I doubt it...

Bernie really has a chance now. At least, for now, it seems like it

I mean, if Sanders really turned out that many youth voters, that's a big deal.

Man, I wish there were statistics on how many people cast provisional ballots (due to registration errors) and their ages for the previous primaries.

It looks like everyone managed to get at least 100000 votes on the republican side for the Michigan primary finally.

Well, I think they're right in that her delegate lead increased tonight.

Well she is. She destroyed him in Mississippi which makes the Michigan tie moot.

I expect they're talking about how her delegate lead increased.

Well yeah her lead increase.

Yeah. I hit post early. So I don't understand why people still think that he's going to win. It's just not feasible.

Interesting analysis by Chuck Todd on MSNBC.

Basically, tonight's MI results reveal signs that Hillary falters among demographics for whom Bernie (and Trump) really resonate. So maybe someone like Julian Castro for VP is out and someone more Rust Belt/middle class-minded like Sherrod Brown is in.
I hope so because I like what I've read about the guy and Castro seems way too young (I know Obama was young... and still is all things considered).

If it comes to this, I may need to reveal some...information about how Mr. Kasich has effected my & my family's personal lives. It's not "McCain's Black Baby" level dirt, but I think it might be enough to knock him out of the general.

Uhhh...why would you sit on this info?

I've been saying this for a while. Against Trump a Castro VP pick would make absolutely no sense.

I've never understood this interest so many have with Castro. He just fails to excite me in any way.

It's really an impressive movement. And...yeah...the more zealous supporters can put out a bad image. That's unfortunately true for any group. :( Some of them don't just hate other candidates but hate the supporters of those candidates, and that's wrong. I have some friends who love Hillary, and when they saw how engaged I was in supporting Bernie, they started participating more in their own campaign of choice, and that made me feel good that they were inspired to take part in effecting change they wanted to see.

Yeah, it's pretty incredible to see it all happen. Hopefully the reputation of Bernie Sanders supporters changed to be more like you and less like the assholes.

can someone explain this vbulliten meme?

Sub 2% lead here. This is another Iowa. Great for Bernie to go past Mar 15th honestly, but aggregate wise is falling farther behind in delegates.

His biggest problems with minority votes, as most frequently cited, are his tone-deafness (which is largely perpetuated via social media) and his lack of addressing racial injustice head on (like #BLM does). Those are both issues that seem like they would resonate much more with younger voters.

Idealism generally plays better with young people. Older people just want someone who won't fuck things up too badly while they're around.

Where do they break down the black vote by age? I've seen it posted a few times in this thread that he's doing much better with younger black voters than older black voters, which I find kind of hard to believe.

I can tell you in Illinois it is a similar story in my friend group. One person chimed in that they supported Sanders while their mother was a Clinton supporter and then many others were stating similar stories. I'm the only one who is relatively undecided (In that I'm not sure whether to vote for Sanders for idealism even though he is poised to lose the state and nomination or vote for the winning candidate Clinton who is much more pragmatic I feel). I disagree with more than one of their policies and historical backgrounds so it is quite the challenge. Leaning towards Clinton though.

You know the media is being ridiculous when they claim she has huge problems when she's gonna claim the majority of delegates tonight overall.

THIS IS ALL THAT MATTERS.
It's all in the messaging. Bernie campaign and the GOP will spin this as "the tides are turning. Doubt the Clinton campaign want to deal with that message. Despite the delegate numbers.

CNN just said Hillary is closer to the nomination regardless.

She is. He'll pull a couple extra delegates out of Michigan, but her other win was worth far more, so she still ends up ahead.

I think the huge mistake in polling comes down to independent turnout in open primaries. They break so heavily to Bernie that given enough of them, he pulls ahead. Closed primaries will hurt this effect since independent voters can't vote unless they changed their affiliation, and those deadlines are far past.

Congrats to Bernie. I still can't believe he pulled it off, but he did.

No, the message from tonight is Hillary can't write off the anger with status quo, especially with middle class voters who feel uncared for, that Bernie's platform is resonating with.

That's absolutely true, too.

As for VP pick, and as an Ohioan, Brown is a great pick, but the problem would be who to replace him with. The GOP is absolutely gunning for his seat in 2018 and they have a ton of strong candidates to try and take it that Brown could fend off. But the Dem bench in Ohio is exceptionally weak outside of Brown and P.G. Sittenfeld down in Cincinnati, whose time isn't quite yet.

Thanks. :) To start I just contributed through donations and figured others would handle the data entry work and so on. As time went on I realized that this campaign is essentially run by people like me, and if I wanted to make a difference, I'd have to put my skin in the game.

Well, you have my respect. In many ways I almost view this as grass roots vs establishment, and I'm rooting for you guys. I know Hillary also has her grass roots campaigners, as you yourself mentioned your friends are a part of, but it can't be denied that most of the mainstream establishment is very heavily alligned with Hillary over Bernie, and that puts him at a monumental disadvantage. I just want to know that somewhere, somehow, big money doesn't and can't always just dictate the end result. I know you guys have a gargantuan task ahead of you, but credit to your hard work and efforts.

I mean, did you read that post and the post I was responding to? I totally stand by it. Decision Desk wasn't "grasping for attention" by calling the state for Hillary. They presumably genuinely thought she'd win it, kind of like every other analyst looking at the state did. This does make them look pretty bad.

Everything I posted is still 100% accurate even if Bernie wins the state!
