (look at the American opinion on Benghazi/emails- It does have diminishing returns).

All she has to do is be herself. She's taken abuse for years and always comes out smelling like roses. During a national debate with Trump, I expect that she will embarrass him as she can actually ask all of the questions that his current running mates can't, and will make him look like a childish bully to the American people.

This isn't even true, lol. Jeez, at least try to pretend to be objective.

She had an excellent showing last night at the Town Hall, even seemed to convert a Sanders supporter who asked about Student Loans. She keeps that up and she'll be unstoppable come November.

Aside from the "establishment" point, those aren't things centrists and right leaning independents care about and half of those things aren't things Trump or the RNC can attack her on as his positions are significantly to the right of hers or he himself does those exact same things. (Or the fact that his disapproval rating is far higher than hers has ever polled.)

You can't look at this through a left leaning lense when saying Hilary is going to lose swing states or rust belt states that Obama or even Kerry held handily.

So exaggerated talking points, half truths, stuff the American public are bored of, memes started by Bernie Sander's Reddit crew, and petty jabs at wording.

Versus the pile of garbage spewed by Donald Trump over the last 8 months.

Yea, I'm going to need some more.

I feel like everyone is downplaying what kind of craziness we're going to see from Trump supporters down the line. I'm expecting some ultra-racist, nativist, Joe the Plumber style insanity on a greater scale than we saw in 2008. These are not the kinds of people who endear themselves to the general population.

If not outright Mississippi style violence at the polls.

Mitt Romney is one of the least exciting candidates you could throw out there. He's a Massachusetts RINO to most of the base.

Trump will demolish his turnout

Well... You have to consider those who aren't going to come out and vote because Trump is the candidate (the sane people).

They're out there. I don't know how many, but they're out there.

Assuming Sanders doesn't pull some magic shit with his numbers and sweep in the next few polls, we still have ages to go without the internet wholesale shitting on Hillary due to Sanders crews on top as well. I'm not that worried, it's hard to talk straight politics on social media at the moment with everyone so invested in the primaries.

And don't forget the GOP members who will vote blue for the first times in their lives if Trump is the nominee. I don't know how many people are a part of this, but it won't be insignificant.

Remember, even some Nazis wanted to kill Hitler.

Ronald Reagan won in a landslide by winning 56% of white voters. Romney got his ass handed to him by winning 60% of white voters. Turnout doesn't get much better than that and the white vote would need to turn out in unprecedented numbers.

Trump isnt just pandering to the republican base. He is bringing in new voters. His appeal is to regular white people, not just racist white people. Go out and talk to your friends and family and coworkers. You will be surprised to see how many like him.

Trump will likely lose to Hilary but he isnt just popular with racists.

He's probably not bringing in new voters -- when we look a state like Iowa, Republican caucusers were up, Democrats were down. But Democrats ended up registered more people than Republicans did, so I don't know if it's new appeal as much as the base just being excited that someone's saying the things they already thought.
