I can at least confidently state I liked this movie better than the Robocop remake. Holy hell I hated that movie.
That shit doesn't even begin to touch Bruno Mattei, or some of the shot on video shit I've seen. Do you even own a vcr? I swear people have been so cinematically sheltered since the death of video and the rental store that they have such a skewed sense of good and bad. Only about half of the films released on VHS have been released on DVD, and only a fraction of those have been released through streaming.
No haven't had one for years, god I don't miss that technology, good memories though. Getting copied over tapes of anime from friends in high school was the shit. Seeing Angel Cop the best kind of over the top 90's shit I can remember. Did MST3K ever do a Bruno Mattei movie? I know they did some of the Italian scifi stuff.

Ant-man performed what marvel expected. It did better than they thought it would.

It did not underperforming. Age of Ultron underperformed compared to its predecessor.

But both made their money back.

this is important to keep in mind.

There was nothing wrong with the film. You didnt like it and maybe those in your social circle didnt like it. But that means nothing as there are plenty of people who did. I swear people on gaf (and other sites) thinks that their small internet echo chambers counts for "everyone".

Because your average movie goer actually cares about that or even knows what that is?

~30% for critics is not an Internet echo chamber. It's been discussed at length that for most movies and legs, reviews matter. Put your sword down.

Will BvS beat Deadpool's domestic total at the end? Will BvS be able to make more than 100 million over Deadpool's worldwide total at the end?
Of course it will. Not even a question. Not to do so would mean twilight level legs or worse. Not goin to happen.

I don't understand why people root for films to flop. You realize that peoples livelihoods are tied to the success of these films right? It's not all about the actors.

Some of you act like children - it's tragic.

Not sure how many films you have worked on but when the movie is done 95% of the people are basically unemployed till the next movie. There are very few full timers working for the studios.

Grips, stagehands, boom mic operators, set photographers, assistants and the rest of the behind the scenes crews are unsung heroes.

That's the thing. Even if a film is a shit product in the end, it still gave hundreds of people a good job for a few months.
And even if the movie is bad, if those people do a good job behind the scenes and get good connections, they can land more jobs easier and not have to be out of work for too long.

Low men on the totem pole are lucky to stay a week on the same set.

My brother spent 3 days working on Suicide Squad before they were done setting up scaffolding and whatever else they had him doing for a particular scene. After that it was off to work on some shitty CW shows. After that it was back to his day job.

That and you really can't blame a stagehand for a movie being bad...unless you're Christian Bale on the set of Terminator Salvation.
Devilfish
That ep on youtube or Amazon Prime?

And even if it is a regular gig, they may not need you one day and you don't know until that morning. My brother does a lot of extra and stand in work and frequently has to rush to a set if they need help, or just doesn't get work for days because they move onto filming something different.

Part of the reason why i bailed out of the TV/Film industry and changed careers and now i have a fulltime job. I couldn't carry on and be part of it's 'who you know' industry and not know when my next stint will be. Best choice i have made but i have seen friends not as wise and are still trying to chase that dream and not get anywhere well into their 30's now.

I like how Allegiant is out in almost 80 territories and is already making less than $10M for the weekend.

Foreign distributors got a raw deal on that one. It's looking like Allegiant will come in at least $100M below Insurgent, and Insurgent didn't exactly get the bump they were looking for.

Netflix/VOD only release for Ascendant is looking better than better!

One of my coworkers kind of wishes she chased that dream, but she's got a steady paycheck and her job still allows her to do video editing and stuff like that. Some people just want to pursue their dreams.

Shit editing can cause confusion, and fuck up the pacing and flow of a scene/movie. So yeah, it does matter. The movie is fucking dumb, and tries to be more philosophically deep than it actually is.

At least Marvel seems to realize that: a bunch of grown ass muscular dudes with "powers" running around in tights is a bit silly, and shouldn't take itself so seriously for 2 and a half hours. Nolan movies found the right balance with this tone, yet this movie comes off as depressing, lifeless, dull and dry. I have no interest in its world, and I don't care about ANY of the characters. Not even Batman who was one of the films highlights.

Then whenever the movie did try to be funny, it fell flat and instead was funny when it wasn't even trying to be. Lex might have the worse dialogue every written for a comicbook character in a movie, barring the true atrocities like the Catwomans and F4s.

This is a bit OT since there are plenty of threads addressing the quality of the movie and not its financial intake, it's just odd to see how much people will spin the whole "opinions don't really matter angle." What a great argument that this movie is good and that the critics and those that dislike it are mistaken...

Not really my thing, but I can at least understand the appeal. He gets super excited when watching the Suicide Squad trailer and seeing his set in there for a second or two. But if Toronto doesn't have something major like that going on, there's only the TV gigs, and most of those are taken up by people who are full union members/regulars. Pacific Rim 2 going on hiatus 2 months before they were supposed to start shooting basically meant 6 months of factory work for him.

Sounds like he likes seeing his accomplishments brought to life on screen to be utilized and appreciated, which is something I can get behind and relate to. The "when's my next paycheck" scenarios are something I can't get behind though. And with set building it's probably hard to find a reliable job that marries that job into something else. I love taking pictures. I think I finally managed to get my job to allow me to be an event photographer for them. I hope he enjoys the factory work.

