It took me 5 years to finally get past the Lakebed Temple because of the slow start but I finally beat the game with HD version, and I'm glad I did. The second half of the game is stellar and overall I was hooked, which Made me think... This game is a bloated mess, but it may just be a masterpiece nonetheless. Like the White Album, which is also a bloated mess, it has genius ideas around every turn. On White Album you have Bungalow Bill, Why Don't we do it on the Road, and plenty of other filler, but for every bad song there is a brilliant one that follows. Twilight Princess is similar. For every bad design decision, there is a brilliant one that follows. The dungeons in this game are so consistent and creative that I just couldn't wait to see what was next and the game kept on giving. Arbiter's, then Snow dungeon, then light rod, and then Spider-Man in the sky. Every time I was in a dungeon, I was never bored or wished I was doing something else. There is a lot of genius in this game but there is also a lot of junk.
The wolf tears section, the awful economy with millions of rupees, the easy combat difficulty (I played normal mode to start with), the segmented overworld that left way too much empty space and other pacing issues. All of these would break every other game, but this game has so much going for it that it comes out on top. The White Album has a lot of filler, but when I think back on it its one of my favorite albums and TP may turn into that for me. Tons of filler, but gosh it may be one of the best games I've played in a while.
Can a game have so many terrible parts and still be considered a masterpiece?
