Has Daigo been on any streams other than that fake thing? I need to learn how to play Ryu.

He has his own Twitch channel, he was there for like 6 hours last sunday but only played for a short while of it. He looked really unpolished and unfamiliar with the game.

Medium punch Fighter V: Punching Medium Edition.

Jesus. Medium punches are so op in this game. They do everything for you but make you breakfast.

Birdie
Ryu (omfg)
Ken
Laura

To name just a few where MP is just so gdlk with them. Birdies jumping MP is so dirty lmaooooo. It even crosses ME up when I am the one using it! I don't know what side I'm gonna end up on! And his St.MP...? Fuck! That shit hits so deep. So SATISFYING. Don't get me started on ryu....

Yo!! Ryu's MP is legit ridiculous.

He gave his opponent a mental breakdown.

That was definitely case where experience won. Snake Eyes made an adjustment and Futile didn't really understand what had changed and couldn't respond. From the third game of the first set onward it was a pretty serious mauling.

I need to learn how to play cammy better, even though im winning im spamming the hell out of aerial sparrow/cannon spike

- st.MK is your friend. Amazing for footsies.

- Quick Spin Knuckle close to your opponent when they're knockdown and you'll spin
around the other side of them. A lot of people don't anticipate it and it ends up connecting. You can follow it up with st.HP and either go into Cannon Spike, Spiral Arrow or V-Trigger. Don't rely on it too much though, of course!

- JAB JAB JAB! cr.LP as it's fast and adds to pressure. It's also great since you can lead into Lift Combination which can set you up for an special attack or CA.

saw a gif on twitter of a Vega normal making him invulnerable to Nec's v-skill lol capcompls

anyway, been thinking about the game a lot today after last night's awful performance, and people linking all sorts of training mode videos in the thread made me realize... I will never get good, or even decent at this game, because I have neither the time, and especially the patience to sit in training mode doing routines. That to me, seems like the sort of thing you do when you only play 1 videogame, so all you do is play that 1 videogame. Kinda like a mmo I guess. I'm not that guy, and ive never been that guy (kinda explains why I was always mediocre at fighting games I guess). I cant justify spending hours in training mode, thats not "playing" to me you know? Thats time I should be spending actually playing another game, or watching a show or something. I understand that is my own fault, im not in any way knocking the game for it, nor do I think you just magically get good without work, but I was kinda more under the impression / hope that it would come naturlly the more you played, and less grinding out against a training dummy.

I did learn that Gief's f.HP headbut eats fireballs when I was getting bodied by Omni last night, so I guess you do pick up things in matches :) Will most likely end up being something I watch and not play, as usual. Once again I was kidding myself when I said to myself "this is the one, this is the one where you finally get good at" lol

Her weaknesses became more glaring than ever today. She is going to need serious help when Capcom does their post-EVO balance update.

I think her buttons are really solid but she has some tough ass match ups. Characters that appear in a lot of top 5 lists like Dhalsim, Nash, and Birdie absolutely destroy her. She has trouble with big bodies in general, and her low health and bad defense isn't a good combo.

The 900 health are brutal since 400+ damage combos are pretty common in this game. You really need your optimal combos to fight that.
I also feel like they made her anti-airs weirdly unreliable. They are worse than they look.

Did you redeem codes from Volcanic edition for North American/non-Japanese region SFV?

Negative. The codes are region locked so you need a Japanese PSN account to redeem them.

So I'll just use my Japan account as an alt and the free Zenny to check stuff out in the store to see if it's worth getting for my main account. The EX colors you get for all the characters are some of the best IMO so it's a little aggravating that they're Japan exclusive for now.

Karin's anti air is still pretty bad. You got characters like Dhalsim, Chun Li, and Birdie who can pretty much anti air anything at all ranges with a single button. Karin has to completely take a well placed jump in. Her EX DP, s.HP, and c.HP will all whiff against people crossing you up on wake up.

Is this game region locked for online play?

I spent an hour playing people from the UK and the odd person from Germany and odd other place in Europe.

Can't you play again everyone on this worldwide?

Dont give up. Not everyone will be a beast in this game, the upcoming 8p lobbys will make myltiplayer sessions a more relaxed ones, hopefully Capcom adds decent single player content to make you motivated. Its very early still, some people learn faster than others but there will be a time when the skills are more or else set and you will have a less competitive, more relaxed session. Just stick around to exercise your muscle memory.
Just dont think to much.

You can, but if you just use matchmaking, they will more often send you people closer as it'll be a better connection. Use Battle Lounges if you want to play people further abroad but be warned, your connection may lag.

