When ever you go on a X-Men Apocalypse thread, people like to shit on the X-franchise as if X2, First Class, and DOFP were all shit.


DOFP was the best comic book movie of 2014, so I have faith this will be fine.

Oh yeah absolutely. Nolans Batman is on a whole other level. I actually kind of like the boat sequence.

And let's face it, outside of cap 2 and Spidey 2 none of them are particularly good action movies. So you take what you can get whether it's good humor (iron man 3 and guardians) or decent acting/character drama (xmen franchise, Hulk and TDK trilogy)

So yeah like I said, it has its problems with focusing on such a small set of characters but I still think the output has veered back towards being good for the franchise so whatever.

Everything about this looks terrible but I have faith in Singer. I hated the trailers for DOFP and that ended up being my favourite X Men film.

But were else would they take these complaints but the film's complaints? The fact that you use the phrase 'the exact complaints"means that everyone is identifying the problems that they have with the film or its trailers at the very least.

I don't get the impression that people are hating on this film just for the sake of it, every trailer has shown the same issues/weaknesses as the last meaning that it's entirely possible that these issues/weaknesses exist within the film itself and people can clearly see this.

Well, in fairness, the actual finale of TDK takes a huge dump on the entire MCU. It would probably take that universe ten movies to get that character arc out of Harvey Dent. That's how lacking in substance they are. They're Transformers for superhero nerds with the odd exception like Iron Man and Winter Soldier that try to do a little more.
 
X-Men trailers never get me super hyped, but the last few movies have been far better than the trailers let on. I like seeing them go a bit more zany with the costumes (thought that's only on the Apocalypse side) and we're getting back to the core X-Men team of Scott and Jean, so I know I'll enjoy it. Kinda weird how the X-Men outfits are very similar to the DoFP ones when the X1-3 outfits didn't look like them at all. Just add some yellow trim Singer, it's not hard.

p.s. Instead of this garbage, they should've stuck with DofP's style where most of the characters (except Magneto, for reasons) were just wearing regular clothes throughout the 70's timeline. This is just shit.
 
Nice trailer. I'm way hyped for this movie since DoFP was my favorite X-Men yet. I think it will end up overstuffed and not nearly as good as DoFP, but if they have the balls to end it with a transition to
Age of Apocalypse
then I might have to pull one of these:

Dent's character arc is just a man going crazy overnight following a trauma. Nolan didn't even touch on the most interesting aspects of the character like his schizophrenia. The only worthwhile arc in that trilogy is Bruce's.
 
I'm confused on the timeline here. DoFP took place in 1973. I thought this was supposed to take place in the 80's, right? So, 10 years later. But judging by Quicksilver's look and situation, it appears to take place like a year later.

It's the same "everything they've built..." line. In the trailer, his voice is so changed that I honestly did not understand what he said. The ad bump that happened after the trailer it was much more clear.

Voice modulation probably not complete when they cut the trailer, not like it's a major problem or anything.

Same thing was going on with Ultron when some clips had a totally unfiltered voice and others were modified.

I would not wrack your brain over this too hard lol, it's basically impossible for Xavier and Erik to look like they do in this movie and then turn into Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan by the time X-Men 1 rolls around.

Don't think too much about it. They kinda fucked themselves in ever bringing this cast into the current time line or even the 90's. You can't keep jumping 10+ years every movie when the actors are only aging 2. They're going to have to do some kind of time travel shit to get them to the 2018 or something.

Yeah honestly don't know X-men has the best track record when it comes to mainline movies of probably any comic book franchise IMO. I think a lot of people think the same thing, so idk where the negativity comes from. I think if anything it's because they take too many liberties from the comics? Idk.

Personally I think this looks like it'll be fun. The CGI seems hit or miss but acceptable.

Eh, you're definitely right, but superheros in comics barely age after 50 years, it's not exactly my number one concern.

Jlaw being centre stage has been clear as day since the last film and the first comicon trailer, the costumes have been shown since comicon trailer etc..

I don't see why every new trailer thread the same people have to keep raising this again and again as if it was expected to change from the last trailer to the next one.

Gets dull when you can't talk about the film since the same people come jumping into the threads head first ready to dump on all things Xmen.

