Fuck's sake...
NX dead on arrival?
Yes I do care about my job and I generally do the firing =) . To clear up a few things though he did not make it sound like all games would be native 4k just that they would be scaled to 4k and we do have a tentative placeholder date for late Q1 next year.
Tried to keep my personal thoughts out of this thread but I really believe this move is all about the PSVR trying to look a bit better when compared to its direct competition.
They aren't.
I think a 2017 release will be much more palatable to people than a 2016 release.
Anyone confirmed this is true? If not should the title not have (rumour) in it?
Seems like a really dumb move with PSVR on the horizon. Do they want to move VR or new PS4s? Most existing users would be forced to make a choice between the two, hurting adoption rate of both.

How much do kidneys go for these days?
My PS4 is less than a year old. I knew the generation would be short, but not this short. What would a PS4K, PS+K, PSVR, and a 4K TV all cost together..
I think multiplatform game development will remain the same it's been: Games will be developed on PC and then settings for the game will be adjusted for PS4 and PS4K separately, with the PS4 version running at medium settings and PS4K version running at high settings and unlocked frame rate. I don't know much about game development though so I'm not sure what I said is correct, but I do hope developing games for many platforms won't become harder with the releases of PS4K and XB1.5.Problem is if Devs target 1080p/30 FPS on the PS4K, good luck getting stable performance on the OG PS4.

This would also effectively be a price increase on the console, and a big one at that. They can market new bells and whistles, but we're talking double the price here. Short of being marketed as a PS5, I don't think its gonna be flying off shelves.
Sony needs to rethink this. I don't know who this product is for. If this product is for Sony, to help push 4K TVs and Blu-Rays and buoy their other divisions, then they need to abort the idea quickly, cuz its a bad one.
But If it's true, I hope the product is rejected by the market. I don't want mid cycle console upgrades becoming a thing. Every 2-3 years is too frequent, and leads to buyer uncertainty. Should I really buy one of these new playstations or sit and wait for the upgrade? What if the upgrade never comes, what if it's too expensive? And what if that initial sale never occurs either? What if all the hype and buzz of a new console launch just evaporates? Truthfully, I believe this is the kinda shit that could lead to another crash.
"also there is currently no plan for any type of trade in program for current PS4 users but that could change. "
DOA if there isnt

CAN THE OP GIVE US THE NAME OF THE OTHER GAMES THAT TAKE ADVANTAGE OF PS4K POWER?
He says there are more, give us the info mate!
Yeah, but as a ps4.0 owner who has PSVR preordered, this has me hugely concerned.
Nintendo, the last hope for saving the traditional console market, who'd have thunk it.
Funny so many people want to switch from the console market because of a possible upgrade. To a market that people pay to upgrade every year.
Buying the PS4K because it got a 2x GPU upgrade is pretty much like buying a new GPU for your PC.
It really is.
The console world is converging on the PC world.
As predicted by Pachterdamus.

Lmao.
Old hardware runs worse than new hardware. Who would have thought that.
It was stated plainly and with no room for interpretation that there are developers that already have development kits for the PS4K and that they are making games that will directly target and take advantage of the higher specs of the PS4K. It was also stated that these games will in fact work for the PS4 but with considerable sacrifices made to performance
Count me in! As a current PS4 owner, I am REALLY hoping Sony announces a Trade-In Program where you can cut a decent amount ($200 or so) off of the main price so that you can switch over to the better system. It would only make sense, but time will tell.

Despite the impressive specification and efficiency improvements, the GTX 970 is fighting an uphill battle. Its total throughput of 3.49 TFLOPS

Let them dream?NX dead on arrival?
Ok, let's talk about game licenses then...
If the PS4K is REAL, can you transfer a PS4 DIGITAL game you bought for your PS4 over to the PS4K?
If so, would it benefit from the higher-end hardware in any way? No so much resolution, but what about framerate and overall responsiveness?
The OG PS4 won't be getting the "same games" as the alternate timeline where the PS4K won't exist. If the PS4K comes out, developers will focus their optimization time for that platform. The OG PS4 games will have framerate problems, glitches, and other technical issues because the developers won't consider it a priority. If the PS4K never comes out, developers can focus all their time optimizing for the platform, making sure all the performance is squeezed out of it.
To say that it won't change the quality of PS4 games is not all realistic.
I'm inclined to agree, but let's keep in mind that Sony is trying to also push their PSVR this year. Why would anyone choose to buy the PSVR if they know that in order to get the best experience possible, they need to upgrade to the PS4K?
I have a headset on pre-order, but I pre-ordered with the assumption that this would give me a great VR experience on the PS4. I'd be inclined to cancel that pre-order, if this accessory was originally designed with for a PS4K, but isn't being publicly marketed that way in order to increase sales.
I'm not going to spend $500 on an VR Headset, or any peripheral if I cannot use it to it's full potential.
Certainly possible. It will vary per studio and regular PS4 games will presumably get progressively worse as time goes on the same way cross-generation games got worse as we got further into this generation.
Making games that actually befit the market this generation is very hard, and Sony had a lot of smaller teams that weren't well oiled machines ready to tackle this the way 500-1000 person teams at Ubisoft or EA or Activision were. Each studio has to work on upgrading their own engines and toolsets as well since they're not a shared stack, and they weren't making PC games where they could do a lot of the work early to boot.
