I can't even beat Survival on Normal. I think I might be actually too bad for this game.

What? Don't feel bad. Survival is horrible. Locking colors behind it is just dumb. I'm only doing Easy Survival. Hopefully you can buy colors in packs when the Store comes in March.

Any tips for Survival Hell?

I take it I should follow the same kind of tactics used for hard? Anybody know the random difficulty spike levels?

Ryu or Ken are your only hope.

I spent hours going through Survival Hell spamming Shoryuken. Did it.

It's not worth it honestly. You only get 20,000fm for around 2 hours of pain.

I'm the same way. Think this is going to end up like 3 where I admire it from afar, but it's just too much for me.

Still feels weird though. after over 1000 hours in Super 4 and beyond and winning more than I lost, I just can't grasp this one. Almost praying Ibuki has the same invulnerability and recovery windows as 4, but I doubt it. Even if not, if her moveset is very similar, I know I have an answer to most things I see already.

I'm no expert, but I remember hearing some announcers during last years Evo stream say that that Ibuki was kind of a crutch character for a lot of people in SF4 because you could abuse stuff with her without actually learning the fundamentals of the game. Sounds like you were in Ibuki player, so maybe that's whats making it hard for you to adapt to SFV? Maybe you can try building up by grinding with Ryu for a bit to get into the rhythm of the game?

Woo finally reached bronze! Now to learn some combos.

Ibuki wasn't a crutch! She was a lifestyle choice! D:
After playing Street Fighter for YEARS all the way through SFIII, playing Ken got booooooring... When they introduced Ibuki in New Generation, I don't know, I made the switch then and didn't look back.

Liberating to play as a character without a fireball... (With lots of fun mix-ups)

God they better not ruin Ibuki...
Also... Also... I want her (non-EX) neck breaker to slide under fireballs... ... Make it happen Capcom!

Beating survival is more or less a dice roll after Stage 20. Outside of specific characters with guaranteed cheese, it doesn't mean you're good or bad at the game. Just that the computer didn't read and react perfectly to your inputs that particular time.

I know, although we had air projectiles! Just so goddamn fun to play, it's not the difficulty or the crutch to pick a character in V, it's just that none of them are as fun to play. Although....

You might be right. I mean, when I got going, this was freaking abuse of just about everything:

Damn I hope she comes to 5 somewhat unscathed.

im not even mad anymore, im just losing every match now. I feel like im not progressing at all, if anything I regressed. Its not even a "take a break" moment, im perfectly calm, im just shit I guess, starting to feel pointless to even play this.

Like, everyone apparnelty knows huge combos. I cant even do a 3 hit combo. Maybe fighters just arent for me anymore :/

No, you probably do need to take a break, perhaps a day or two to get your mind off the game. Or at the very least stay off ranked for a while, and only play with friends, and don't focus on anything other than just the fight in front of you. I've been in that place several times before, and once you get into that mood nothing goes right, and you are certainly not going to feel like you're making progress, but if you keep playing and practicing, then you will make progress in my experience.

Also, I personally can't really do big combos in a match .. most of mine are just a normal or two cancelled into a special, which is actually a step down from where I was with my main in USFIV. I am currently working on several longer combos, but I don't think I've hit them in an actual match yet, as I just tend to forget to use them. It's not stopping me from having fun, though, win or lose. :)

Did you rely on vortex in SF4?

Coming from SF3, Ibuki didn't play or feel anything like I wanted or expected in SF4. I'm sure she'll be closer to her SF3 incarnation in this than SF4.

lol just ran into LordPhol in a random ranked game. GG dude. take it easy on the HP wakeup shoryu's and jump-ins :p

Even in Hell the A.I doesn't know how to react to DPs? Theres hope for us all then...well us with DPs.

With the way SFV is being designed, I really doubt she'll come into the game with her SF4 shenanigans intact
(thank god)

Nah, I played Ibuki very differently than all the vids I saw, which I could always tell through playing anyway as even if I got beat, I always took a chunk of that first round early. Pretty much liked to play with space, counter what they tried to close in (neckbreaker, sliding MK, overhead, kunai, air throw or the double foot stomp) and then just get aggressive in the follow up.

Could always tell a player was getting rattled when random focus attacks happened all over the place, not realizing that neckbreaker is also armour breaking :lol

Good times.

EDIT: I thought Vortex was that command grab. Just looked it up and this is the first time I knew about it! Defo wasn't doing that all over a downed opponent.

I love Ibuki and didn't play that way. It was boring.

It wasn't the character, that was the game.

Yeah, only just saw it right now and that looks dull as fuck. Jump, kunai, do shit... Snore.

