X-men Apocalypse Official Trailer

I am not sure what sterile and serious tone got to do with each other but Nolan films had one thing that I feel is always more often than not missing in the MCU - Stakes or at least Stakes treated with some kind of seriousness. Compare the joker -Batman scene during the Rachel, Harvey sequence to the AoU ending. Even though AoU had way more people in danger I found it very difficult to buy into any of it. It just felt like just another generic villain doing just another generic thing with lots of bad humor ( its all in the swing...) that just undermines everything. I am not saying Ultron should have been as riveting as Joker but atleast treat the proceedings with some seriousness and gravitas.

Forreal breh. We got like cities exploding left and right in either avengers movie or man of Steel and none of them were even close to as tense as that whole joker interrogation exchange. And only 2 people (!!) were in trouble in that scene lol

People take Nolan for granted now because of some of his clunky script choices or that corny boat scene in TDK but he freaking takes many of these other comic book directors to school man.

Holy shit at all this negativity. Is every thread that's X-Men related this bad? Seriously in what way was the trailer bad, heck you could say decent, but bad cmon.

Posts like "the worst Superhero movie this year," makes me facepalm.

Like are you goddamn serious? At least watch the movie when it comes out before saying nonsense like that.

You know the most poignant scene in the entire MCU?

Fucking this one between two robots (one android, but whatever). That's fantastic and it's not even between two people. Why can't I get more scenes like this between the action and comedy?

A great scene. This is what I am talking about. More of this please!!!

Yup. The Harvey Rachel scene was awesome. Fully convinced me this was a villain that needed to be taken seriously and was not playing around. Ultron on the other hand was a joker all right but not of the Gotham variety. Damn even that corny boat scene was suspenseful enough lol and with the events preceding it I genuinely was not 100% confident that everyone will make it out alive.

I said in the Civil War Trailer #2 thread that this was the best scene in the movie. With Vision being the best thing about the movie.

The, "I was born yesterday," line are the type of quips Whedon should've strived towards more.

Looks great to me. Only thing that is missing is the belt. It almost looks like they ran out of funds while creating the costume lol.

Comic book movies are mindless entertainment, Nolan make a Godfather-esque Crime drama that just happened to use DC characters. Unless affleck goes the same route his movie will be mindless entertainment just like MoS and BvS or even Deadpool. Apples and oranges, Nolan shits on Damn near everybody else from a great height, but those directors wont go 10 miles near a Comic film

I will be disappointed if Lex is just another GOTG kind of villain or Jared Leto is just another villain. I hope that is not the case but if it is then I will be disappointed. Also regarding the bolded - It can be entertaining without being mindless. I am not asking for the skies here - just a villain that actually feels like a villain and not a parody of a villain.

Also Nolan did not just make a Godfather-esque crime drama that happened to use DC characters. He was fairly faithful to the source material he used as inspiration such as Long Halloween and Year One when he made BB and TDK.

The dude playing him probably has the most promising career out of any of the other young X-Men plus he's also starring in a Spielberg film soon. I wouldn't be surprised if he actually does become a money-making star.

I didn't actually realise it was Tye Sheridan.

As for these X Men films. The trailers always come off as awful but the films are enjoyable.

That is a blanket statement, not all MCU is like this. The stakes were felt during films like Winter Soldier and Iron Man 3.

TDK is overrated, the various Joker set pieces were instantly conjured like magic with little buildup, they just happened. At least you can see Hydra's or Ultron's machinations in motion.

Mystique delivering uplifting half time rally speeches? Yeah that's about right. The other two movies were pretty good, but this seems kinda garbage.

Looks like shit. I really hope all this capeshit starts to go away. We've had comic movies for like 10 years now enough is enough.

I don't understand this mentality. They didn't stop making other movies. If you hate superhero movies just don't watch them. To actively root that they stop making movies that many other people enjoy seems weird. Would you include The Dark Knight in the list of movies you'd hand-wave away based on having superheroes?