It seems people are upset because the trailer isn't as good as BVS or Civil War. X-Men trailers have never been that great aside from the final DOFP trailer.

There are some legitimate complaints -
-Mystique being too front and center
-CGI still doesn't look too good but trailer CGI generally isn't that hot compared to the actual film
-Black costumes (it looks like Mystique and Quicksilver get a costume change, so the black costumes might just be a first round thing anyway)

and then there are the same hivemind complaints from people who want to shit on it before looking at it, mainly "Apocalypse = Ivan Ooze lolololol amirite?"

Yeah. Kidnapping and threatening to shoot a guy in the head in an alleyway for info days before he even gets captured by the Joker. None of that shit was overnight.

No kidding.

I see how deep The Flash TV show is reaching into Flash comics, wide and far, and it's only in its second season. It wants everyone to have a costume, and their comic book name no matter how silly or cartoony, and adapt all sorts of stories or situations from the comics all across its history.
Or how far across Marvel comics history the MCU is reaching between its movies, its ABC TV shows and its Netflix shows. They've made strives to make a massive universe on screen and seem to want any and every property they have to eventually get its own corner of the MCU.
Those two properties are proud to be comic adaptations and its creators seem eager to dive as far as they can into bringing the comics to life with no hesitation or looking back.

They're not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but compared to the extreme surface level adaptations the X-Men movies are still stuck in after all these years, they're a godsend.
The X-Men films are adequate, a few are even really good, but they're so damn shallow as comic book adaptations. It feels like they've still never evolved from that testing the waters approach of X-Men, all the way back in 2000.
 
Looks great, except for Jlaw being choked at the end.

Stryker appearance makes me think we are getting a short Wolverine scene

Thanos might be very comic book looking, and maybe you don't like him being CG, but he does look like a beast and because he's animated he can look very close to his comic book counterpart.

It's difficult to communicate the difference but Apocalypse doesn't look like Apocalypse, he looks like a guy in blue makeup. Thanos looks like Thanos.

I haven't seen the movie in years but I don't recall any hints at psychosis prior to his injury.

Wasn't that all an act though with the double sided coin? I didn't see how that shows he was already nuts. Besides, the whole point was that he was a good guy before he was driven mad. He's no more maladjusted than Bruce in any case.

It feels like this movie shoehorned all these characters in b/c "its the xmen!" and "everybody loves these characters" and "we mentioned these people in DoFP and First Class, so bring em all back" rather than to actually make them relevant and developing characters. Like, why is nightcrawler here again?
But once again, this is just going off of the trailers. As someone who has enjoyed X2, FC, DofP and can tolerate X1, X3, and Wolverine, I easily have a lot more faith in the actual filmmakers than I do in the marketing dept so far.
 
The hate this movie gets...jeez.

Still more excited for this than any other comic book movie. Singer is all I got left from The Old Guard ;_;

Unless Nolan goes on a Wachowski-esque bombing spree for the next 10 years and is forced to do a DCU movie.
 
The footage itself doesn't stack up to what we saw in the lead-up to Days of Future Past, but it's still too close to call. Not digging the Coldplay cover at all, and Mystique increasingly sticks out like a sore thumb... but I still think it's unreal that Singer's back directing X-Men films. DoFP served as a nice, nostalgic counterpoint to the MCU - hopefully this will too.

PS,

I'm loving the fact that this trilogy is more or less composed of different plays on genre (espionage, science fiction/time travel, disaster movie).

Most of the ultra-big imposing characters like Thanos/Apocalypse/Darkseid look stupid.

Thanos does look like comic Thanos more than Apocalypse looks like comic Apocalypse. Neither look great in live action.
 
I'm still questionable with Apocalypse's design and overall look in the trailers, but I'm excited to see how they handle the new/young X-Men set in a specific time period.
 
This looks okay, but i wish they'd lean into the 80's era vibe more than they are. Like, we've all seen the set pics with the 80's as hell street clothes and JUBILEE. Show some of that stuff.

The black battle armor looks out of place for that time period, no? It hardly looks any different than the future-armor the X-Men wore in DOFP.
