Which film will be the highest grossing at the box office?

I'm gonna say Star Wars.

Which film will receive the highest critical acclaim?

Also Star Wars, maybe Civil War.

If they were all released on the same day, which would you go see first?

Batman v Superman

Which film will be the best received by GAF?

Civil War. TWS was okay and people love that movie, think Civil War (which I am excited about) will be GAF favorite like Mad Max was in 2015.

I honestly think GAF is gonna bitch about it more than Man of Steel, Prometheus and Bioshock Infinite combined.

This. The movie isn't even out yet and that is happening. Just imagine what it will be like after release.

- Sales: Captain America, BvS, Star Wars R1. SWR1 sounds lame as a fuck. I'm sure my hype will raise when I see the trailer, but wow is the overall story of the upcoming movie a snoozefest from the few tidbits I read. I'm thinking next year we could see similar TFA type of numbers, but I think there will be a noticable drop off for the stand alone movie.

- Acclaim: Captain America because of the Russo brothers. Same writers, same directors, same composer. Winter Soldier was by far the best Marvel movie and for the most part didn't follow the usual focus tested stat sheet that all their other movies follow. That it wasn't brainless fun as the other movies is a huge achievement in itself on top of being an amazing movie. BvS second though I can see easily being the worst, I'm hoping some better writing fixes the wrongs. R1 I expect typical Disney brainless fun, and therefore might not be the best on rewatches, but it's hard to gauge without seeing a single trailer. :\

- Well Received By Gaf: Civil War will be best received, as it will likely turn out to be the best one. Star Wars will be the second best received. Gaf hates Snyder for the most part, so I don't expect it to be #1 unless this movie is noticeably better by a fair margin over the other two.

- If all are received on the same day, I see: Batman V Superman. I've seen enough Marvel movies, so this is something special. Also when it comes to Star Wars, I'm not expecting some deep story based on the first movie even though it was fantastic fun. :)

Which film will be the highest grossing at the box office?
Star Wars Rogue One. It'll cement the #1 spot the moment Lucasfilm puts out a trailer that teases
Darth Vader
being in the movie.

Which film will receive the highest critical acclaim?
Captain America: Civil War. It's the Russo Bros making a follow up to Winter Soldier.

If they were all released on the same day, which would you go see first?
Star Wars

Which film will be the best received by GAF?
Civil War because contrarians will bring down Rogue One for riding on nostalgia or something.

Which film will be the highest grossing at the box office? Rogue One

Which film will receive the highest critical acclaim? Civil War

Which film will be the best received by GAF? Rogue One

BvS < Rogue One < Civil War financially
BvS < Civil War < Rogue One critically

You think Batman v Superman will be the poorest critically and commercially?

I think the film will play as the former, but will be marketed as the latter. I think the floor on Civil War is Iron Man 3 numbers.

The floor, or the ceiling? That would put it at $1.2 billion minimum, which is an enormous step up from Winter Soldier's box office take of $715 million.

Which film will be the highest grossing at the box office?

Uh... Batman v Superman

Marketing is in overdrive and its kicking out the summer blockbuster wave. Plus Superman and Batman have the most visibility with general audiences despite Marvel killing shit.

I don't think Batman or Superman have more visibility than Star Wars. Using the totally unscientific method of Google Fights, Superman vs. Star Wars comes out at 65 against 200, while Batman vs. Star Wars is 133 against 200, so even if you add them up you're still looking at 198 vs. 200.

Highest grossing? Batman v Superman
Highest critical acclaim? Civil War
Which would I go see first? Rogue One -> BvS -> Civil War
Best received by GAF? Rogue One

I think the big variable here is Vader. I think if Vader has an iconic appearance in a trailer and a somewhat virally hyped role perception leading up to the film, it could catch fire and really blow up

Cap Civil War all day every day.
Russo Bros, Spidey.

Yep. I see Bats v Supes having the worst legs of all three, and Civil War easily having the best. The Marvel Marketing behemoth hasn't even begun in earnest as yet.

