The Division - Review Thread

Barely, it's essentially MMO Lite gameplay when it comes to aggro management. The most difficult aspect comes from dealing with players who aren't organized more than fighting a tough encounters. But the AI even at harder difficulty does not get smarter, they just get deadlier which makes mistakes more punishing. The encounters still are an exercise in tedium unlike more varied boss encounters that are actually fun like in most MMO titles.

Eh, that's just an opinion. Cover shooters are my favourite kind of shooters - it suits my playstyle, which is more cautious and tactical - so I enjoy the encounters in the Division a lot more than something like Borderlands.

Seems like younger people who play videogames are enjoying it, while older people who review games, don't as much.

Not saying age has anything to do with it, but a lot of teens to mid 20 year olds seem to be gravitating to it.

I'm having fun...it's a good game.

And there are people saying it's the greatest game they have ever played!

I believe RexNovis said something similar:

Dude that's not what I'm talking about. So i guess their opinion does matter and you've proven that fact and their opinion as IGN is from one person's opinion. It does matter that it's from a big site as we have threads like these to prove that they do.
I think the site having a big following, and their scores being important is all the more reason for the assigned viewer to give their honest opinion.

Yeah, I am really starting to hit the wall. The loot continues to be bland, stronger versions of the same weapons and I can only do missions featuring encounters with the same waves of enemies so many times. I have had some fun, but honestly the game is getting just plain boring. No legs at all for me.

Reads like a copy/pasted Destiny post from around the same timeframe.

LOL, I actually enjoyed Destiny far more. But like I said, I have had some fun with the game. I am just hitting a wall of boredom at only level 19. That is because the loot just plain sucks and fighting wave after wave of the same enemy types after 25 hours is simply not appealing to me anymore.

Same I am already done with it. Meh is how I feel about it. Should have not bought it oh well.

I like how you put words in my mouth, weird that's what you took away from that. I guess you're also stuck in you're opinion.

"Opinions are like assholes"

Everyone's got one.

Also upset and confused are two different things, plus IGN has been a joke for while. Where have you been? I didn't need a score from them to establish that fact.
Then what are you saying? Because you aren't making it very clear.
Like what could you possibly be confused by? Also, if ign is "joke" then why the fuck do care so much?

Hello peeps and peepettes.

My GF and I have been on the fence about this game due it being another MMO FPS.. (we played Destiny for a year and got burned out by the grind).

How is the end game? That's what's keeping us from diving in. We decided we'd wait a week or two to see how things would pan out.

Currently it's being beta tested by everyone that bought the game.

Its a TPS and currently there really isn;'t an endgame.

I am actually having a hard time even wanting to push to the end of the game. At least Destiny kept my interest all the way through. And even after I got tired of it and criticized the amount of content I still came back later because it is so fun to play and TTK offered more of a great time.

I knew from the beta that this wasn't really going to be anything special. Probably one of the worst Tom Clancy titles I have ever played, right next to 360 Double Agent.

Rainbow Six Siege, however is straight piff

Hi Kyne,

If you both liked Destiny, chances are you will like The Division just as much. The gameplay, while being similar, is also definitely different as it is much more focused on cover combat. This is a loot game just as much as Destiny is. The missions are fun are really varied when it comes to environment. Just expect the game to get repetitive as you keep playing, a bit like how a MMO or Destiny would be.

I personally got sucked in, just as I did with Destiny vanilla (prior to expansions). I love the New York map, even though I've never been there in real life. It is so, so freaking detailed. The game also reeks of atmosphere. Every environment and building have been carefully crafted. The police department feels like a real police department. Same for the hospital or the standard apartments. I think Ubisoft / Massive deserve some credits for this alone.

Some people are saying that there is no end game but I think this isn't quite accurate. You can certainly redo any of the mission on a much harder difficulty setting, allowing acces to better loots. You can also venture into the Dark Zone, which is really the place you want to hang around for the best loot. I personally have a blast trying to survive in this place, fearing that one of the player turns rogue on us.

Hope this could help you a bit with your purchasing decision.

Destiny kept your attention for a whole year, thats impressive, I say pick this up to tide you over till new content arrives on Destiny.

It seems The Division burns you out waaay quicker than that, though it makes a terrific impression at first instance.

Sometimes the devil you know is better than the devil you dont

Man I don't know about you guys, but that IGN review just kinda ruined the experience for me. I mean they are the ones, and the only ones, that truly dictate which games I play. I went on ahead and got this game and I was really enjoying it for a while, then all of a sudden BAM! I just don't have any interest in playing it anymore after reading that review.

It really sucks too because all my friends are playing it and they're going to call me a little baby if I tell them why I'm not willing to play it anymore. But you know what? Screw them because I value other peoples opinions, especially those of videogame media kings like IGN, and when IGN says it's an "okay" game then it's just not worth my time. I only play games that get a 9.0 or better on IGN anyway.

Seriously though, I was having such a great time and now it's ruined.

I can't play Rocket League on Xbox One with my friends either. That game only got 8.0... so f-it! I'm lost and don't know what to play with my friends now.

The honeymoon phase is real folks, it's why I never ever take first impressions seriously. I haven't grown bored yet, but I can definitely see that happening once I reach the end game. Hopefully that's not the case though.

I can see people getting burned out on this but I'm still enjoying my time with it, probably because I'm only playing an hour or two a day. The loot aspect is definitely the most interesting part to me, I like weighing out the numbers and choosing my strengths.

The problem lies with the type of game it is. A "real" gun can only be so interesting to shoot, so while messing with the stats is fun, the output you get from it in actual gameplay is not always apparent. In that sense, fantasy games in the same genre have a leg up because of all the crazy abilities and weapons you can get as you progress.

I still like this game better than Destiny overall though.

LOL, nice one. But many of us were feeling this way, despite reviews. I ultimately go by whether I am having fun or not, not what reviews say.

See, the way you do "crazy abilities and weapons" in a modern setting is by providing a very good spread of real world firearms and gear, their accessories and their behavior.

Troll post, but many people actually do think this way.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Based on the reactions I think we'll probably hold off.. Looks like the game is suffering from a lot of the same problems as Destiny except without the superb gunplay. Honestly I think PVP is what kept us going for a year.

Overwatch comes out in a couple of months so maybe we'll just play other non-shooters until then.

The reason Destiny had such longevity is because of the Crucible/Iron Banner and doing the raids a million times to get that full set of high level gear. This game doesn't seem to have either. I have no idea how it's going to get people to stick around longer than a few months.

All your whining about end-game would be justified if there was a monthly fee to play. There isn't.

I got my money's worth and will be playing for awhile.

You took the words out of my mouth. I got to level 19 last night and just the thought of having to do more of those dull, repetitive side missions so I can get to 20 and do the next mission ugh. I think once I've completed the main campaign I'm selling it. At this point I just don't care about the loot in the dark zone, the post game stuff or future dlc. Ubisoft really need to learn how to put more creativity and variation in their enemy and mission types.

It's been out for 9 days lol!

Your opinion, is more important than other's opinion. This applies for life as well. If you were enjoying the game, screw IGN, Jim Sterling, etc.