I second this approach. I have been playing fighting games since forever, and I don't consider playing in training mode (or dreadful training stage for that matter) really playing a game. I learn what I can in actual matches and make my peace with the fact I will never go higher than silver ranking (in SF5, or other medium rankings in other fighting games). I rather proceed to have fun in casual and lobby matches than doing an exam on a videogame, which long training sessions basically feel like.

Finally beat hard survival with Bison. GLORIOUS PURPLE IS NOW MINE.
Turns out the cpu cannot handle devil reversal very well at its various heights and angles.

Daigo's house looks like an art gallery and the Japanese players look like sophisticated literati.

American streams look like the cat dragged in some dudes who wish Ed Hardy both wasn't frowned upon and that they could afford it with their mom's allowance.

Wow, what a lifestyle. What artistry. The battle aura of the Japanese players is bursting beyond any limit.

Well that's supposed to be like that, how would you be able to anti-air on wake-up?
I think her cr.hp hits far in front of you, eventhough it doesn't look like it. Her st.hp hits mostly over her head which makes it hard to time, especially with its long start-up and even her EX dp you have to do low against opponents or it gets beaten.

it just feels like people can get a lot of free jump ins on Karin compared to a lot of the characters

nah I wont drop the game, Im just ressigning myself to the fact that Ill never be good at it. Like, ill give you an example. In theory, I should be in training mode right now right? practicing some Rashid combo or something, I dunno, practicing how to land that stupid charge at the end of Necallis combo because I cant put charge moves into combos to save my life.

Instead, all I want is to go play more Rise of the Tomb Raider right now. You know? And like, I know for a FACT that in a month and a half, my life will be consumed by Dark Souls 3. Im just that guy, hell, using Dark Souls as an example, I absolutely adore those games, and even those Im done with when I finsih them, like, im not that guy that goes back in for NG+ and shit. I never focus that much on one single game :/

Yeah but it's deserved after a knock-down. What's working well in this game is going air-to-air and dashing under jump-ins but you have to be quite ready for it. I'm trying to use it more right now.

What are Mika's best normals for when I'm in the neutral/for pokes?
I'm trying to avoid approaching with jump ins too much, but I'm not sure what moves I should use to either get in or to beat out opponents moves.

Currently I've been using MK because it moves me forward, MP for both the grab and that it can combo into HP, and LK for her target combo.

Also, what constitutes a jumping state? I've noticed that I can wingless airplane when I use the forward MP grab near the corner, but they don't seem to be off the ground as such.

My first ragequitter, yeah !!!! Guy didn't bother to go to the second round, thanks Original-Gangsta for not wasting my time more than necessary. EU peeps, avoid this fucker like the plague.

One thing I'm surprised that didn't get a lot more overhaul is additions to the Training Room. Granted seeing what we've got right now I guess resources were allocated somewhere else but it's always been a kind of directionless that requires the player to want to go in their and practice and more importantly know what to practice.

Why not incentivise it by having rewards in there for say little Virtua Tennis style mini games that help you practice, teach fundamentals and execution. Say how many rolling Blanka's you can anti air in 30 seconds (kind of a pallet swap for the barrel mini game). Why not have something like that reward you with alternative colours rather than the aneurysm inducing Survival Mode. Also something like being able to set training regimes for parts of your game you need to work on, be able to setup workout sessions with stat tracking to show you your progress, where your improving and where needs more work. Even have a warm up mode that let's you go through a couple of drills before going online. Massive missed opportunity that could really help everyone.

Do hope online Training makes its way back once things are ironed out a bit as that was a really neat addition.

Yep like the parry mini game on Third Strike

Just cracked 1000lp, was on a four ranked game win streak and come up against my first dhalsim ever.

I got my ass whooped. A good dhalsim is very hard to play against.

What is everyone's ranking? I'm at 1007lp and around 83000

You've got years to improve with SFV though mate given how long they're going to support it so I wouldn't worry about jumping in training mode and all that. If you want to play another game, then do it. Street Fighter is always going to be there.

I'm the same way really. I didn't touch SFV for a week because my friends wanted me to jump on Rainbow Six Siege and The Division beta and of course The Division comes out in 2 weeks so I'll be jumping on it again for a lot of time because it's a new game.

That said I still put in some good time with SFV this week mainly because I've been doing survival and choosing casual matches to improve and get out of bad habits without the stress of ranked matches and gaining/losing LP and so far I've yielded great results.

Oh yeah forgot about that. Though Challenges are coming soon they're still not hiding the fact they're 'work'. As always I can see some folks get to challenge number x and think 'that's enough for me'. But if you abstract from that and turn something into this goofy mini game that is actually teaching you execution and rewarding you for participation you might get more folks interested.
