The Division - Review Thread

One ridiculous 6.5 and a 7 happened. That's basically it.

The game shouldn't be scoring under an 8 but that wont get the clicks going I guess. Need to make a statement on a hyped up game.

Hmm...people still post stuff like this in message boards.
I find it strangely nostalgic, like 2007 gamefaqs boards or something.
Beautiful.

This review is such a FUCKIN' JOKE!!!!

Don't make a review saying the games life is shortened - knowing that there's going to be DLC and expansions coming in the near future - and even if you didn't know - now you do because the one year road map is up, in which case this dude should re-evaluate the score.

Honestly I don't care about scores, but to say the game has a short lifespan hit a personal spot (don't fucking ask).

Essentially, I hate reviews anyway - so fucking subjective, god this shit makes me salty!

Thanks for the info. These were some of my concerns.

Just to correct something there, enemies cannot track your position behind cover. You do have to expose yourself for them to find your new position. Using cover-to-cover moves you can have an entire group of enemies firing in the completely wrong direction since they are still suppressing your last known location.

You review what's present. Not the promise of things to come.

This is one of those threads where people who don't like the game and like to see mainstream things fail get a boner over low review scores, isn't it?

S/he pretty clearly stated that their problem was with the reviewer saying the game was going to have a short lifespan.

But yeah, the meltdowns and some of the shitposts are really the only things worth reading in review threads.

I normally don't play Ubisoft games - last was Anno 2070 - but it's actually a really good game, and even though the graphics are not as advertised, they are among the best, especially in terms of object detail. Funnily enough, I played World in Conflict and that game was GREAT! Ubisoft Massive knows what's up.

I love the game thus far myself, but he's reviewing The Division. The base game. Not the expansions that are scheduled to follow.

No, it's the reaction to said lower reviews where some of y'all can't handle differing opinions.

More like the reaction of fanboys to the "low" review scores (If you can even call 6's and 7's low but whatever floats your boat). The salt is real.

I'm glad you entered a review thread so you could tell us how much you hate reviews

More like the reaction of fanboys to the "low" review scores (If you can even call 6's and 7's low but whatever floats your boat). The salt is real.

Well, neither side is really innocent. When the "low" scores came in, people jumped in to talk about how they knew that the game didn't deserve high scores and that they were right all along, which is pretty clear bait for the fanboys.

I can't even tell sarcastic and real posts apart anymore.
Many reviews are still missing, and these should be interesting because many of us are probably curious about the long term viability of The Division, with more than 7 days spent on it. (But looks like it's at least a <30 hour tight package)

I love the game thus far myself, but he's reviewing The Division. The base game. Not the expansions that are scheduled to follow.

Well if he was reviewing the game for what it is why is he so down on the enemies being bullet sponges, since when is that a problem? I mean it's an RPG, is Xenoblade getting points deducted because enemies don't die in two hits?

Based on the roadmap I'll reconsider buying the game in Summer. By then enough of the content would have been at least presented/implemented to justify getting a season pass (if I like the base game enough after hitting 30 + the expansion packs are worth it).

Plus I'll see if the game has any longevity by then. Win win.

da fuq am I reading

I'm playing it and enjoying my time with buddies on it.....but holy defense force and that avatar too.

I would actually rate it atm right now the same as I did Destiny a 7.5. It's a solid mediocre game. When they deliver updates it will get better but right now this feels no different then me playing Vanilla Destiny.

TTK bumped Destiny to a 9 for me....it truly was a fantastic overhaul with quests, a story that was straight through and easy to understand. Sure it sucks that we aren't getting much after but TTK renewed my faith in Bungie that once they fix/mature their toolset they can truly create some fucking unreal experiences with some of the best gunplay in the industry.

Right now.....I feel less connected to the divisions story even more then Vanilla Destiny....you know how easy it is to do a story better than Destiny's launch version? NOT HARD!

I killed the Cleaners leader last night and didn't even fucking know until after the mission when Faye or whats her name said something. I was like "seriously? He was just a bigger cleaner.......nothing made him truly stand out or feel like a big bad leader of the cleaners in the city".

At least you knew who Crota was, Oryx, Sepiks Prime.......I don't remember any named mobs in this game. They don't deliver a memorable experience.