In terms of reception, I'm going to assume Winter Soldier was no fluke. It remains the best of the Marvel movies thus far, and nothing I've seen from the advertising and preview footage leads me to believe Civil War will suffer any sort of sophomore slump.

The fact that I'm most excited about Civil War pains me a little. Batman had been "my" comic book character for as long as I can remember. Hell, I absolutely love Snyder's DOTD remake, and really enjoy some parts of Watchmen! But aside from the car and the suit, nothing about the movie really appeals to me. Contrast that with the excellent manner in which Cap's character has evolved throughout the MCU. Cap is easily the most three dimensional of any of the MCU characters. While the others serve mostly as de rigueur superhero archetypes, Cap reflects the audience, moving from patriotic boyscout do-gooder who implicitly trusts govt authority to reconciling and redefining that patriotism in light of repeated breaches of that trust.

That isn't even taking into account his transition in the first Cap movie, which I still to this day do not necessarily enjoy, but appreciate for trying to provide some depth to the character. Of all the known quantities in these movies, Cap's easily the most interesting, and the surest bet. Of the three, it's the only one I intend on seeing opening night.

You think Batman v Superman will be the poorest critically and commercially?

I think it's a wild card really but judging from MoS and other Zack Snyder films it could easily be the worst performing (but I do think it will make a killing.) I think Civil War will perform more like an Iron Man / Avengers flick than a Captain America solo movie. But who knows, maybe BvS can't really be judged based on Snyder's previous outings just because of the nature of two well-known brands coming together for the first time.

I don't think BvS is gonna turn out to be some critical darling like WB may want it to, but it could surprise in terms of box office take.

You think Batman v Superman will be the poorest critically and commercially?

It's the only one of the three that really feels like it could have the weakest legs. See: Man of Steel's reception plus BvS could crumple under the weight of trying to do too much at once for the DCCU.

I was way off last year, so we'll see. But for now my guess is that Batman vs Superman will come out on top. People are curious about Ben Affleck as Batman so that'll get them I. The seats to see what he does with Superman. I'd say Civil War is next, even though Age of Ultron was underwhelming Marvel still has a strong brand, and this movie seems to have a good shit at being liked by its audience. I'd put Rogue One last, a Star Wars side story just doesn't seem to me like it will have as much appeal as the other two, but there hasn't been a trailer yet so it's hard to say.

All of them will do really well though.

I should have specified that I was talking more superhero based but with your example that still isn't much difference.

I def don't want to write off the power of Star Wars because if Vader is in this then anticipation is going to shoot through the roof.

But there is still a general audience that is more inclined with superheroes than space operas. (IE, mom, auntie, and sister will probably be more likely to see BatmanSupes than Star Wars given a choice between both)

Highest grossing:

1. Civil War
2. BvS
3. Rogue One

Critical acclaim:

3. BvS

GAF Choice:

1. BvS

3. Rogue One

Batman alone will make bvs a killing at the box office. Critically, im excited but we'll wait to see as the reception to man of steel was mixed at best (thought it was okay but it seems people either love it or despise it). Civil war will make a hair more than bvs, especially as we get closer to release and a certain web head starts appearing in the marketing. Critically I think it will be as well received as winter soildier. Rogue one is star wars. It will make the most, I think it might be met with a mixed reception though as gareth edwards last big budget film godzilla was hit or miss.

Is the question about earnings limited to domestic, or are we talking worldwide?

Because I think its actually pretty possible Rogue One will make less than TFA, but have a proportionally larger percentage of international.

1. Batman vs Superman (best reviewed superhero film since The Dark Knight)

You think Batman v Superman will be more highly rated than (all RottenTomatoes scores):

Iron Man - 94%
X-Men: First Class - 87%
Chronicle - 85%
The Avengers - 92%
Captain America: The Winter Soldier - 89%
Guardians of the Galaxy - 91%
X-Men: Days of Future Past - 91%

The Dark Knight - 94%

We've had some damn good superhero movies in the last few years, and I think it's pretty bold to suggest that BvS will be more highly rated than all of them.

