I think it's been said that Wright had wanted to make an Ant-Man movie much earlier than that though (TWE came out in 2013), that might be what Hystzen was referring to. MCU getting off the ground was when he finally got the chance to start the project with Marvel Studios, but production stalled due to creative differences (with Wright intending Ant-Man to be more of a stand-alone film; and Marvel axing some characters), leading to Wright eventually walking off the project.
At least from my observations that's what reportedly happened. Honestly, the whole scenario as to what happened still seems unclear.

None of it was good. Not the first act, that was completely ignored and left unresolved, nor the second act that turned into pikachu lightning bolts seizure inducing CG crap.
The more I think about the movie the angrier I get. I'm not going to see a proper World's Finest movie in my lifetime.
I love, LOVE, Marvel on Netflix. Way more than the cinematic universe.

Which is why I roll my eyes when people take digs at Marvel being too light hearted. The fact is, Marvel knows when it is appropriate to leverage dark/gritty settings and characters. Like you said, there are things in season 2 that you will probably never see in a DC movie. It's the same Marvel making these two vastly different products.
Indeed, Marvel doesn't sugercoat the Punisher and I was actually amazed by that. I liked how other characters are disgusted by Frank and how it fits in his character arc. The violence made sense in its context. I was disgusted at times, but that was definitely what they were going for.

The Marvel on Netflix IS the Cinematic Universe. It's not some seperate universe. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage exist in the same universe as Captain America, Iron Man, etc...
I know that. What I meant to say is that I enjoy the universe on Netflix platform more than I do the movies or that ABC show I never cared to watch.

I really like American Alien. Landis is clearly having some fun with the character without worrying about continuity. I think part of the negative criticism towards it is because he takes some liberties using other DC characters but I think it's a fun, humanized interpretation of Clark.

add to that the weirdness of there being two different levels of MCU TV stuff: You've got the ABC shows and the Netflix shows and those two don't talk to one another at all but both refer to the events in the movies. though obviously the ABC stuff is much more directly tied to it than the Netflix stuff where they really just pay lip service to the MCU stuff and that's kinda it
I prefer it the Netflix way, really. I thought the weird AoS stuff in Winter Soldier didn't really need to be in the movie at all
From what I've seen Marvel are slowly building up the tv side of their universe like they did the films. Let it be its own corner of the universe, build up the characters individually in their own solos before crossovers become the norm.
Smart way to do it imo. Just takes time.
The Defenders could appear in either Infinity War movie or at least the sequel.

Yup, they are taking the film strategy and adapting it to the TV shows. Develop characters first, then make them a team. You don't just toss all of then in together and hope it works. It gives audiences familiarity with the characters, their personalities and how they would interact in certain situations even filled with different characters around them.

Oh I know all the Netflix stuff is going to cross-over, but I'm saying. The shows, especially Shield, make constant references to the films and yet I can assure you that it'll be a long time before we even get a reference to what's going on in one of the TV shows, in one of the films.