Well I don't agree with the game being mediocre but are you honestly telling me you didn't know that Joe Ferro or Larae Barrett are the leaders of the Cleaners/Rikers or that they were the leaders when you were on the missions to kill them ? I'm honestly surprised as it's clear as day when you are on the missions to kill them. The game also does a lot of envionmental storytelling and you learn a lot through picking up echoes, phone recordings etc. One of them, which is one of my favourites, is where you hear Joe
giving orders to other cleaners for missions where you've already killed them lol.
I mean I can understand being disappointed that maybe they didn't have fancy boss battles with unique mechanics but I was never under any doubt that they were the leaders of the factions. Theres also echoes which show what a nasty piece of work Larae is and how she was able to rally the Rikers together.

I guess for me the bosses weren't anybody special, they are just evil humans doing bad things in a city gone to shit so killing them isn't anything special either. They aren't superhumans, they aren't roided up Bane like nutters, just normal humans like you and me. Sure the game also tells you how Joes wife was one of the first victims of the smallpox virus, something that lead to him being the leader of the Cleaner leading to his desire to rid the city of it no matter how misguided he is.

I guess for me I just really enjoy the mixture of the story, the environmental storytelling and collectibles which give more information on the horrible goings on within the city. Even the details in the environments you visit are cool as fuck.

This game has no personality, no character. None of the people who constantly talk to me are interesting or memorable. I found a cleaner boss in the mall and I had no clue what his name was.

It said shoot the fuel tanks but I could hardly flank the guy because he always knew where I was behind cover. The fuel tanks are barely visible from the front. The side missions design is tired (but there are A LOT of them) and the enemies type are tropes we played against for a long time. The charging/melee guy, the grenade guy, the pistol guy, the spammy bullet sponge guy. My only drive to finish the game is because I started it.

The only thing Destiny should grab from this game is the matchmaking. Divison did it right by matchmaking everything.

But this is my opinion.

Remember to use your grenades and your different ammo types to allow for flanking especially if solo. For example you have smoke/tear gas/shock grenades or if you throw down turrets from your skills it'll give you time to get in a flanking position and at least get a few shots off. Well providing that you've whittled down the numbers!

They do hit hard on solo but so far I've got to level 15 solo on the PC version and it's been at times hairy but not too bad. It's admittedly more fun with friends, always is!

Well, neither side is really innocent. When the "low" scores came in, people jumped in to talk about how they knew that the game didn't deserve high scores and that they were right all along, which is pretty clear bait for the fanboys.

For sure. I think the general consensus is that it's an ok game, nothing really bad with it and nothing great about it. The reviews that came out day one/two should have been viewed with caution because no one received review copies so you have to wonder how much time did these reviewers put into the game before giving it a proper review.

Ok so lets make fake reviews where we pretend all the DLC is already out and we're playing it right now. That seems fair.

He's reviewing the game based on what it currently is, not what it might be. Fucking relax.

Highly anticipated game with low scores is the perfect formula, so yeah. I guess you're right.

That is definitely better then.

Hate when AI in games knows where you are at all times behind cover.

I'm of the opinion that it's a great game with growing pains, all the meat is there, some of it just needs a little work. If I absolutely had to assign it a score, probably like an 8.5/10 with the potential to grow.

Games like this are fluid, so I don't think the right course of action is to assign a score at all, like how Destiny was a 7/10 that over time grew to a 9/10.

Well the review score is based on the base game not a 9/10 because paid expansions will fix said issues.

What are we supposed to wait to review a game now because of updates? No, we revise maybe down the line but the reviews are based on current conditions like they should be.

SFV didn't get a pass and this one shouldn't be any different (different cases yes, but I'm just using examples here of games with limited content)

..well somewhat incomplete - I could go on, but who fucking cares @ this point, right?

..and then somebody says, "you fucking care

Ok, I do care. because it's something I like - who doesn't defend something they like?

OK well ignoring the obvious here what exactly are you suggesting, that they wait a year to review it?
That we wait a year to buy it? Because everything you are stating here makes me want to pick it up on sale in a year.

I'm loving the game but i have to agree with this. The characters are bland, boring, forgettable. Typical ubisoft.

Like i said i'm enjoying the game. I really like the gunplay. It's fun to play with friends but it's not bad playing solo.
I think the main missions are very good. Some epic moments. Side missions are repetitive and some are just awful. I specially hate the one where you have to carry the briefcases and the one where you have to defend supply drops. They do not make sense. Why are the LMB shooting a supply crate?
And what about hostages? Why are they taking hostages? Cannibalism?