Yeah, that's crazy. Especially give the RT score of it's predesscor.

I think it'll be good, and do much better critically than Man of Steel given some very early rumblings I've heard, but I think the absolute best-case scenario they can hope for with this is an 85%. I'm personally expecting something in the 70-80% range.

I don't know... Civil War has much stiffer competition including another superhero movie just 3 weeks after it.

Granted, WOM will be the big thing for either film. But BvS does have a few weeks of flying solo.

Highest Grossing - BvS
Unless word of mouth ends up being REALLY bad, I see this one doing quite well. It's been a while since Batman's been in a movie so people should be pretty excited.

Highest Rated - Civil War
I have faith in the Russo Bros.

GAF Favorite - Civil War
This whole place is full of Marvel fanboys anyway :)

I was ready to answer Civil War for all four questions...but hold the motherfudgin' phone, Vader is going to be in Rogue One?! If that's legit, then I can see it taking the most at the box office. The presence of RDJ and MCU Spidey make it a hard one to call, though.

I'm not totally confident about putting Civil War as the most critically acclaimed, but I'm sticking with it. I think it has the most upside if the tone of the film comes across as well as they've described it, but I think runtime is going to be key. It's got a lot going on and there's a possibility that things don't get the time that they necessarily need to sink in.

I'd go see Civil War first but I wouldn't leave the cinema until I've watched all three! I'm super stoked about this lineup.

I don't think I've been active long enough to have a good grasp of the general consensus on GAF, but I hope it's a close call in a positive way.

If the rumor is true that
Darth Vader
will appear in Rogue One, I think Rogue One wins domestically at least. Batman v Superman and Civil War will be close, but I think Civil War wins worldwide. If Batman v Superman turns out to be a stellar film though, watch out Marvel.

Critically, I think it'll be close between Civil War and Rogue One. Not enough is known about the latter for me to feel confident in picking one or the other. I hope they're both fantastic.

If they all came out on the same day, I'd see them all on the same day.

So I'm thinking Star Wars hype is at an all time high and Rogue One will end up on top.

Rogue One > Civil War > Batman v Superman

BvS will have bad lets because I have a feeling it will review poorly and word of mouth will be negative :(

Civil War will be the complete opposite. 90%+ on RT, everyone losing their shit over Spider-Man, Spidey in teasers on TV... It's going to be nuts.

But Rogue One will just dominate in the Winter like TFA just did and come out on top. Once the Vader teasing begins... oh man.

Which film will be the highest grossing at the box office?

Star Wars, no contest. Episode VII was a safe, but amazingly successful first entry in the new trilogy. Tons of new fans on board, and the old fans are still into it.

Which film will receive the highest critical acclaim?

Star Wars. If Rogue One is anything like the Rogue Squadron novels, it'll be a hit.

If they were all released on the same day, which would you go see first?

Civil War. Gotta rep my boys Black Panther and Captain America.

Which film will be the best received by GAF?

Star Wars. Lots of people divided on Superhero films, and like I said if Rogue One does anything new it'll be a huge hit

Star Wars. If Episode VIII has a plot that doesn't parallel Episode V, it's going to be hailed as a great entry in the series.

Can't disagree with anything you said. I just feel as though this will perform more like a Superman movie with Batman in it, than a Batman movie with Superman in it. The marketing to this point has been a complete mess. Those presale numbers are far more about how iconic those characters are than anything Warner has done. Apocalypse looks like kind of a mess as well, and my guess is Civil War eats its lunch, too.

1. Rogue One
It won't be close
2. Civil War
3. Batman vs. Superman

I think BvS will start strong, but unfavorable reviews and reactions will really hurt the theater take after the first week or two. I think the exact opposite with happen with Civil War.

Captain America: Civil War to all questions.

Batman v Superman will be divisive and the most discussed on GAF.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story could ride the wave to the highest box office, but I'd be surprised if it was great.

This is the 2016 version of Malyse's Age of Ultron vs The Force Awakens thread. I'm going to ask generally the same questions from the last thread with one added question.