I just got to silver. This is what I feel like right now:

There will be a PC mod that unlocks colours, right? That seems like a super minor mod.
There`s already a cheat that lets you easily win survival in offline, but at the very least I guarantee there will be one where you can swap the defaults to the color of your choice (but on your opponents screen they will see the default)

Edit: There's already a few mods that give ryu and ken beards and change karin and mikas hair to black, so swapping the colors should be super simple.

Don't give up mate. I should really link you to a video, where a guy explains to you how you can feel like you have regressed since last week but in fact you have grown as a fighting player. You can player worse than the day before but as long as you are learning and practicing you might as well be progressing.

Up for some games?

I really wish I could set a character for casual matches seperate from ranked matches. I want to search for them both and I want to use Nash in ranked and Gief in casual, but that's not possible and that's stupid.

nay, my pc is an inch from the router so it's hardwired! just glad i can play, even if the game hard crashed on me twice out of four matches... at least it's progress hah

I haven't had a crash in 30 hours, so perhaps it's something with your installation
or I've just been lucky so far
.
A couple of things you can check is verifying the game cache in Steam (right-click on the game in your library, select properties, then local files, and then verify), and you can try updating your drivers, most importantly your audio and graphics drivers. Also, make sure that your OS is up-to-date, as IIRC some people ran into issues with the beta because they had not been running Windows Update in a while.

Finally, if the game is crashing every 15-20 minutes or so (it doesn't sound like it, though), then you need to turn off a particular touch-pad related service. I can look it up for you if that is the case.

I've got some time off work, not back until Tuesday now and other than some beers, not much to do. Might try re-learning the game from scratch and see how it goes.

PC players prone to being bots/tool assisted? Some really erratic movement (not lag) going on with some PC players.

Nope. Only thing they can do is alt+tab and make you feel laggy.

Game can also speed up if the netcode gets outta sync a bit, which also happens with that alt+tab apparently.

Even in Hell the A.I doesn't know how to react to DPs? Theres hope for us all then...well us with DPs.

It still requires a small amount of zoning and getting lucky. I actually failed the first time at level 59.

Birdie, Bison and Nash are the most difficult to fight in Hell mode. Just have faith in your DP's.

I love Ibuki and didn't play that way. It was boring.

It wasn't the character, that was the game.

It really wasn't the game. Like four characters had meaningful vortexes and they were only the top tier of the game in AE 2012.

Ibuki is the only character that had her vortex game left in tact after the jump to Ultra. Everyone else got fucked by delayed wake-up and had to play a more footsie oriented game than before.

I've started to try to be more defensive and watching others patterns then attacking, it's funny how people will have their go to move or go to opener and how easy it is to exploit when you stop and pay attention

Anyone else come across a Ken player online named Spoontz? He's rank 972 or something. I've beat him 3 times over the past couple of days and he's rage quit each time. He's a really below average Ken. Scumbag.

HOLY CRAP! Not only did I finally get 3 wins in a row, I've got a 5-win streak going! I seriously just always assumed I'd get to two wins, and then totally freak out. I wish I could say I was coldly and calmly kicking people's asses, but it's more I'm doing unsafe crap and no one knows how to avoid it (thank you, vacuum + SPD / CA). Somehow I beat a FANG when I have no experience with the character.

gief makes the funniest faces in the game

He also has the most cheerful win messages for some reason, and I find them amazing. Always complementing and/or seeming to offer sincere advice to the loser. I can't tell if he's crazy cheerful, or just crazy. I will never stop thinking his CA animation is hilarious. That freaking grin, man!

There's this silver rank Bison player called Tyrael or something, from France, who does the same exact thing. What a loser.

Agree with what magus said last night on twitter, for the top tiers being apparently so good, there aren't that many people putting in the work into them.

Thanks for the tips on survival hell!

Currently just beat level 50. I'm so SO bored! Almost lost on level 34 against Chun, who landed a combo on me into V trigger that left a lot of space between us.

Noted on the lp DP. Will spam if things start going wrong!

lol he didn't say she wasn't fun, but that her play style allowed her to ignore fundamentals, which was true. It was not fun guessing 50/50 over and over again on wake up versus Ibuki or el fuete. I'm sure it's fun for the offensive player.

everytime I get back up to super bronze, this happens I sware to god

Im the zombie :p

edit: oh a Ken rage quit, how...cute

Well I canceled my first M punch into a special, I don't know if I have the speed to play fighting games... What's the time on that like a 100 ms window? Is there anyway to find out this information, or like, the easier ones lol?

I started out Super Bronze today, then de-ranked and ranked-up again at least five times, and ended up pretty much with the same LP as when I started. It wasn't very productive, but I've had a lot of fun.
