'DEADPOOL' Is Now The Highest Grossing R-Rated Movie Ever Worldwide

Fox’s superhero action-comedy now had a worldwide box office total of nearly $746 million. That puts it ahead of the movie previously at the top of the chart, The Matrix Reloaded, which grossed $742.1 million worldwide.

Unreal. Reloaded had that record for a long, long time.

By the end of the week Deadpool passed DOFP as the highest grossing X-Men film of all time.

At this point, you don't put Deadpool in an X-Men film. You bring over Wolverine and Magneto in Deadpool 2. Hilarious.

I think Miller will take over but at the same time BvS has script issues and I just don't see them backing off the start date to reexamine Terrio's script.

Deadpool felt more like an X-Men movie than any of the X-Men movies. They were wearing costumes! Actual costumes!

Official #boxoffice update from WB - #BatmanvSuperman  opened to $166.1M wknd. FRI $81.6M, SAT $50.7M, SUN $33.8M, down 33%.
Now things begin to get really interesting vs. Deadpool. That Sunday is is only 2% better than Furious 7. If it does 2% better than F7 from here on out it'll hit $376M, or only about $10-15M better than Deadpool's final projected gross. Not much of a margin of error there.

I think people are vastly overestimating the clout Affleck has in this whole endeavor.

"Vastly overestimating"?

99% of the posters in this thread have no idea what the fuck they are talking about.

It has nothing to do with underestimation, they just don't know.

Because they literally shoot in two weeks

christ, talk about short sighted on their part.

they leave years between bvs and man of steel, but only weeks between bvs and production of justice league.

did they really think there was no chance bvs would underperform and drastic changes would need to be made from bvs to justice league?

$166 has to be disappointing for WB. It's not a failure, of course, but it's not a homerun either.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall in their meeting rooms this morning.

Well it was originally supposed to be released 1-2 years ago, but yeah they should have left room to change stuff.

It's not very hard to imagine that Deadpool out grosses it in the states now. Gotta figure that it drops 65%+ next weekend. Would be surprised with any less of a drop.

This is still too funny for me.

Deadpool having a critically acclaimed and widely successful movie is something you'd see in an cartoon or comic strip as a Deadpool fantasy, something that makes you go "that's funny, but it would never happen lol"

I'm 90% sure that "Deadpool becomes super popular and now everyone wants to cop his style" is gonna be the plot of Deadpool 2. Or a running gag at the very least.

I think it is a lock for a billion. It would have to crater for it not to reach that after a $420m weekend.

I'm not so sure...
It will likely crawl just over $100M in China, far below $150-230M projections (it will finish below Ant-Man there)
Domestic will be 400M max

International gross (minus China) is at $197M by Sunday (included)
It will need another $300M from overseas (minus China)...

Have the RT thread subscribed for posterity. Truly a fun thread, but ready to move on.

From here I guess we don't have too many big releases until Civil War. Until then I'm gonna have my eye on both The Jungle Book and the Ratchet and Clank movie. Interested to see how those ones do.

Deadpool didn't have 3D ticket prices either

Or $200+ million worth of marketing.

Or a PG-13 rating. Also less screens than BvS.

Current tracking has The Jungle Book noticeably above Maleficient, so a $70+M opening is definitely in the cards for that.

I honestly think people saw it just to see just how shitty the movie could possibly be. I know that's why I went since I was morbidly curious. I left the movie, saw the next crowd and just muttered "I fucking pity you people."

I doubt it.

Lol. What a post.

People I know seem to think it was an average to good movie. Everyone agrees it has its flaws. I am happy to see it succeed. I don't want WB to be rewarded for its mistakes, but I want to see a strong DC cinematic universe. Those thirsty for it to crash must really hate DC.

MoS dropped 65% and still had a 2.27 multiplier. It's not like BvS is getting pulled from theaters after next week.

So, I was going to wait for more evidence, but seeing this mentioned on Twitter - we might be seeing a drop off on BvS already, at least compared to last year's big Easter film.

Last year FF7 opened on Easter weekend to $147.2m, so it's a pretty good apples to apples comparison.

Fri - $67.4m
Sat - $46.6 (-31%)
Sun: $33.1m (-29%)

BvS

Fri - $82m
Sat - $50.9 (-38%)
Sun: $33.1m (-35%)

Much larger opening day, $4m ahead on Saturday, dead even on Sunday. Could be it's just a bit more front heavy, but across the weekend it's not putting up legs that strong, by comparison.

The drop next week will tell the story. Just looking at Mojo's daily numbers, it dropped 67% from Friday to Sunday, compared again AoU and Ironman 3 (Mojo has those as compares) they dropped between 35-40% over the weekend. Of course, not sure if Easter played a roll in a Sunday drop.

Wasn't AoU going up against some once in a lifetime boxing match or some shit?

It's also out everywhere (sans Poland and Myanmar), so there's no more real openings to come. It's all about the multiplier now.

To follow this through the FF7 numbers I posted above, that film had a 51% Fri-Sun drop last Easter weekend. So a bit heavier than your Marvel comparisons, but BvS dropped much harder on the same weekend.

People really try to downplay the effect Mayweather v. Pacquiao had, but it clearly had an effect on the gross. People were not concerned about Avengers that night at all.

That being said, it would've missed projections anyway.

At least we have the TV stuff.

And Deadpool cost less than $70m to make, compared to BvS $250m or so. That is a crazy return on investment for Deadpool.

That will probably be the top movie for Deadline's profit showdown at the end of the year.
Deadpool is gonna be more profitable than X-Men Apocalypse, Civil War, and Batman v Superman. That's hilarious.

What's the evidence that WOM is positive?

Have a quick glance at Twitter and I think you'd be surprised by the number of positive Tweets from people who enjoyed the film.

It's not scientific by any means but it does show that the film is connecting with some sections of the audience even if it's not a critical hit.

WB aren't going to give Miller JL when they're still salty about the money and receipts for Fury Road. I mean, I love George and Fury Road and would love for him to head something in the DC universe but honestly I don't see WB trusting him right now.