Well guess I'm a fanboy then. I liked it and my friends liked it despite its visible flaws lol.

It definitely isn't the "worse movie ever" like seems to be the consensus reading some of the reviews. there are far worse movies than this one. At worse its a slightly below average movie.

Yeah I'll admit that I launched into hyperbole on that front. I mean it's not great, but at the same time it's not shit. I mean it's not an Uwe Boll movie or Mortal Kombat Annihilation or Spawn the movie bad or anything. It's no Spawn the Animated Series, but that's just my take on it. I'd probably lump it in around Iron Man 3 levels. It's definitely nowhere near as bad as Xmen Origins, Daredevil, Green Lantern, Blade 3, Xmen 3, Catwoman or Elektra.
So it's just like every other live action batman movie then
But none of those Batmen have stabbed a dude in the chest nailing him to a wall in the process though.

At worse its a slightly below average movie.

Of the films that actually had scores, 67 of the Rotten reviews on Rotten Tomatoes had the equivalent of a 5/10 (ie, 2/4, 2.5/5, etc) or at least a C- for letter grades. Adding in the fresh reviews, that's close to 55% of critics giving the film at least a 5, not even counting the fact that dozens of reviews don't have grades.

Doesn't that gel with slightly below average?

Basically, the majority of RT critics agree with you.

How exactly am I a fanboy? Such a garbage generalización. No one is getting "defensive", im enoyed when any movie that isnt that bad has people trying to make it out to be that everyone hates it because of what crítics says or what their friends " or people i went to go see the movie with" say. As if that gives them validation as if its an absolute truth. And when people like me say they enjoyed it,you have these same people try to make us feel like we are the minority for liking it (when there isnt any relaible stats on that yet) or that we have bad taste.

Guys, average moviegoers don't care about things like the arrangement of scenes in a coherent order.

That kind of stupid shit is for snobs and assholes. I'll watch a movie and set the blu-ray to random just to show motherfuckers I don't need their stupid rules.

I'd love to know how this would work with watching Memento, Pulp Fiction and The Crying Game.

No one is hurting you because you like a movie. You're fine if you enjoy it. Just don't complain when other people don't.

I don't get why even the biggest DC fan is rooting for a movie of this quality to make a huge profit.

You'd think people would want studios to put some care into the quality of their output, it's not like we are at a state in the industry where you have to suck up whatever garbage the studio puts out because it's that or nothing.

Superhero movies are a giant business now, they aren't going to stop making them if a few underperform. On the other hand, if the studios start thinking that can just toss any piece of shit on the market and it will sell just because of the logo on the poster, then the genre might be in trouble.

Sure you can make a boatload of cash following the bayformers model and just shovelling shit onto the screen, but that is not a sustainable business model for the long term. Eventually the audience will catch on(transformers has already passed that point domestically), and that's when the superhero movies stop being made.

Nope I liked it

It's nice that you're okay with them breaking the one moral rule that Batman had. You know, the one that kept him from being essentially Joker (the whole point of The Killing Joke). Not to mention he always tried to reason and help the criminals, like his father tried to help and clean up Gotham. It's why Joker wasn't strangled by him Day 1. Fuck even in TDKR when he was "too old for this shit" all he did was paralyze him. He couldn't bring himself to do it. But, who cares about all that nonsense!

And while it was in all the other previous movies, doesn't mean it's okay to do (like Snyder's dumbass said). I've gotten over it myself purely because I know the directors who take on the role generally don't give two shits about the character and will do what they want. So I accept it because I'm tired of throwing my arms up. The only film to do Batman right was Mask of The Phantasm. Still "liking" something that literally destroys the character is just weird to me. I can understand accepting it as a losing battle, but actually liking?

But to each his own I guess.

Yup that's what I said earlier. Allegiant will be a loss leader in Lionsgate's books.

They should partner up with Netflix and be done with it. Split the budget half/half and release the film simultaneously (online, ott, vod).

That will at least enable Lionsgate to profit of the last film of the franchise and maybe give them time to work fine tune the script.

A $100M drop-off though, pretty steep. Its obviously related to Kate Winslet not bein part of the last entries ;)

I am genuinely curious to see what they do with that last movie. I mean I'm not sure they can do a full scale release for it can they? It has no traction or demand.

I guess maybe if they brought the entire budget including marketing down to like 50 million or so?

Because WB is the type of company that throws out the baby with the bath water. The financial success of MOS and critical reception got Goyer out, albeit very slowly. If BvS fails so does the DCEU and would probably be shelved for a decade. Thank goodness this is not the case.

Welcome BvS RT thread refugees.

I know that Duckroll promised you dick measuring, but that won't properly start until the beginning of May.

Yeah, my buddies and I all liked it. Hell, the entire theater I went to was completely full, and pretty much everyone clapped at the end in classic Americano fashion. I hope the film continues to do well at the BO, I'd like to see future films.

#DickMeasuring

I'll just toss out that I'm the $200M OW bandwagon for Civil War now. It lacks many of the weaknesses BvS had, and it's got a novelty that Ultron lacked... Oh, and no Mayweather to shit on the BO!
