Dark Souls III [Import OT] Kindle the fire, one last time

So I prefer to start these games as a deprived but I don't want to be stuck with a club for a long time. Can anyone tell me how quickly I can find some dex weapons to switch to?

Yeah, I just need to get better at
Having enough estus/hp after phase 1

For Phase 1
I just focused on the main guy, found getting him down ASAP was better than kiting them and letting the 3rd guy kill him
. For Phase 2
He has 1 combo he likes to do quite often, 2 spinning hits, then a jumping spinning attack, if you're using a high phys/fire block shield, block the first 2 while backing away, then when he jumps, just walk forward, he'll land opposite side of you and you can backstab easily.

You can get an
Uchigatana
immediately after getting to Firelink, 16 or 18 dex I think though

It's really, really good. The combat system is a straight up improvement compared to the other Souls games (and I actually prefer it to BB's), the level design is very good and very consistent so far from what I've seen (10 hours of gameplay), and the bosses and enemies still manage to surprise me even though it's the 5th game in the same style. The enemies and bosses also have more complex and fleshed out movesets than in any other game in the series.
A few old bosses make a come-back as mini-bosses and the changes in moveset are very apparent.

The way I handled the first phase was to hit the boss as fast as possible until the second guy joins in. After that I ran around until the hostile guy woke up. I then used the opportunity to kill the boss' ally before wailing on the boss while he's busy with the hostile guy.

I'm actually quite surprised how well I'm fairing with the JP version. I'm not even using the translation resources and I'm making good progress. But yeah it's a weird decision, especially in this day and age.

Am I supposed to be taking about 50% or more per hit or am I missing something.

I started as Herald, so it looks like I have a healing spell, but I can't use it yet?

Edit: One more question, which involves spoilers I guess. In the original Demon's Souls you could easily follow a strength or dexterity route and expect to find weapons as your progressed through the game that focused on that stat. But I don't remember Dark Souls I being as generous. Should I make a point of attempting to get my strength up for the Halberd or are there dexterity weapons out there that I am likely to find?

I guess I want to know the answer to this question:

Are the katanas any good? Is there a nice selection of them?

Look what I found (I guess I'm not the first)

...the small guy on the right.

Miyazaki loves Berserk, once again. :)

I just gotta say, the music in this game is hands down the best in the Souls series since the original Dark Souls. DS2 was a huge letdown for me in terms of its soundtrack. A lot of it just seemed like generic filler. In DS3, every boss theme (so far) has a "quiet" theme at the beginning of the fight, but once you get their HP down by half or less, the music goes all out with the loud vocals and choir, much like DS1.

I know Bloodborne had a similar mechanic for some bosses but it sounds much better here IMO.

Yeah fuck A
byss
W
atchers
I can't get ANYWHERE in this fight.
I can't even get to the second phase half time due to the shitty randomness of the helper.

Never fought any boss in this series that expected this much from me. Like, come on.

just fought
abyss watchers
for the first time and died, but I think it's pretty easy, especially phase 2, I went into that with 1 estus after exploring and just kept chain backstabbing, got combo'd to death when he had 1/10th of his health left.

Co-sign on the combat, and preferring it over Bloodbornes. It feels like a faster and weightier Dark Souls, which makes it the best combat in the soulsborne series for me.

Another great thing for me is how they've handled the pvp, you don't need to be embered to invade but if you die as an invader you drop your souls where you died and not where you used the orb, so you can't just invade at a bonfire and be completely risk free...unless you invade when you've got no souls. Still, good change.

Matchmaking is quick and reliable, i'm yet to have a failed connection.

Everyone can use the full Red Eye Orb as it's not tied to a covenant, good change.

The blue sentinals are active, at least for now. Given you can switch covenants on the fly now i've had it equipped whilst exploring, and you invade with a separate set amount of estus from your own so you can heal in an another world without being left bare when you go home.

Kicking guard break is back, one of the best ideas in DS2.

Weapon arts > Transforming weapons. Believe.

TLDR: pvp delivered. From did good.

Any general consensus on the difficulty so far? Harder? Easier? Comparable to any other games in the series?

in line with the other games for me so far

they're all roughly the same difficulty wise depending on experience as far as i'm concerned

i hear the difficulty ramps up further on though

defeated the
abyss watchers
and now i have an issue because i don't know which of the two boss weapons I'd rather create

I have seen that awesome weapon art for the
farron
sword so i'm leaning towards that

The introduction is easier than Bloodborne imo, although the third boss
plant boss
is stomping on my melee build. I would assume that casters have an easier time with that one, though. Everything up to that point has been quite easy. 100% physical reduction shield is available super easy.

Is it me or is this game kind of difficult to play without a shield? I'm trying to play with a 2-handed claymore because I recently used the same build in DS1 and I find it a lot harder.

In the
Cathedral of the Deep
. Also I'm pretty sure the
small doll just dropped off them when I killed them.
. I didn't have it in my inventory before the fight but I do now. Any hints on where I should be heading after killing them?

In the swamp area you have to snuff out the three braziers. Opens a new area.

How does the game feels in terms of size and content compared to DS1 ?

Bigger so far, a bit grander in scale as well maybe although that's a much closer call. The first non-tutorial area i'd say is about the size of the whole Undead Burg (including the lower section) and the Undead Church. The second area is even bigger, more comparable to the Forest section in Bloodborne. The following 2-3 areas are smaller and more interconnected though from what i've played.

In terms of content it's much like DS1 and 2, i.e there's a lot. Weapons, armour, items, NPC's etc.

do we have an estimate on how long it is? i prefer shorter games, that's why i liked bloodborne, i was done with the story in 15h and then 2-3h more for the optional bosses (excl. chalice stuff, i didn't like that). would be cool if it is around that time.

wow, with the silver serpent ring on I'm getting 20K as a summon for fighting the
abyss watchers
which takes like < 5 minutes

think I found a nice grinding spot here

Seems to be on the shorter side.