Going to be a crazy 2 months.

Batman V Superman, Rebirth News & Launch, Dark Souls 3, Civil War and X-men. I can't believe those are all 8 weeks within each other. Then Suicide Squad isn't so far off.

I have low hopes for eisenberg, so yeah.

But on the 2nd point, from my POV nolan stayed true to the source but didn't make a mindless comic film. he wanted a movie that would be remembered and it has. Its why no DCCU film going forward can touch TDK unless Affleck goes full Argo mode and makes it Oscar worthy

Indeed. Add in Daredevil tomorrow and it's quite a time to be a fan of these things.

I couldnt stop laughing. That looked bad. I'll still see it to have a final word on it but my expectations are buried under cement.

Do people say this about any other genre?

Also we have had comic movies for way longer than 10 years lol

I think so. All those mid 2000s bro comedys (American Pie, Van Wilder) overstayed their welcome and went away. Same shit needs to happen now. And by 10 years I mean successful movies. IE Iron man and the such.

I am not understanding the mindless part though. I don't think a movie has to be grounded to be a classic or be less mindless. I prefer Spidey 2 to TDK and I think it is one of the best films ever made and that is as over the top as it gets. Spidey 2 has humor but also has a great villain and scenarios that make me give a damn. I am super excited for an Affleck directed Batman though.

Movie looks okay. I do agree with a few posts saying this all feels squandered at this point. I feel so detached from this cast. I think about how I liked DOFP but never felt compelled to watch that again either. I also think about how much I disliked most of the BvS trailers/ads at this point but at least my curiosity is piqued with that one.

This looks so good. I can't wait. More hyped for this than anything else so far.

Sounds about par for the course. I remember DoFP trailer threads had reactions similar to this.

The Hangover? Ted?

Entire genres don't just disappear because some people don't like them. And there were successful superhero movies before Iron Man.

Yeah, fuck superhero movies, they saturate the market with their 2, sometimes 3 releases a year out of the thousands of movies I can go and see! Also, fuck romantic comedies and biopics. When will they stop making those as well?

I loved First Class but never got around to watching DOFP, but this trailer looks amazing. I'll have to see DOFP before I go see this.

If you think this looks amazing and loved FC, then DOFP might end up being your favorite movie ever.

I'm saying that Nolan wanted to make a film to stand the test of time, and not be forgotten 2 days later. Something that today's CBM directors mostly lack,

Worse than the Ghostbusters-trailer. X-Men movies are such drab affairs these days. They take themselves so serious and are boring as a result. They have dozen blue characters running around on screen at any given time and it's played straight to the point of drying paint. First Class stands alone as a really good movie among a heap of merely competent and one downright bad.

Does GAF not like FC or something? After the mess that was X3 and Origins, FC was great.

The CG looks...off. Nothing I've seen for this movie has me excited. Which is weird coming off of DoFP. What happened?

Special effects and all that jazz aside, I think my personal "problem" with this movie is that I'm completely indifferent towards pretty much the entire cast of mutants. I don't care about any of them, so I'm completely indifferent towards this entire struggle.

I mean, Magneto is cool, I guess. But the rest, sheesh.. I literally don't care who would win.

Not sure whether "GAF" likes it or not. I didn't hate it, but I don't think it was anything more than passable. I also think DOFP is way better and you'll probably enjoy it a lot then.

I mean, GAF is not a collective hivemind as is often pointed out. In X-Men threads we see plenty of people saying they like FC even more than the Singer movies. Personally I wasn't hot on it.

You hate superhero movies, but you're in a fucking superhero thread?

I should have made myself clearer. I don't want them to disappear. It's just over saturation at this point. Ted / The Hangover were spaced out a few years, with super hero shit we have been getting 5-6 movies a year / 2 tv seasons / 2 netflix shows / whatever else they can throw in the mix. The obvious solution on a personal level is to just not watch any of it. Which I've been doing. I went to see The Witch and got 5 superhero movie trailers back to back. It's ridiculous.
