People suddenly glamouring 60fps.
What happened to the '30fps is fine, 60fps is too gamey' folks?
The people complaining most will be first in line when this launches. This sounds good to me, more power = better games
Didn't your idol Phil Spencer tell you people who with ill on the competition are not real gamers?
So it's ok for Microsoft but bad for Sony?
I get less optimization out of the console that i bought.
Yes, but Uncharted 4 IQ is already too high. Why do we need more than that? I think it's plenty enough for bullshots.

Hm. Oculus is looking like a better investment than psvr right about now.
This is hilarious to me as welltexhnolyze said:People suddenly glamouring 60fps.

I'm thinkin barely 30fps (mostly around 20-25), with probably some serious graphical downgrades. Devs have gotten away with a lot recently with optimization issues even today. I don't think they'll try harder in the future. Some I think will run okay, but there's still a big chunk.
Like Fromsoft. Love them with all my heart but they're shit at optimization and Bloodborne, while an amazing game, is sometimes not far from running pretty badly in some instances. Now if they start targetting a higher end console which they'll already have problem optimizing for as it's usually the case (if any previous dark souls told us anything, although they might have gotten better with Dark 3 on PC. I yet have to try it), I don't have high hopes for a normal ps4 version. And there's a lot of other devs I think who would go down the same way. Especially in the console space where graphical power is often more important that frames. People expected a lot of 60fps with the ps4 already and that wasn't the case. I don't expect it for the ps4k. Plus if it's that much of a power gap with the ps4, the differences in general won't be unnoticeable, and a lot of ps4 players will feel like playing a lesser experience, being undermined in their purchase.
Like someone above me said simply: "PS4k won't suddenly make devs good". Optimization is not just a hardware issue and so far still a majority of dev think very little of getting the best of each platform
maybe, but maybe it means more sales opportunity due to increased install base so more resources allocated to optimization. Or maybe the lowest common denominator still gets the most work. Either way, no one can confidently say they know the PS4 version will get less than half the optimization it's currently getting.More Skus=Less optimization
That is a fact.
isnt the same with pc.
Overreact much?
I honestly don't see what the big deal is. Are people afraid of change? As long as your PS4 still plays games that are optimized for this PS4K, what's the big deal?
I've got no problem with progress. You guys are hilarious.
The PS4 will have been out for 3 years by the time this is potentially released. I'm sure the PS4, with its user base of 30-40 million will be able to justify its existence for at least a couple years. There's your arbitrary 5 year console generation length milestone. Nothing to worry about!

People are really reaching here, with comments about their system becoming worthless and how this will lead to annual refreshes, the exaggerated conjecture is tiresome.
Hahaha, thanks for calling me a Xbox fanboy, first time that happened in ages. No, seriously, ages. About the second question, what I said isn't about "ok for MS and not for Sony", they are both fucking it up by doing it. But since I'm against this and Sony is pushing this even harder than MS then I wouldn't mind seeing them get wrecked, I won't be getting any of them anyway.
Not if they announce some kind of official price drop due for fall. A bit before the PSVR release...![]()
nope pretty serious.
there isnt one single reason for this outrage.
Let me get this straight.
You're mad at Sony for doing this.
But yet you want Microsoft to do the same thing to spite Sony for doing this?
So devs have the devkits already but they still don't know which CPU to put in?
Games developed around the newest machine? a home version of the new-3DS shitfest?
And all this to allow people to play on their (outrageously laggy for gaming, unless you have the top of line) 4k Tvs?
#teamfake. And if true, I will say goodbye to sony as I did with this gen's N handhelds. There's no way such shady practices should be encouraged.
Anyway, all this could as well be a well-built clickbait story feeding off the negative response it generates, and news outlets just started copying each other or "independently" confirming things here and there.
Not even close.
Oculus + min spec PC = $1500
OGPS4 ($400) + PSVR ($450 w/cam) + PS4K ($400)= $1200 - $200 PS4 trade in = $1050
No trade in program?
Come on, Sony.
what i take from this thread is "if i cant have it you also cant"

"significant sacrifices to performance" is incredibly foreboding and was exactly what I was hoping not to see. THe idea that this would make the PS4 second class and offer exclusive content/experiences is precisely what I did NOT want to see. Whelp. This seems like such a fucking horrible idea especially given the launch of the PSVR platform mere months earlier. Not a fan of this and what it means for the console ecosystem going forward AT ALL.
I wonder if the PS4K will come with a revised DS4 that isn't a POS like the current one.
Well, you don't care if I start getting crappy ports in my PS4 and I don't care if your fancy PC isn't taken full advantage of because developers target PS4s bigger userbase. When PC gamers complained that console hardware is actively holding back graphics tech I don't think anyone imagined that console gamers would actively fight for that right so hard, just so they could feel a bit more validated in their purchase.
This thread is blowing my mind.
The DS4 is my favorite controller ever made (although I haven't used an xbone elite yet)
Usually it takes 3 consoles for a company to be complete goddamn idiots. Like Sony with the PS3. MS with the Xbone.
Sony hasn't even waited a full gen to throw their lead away. God job salvaging your gaming division only to kill it dead 2 years later. Goddamn. What fucking morons.
All this turmoil about this new PS4 needs its own episode of South Park.
i wonder in this day and age, how feasible would be to release something like a Dual GPU PS4 or a better integrated GPU in the APU if the Morpheus took off. Offering the same experiences of a normal PS4 but with better IQ and frame rates.
why don't you see the OR as an important feature complementary of the videogame experience? For some games the Occulus R. will be used for others no. It's not like the adoption of VR will exclude the other way of playing.
One of the console manufacturers will embrace VR, it is one of the most obvious things to enhance the experience even while maintaining the same visual fidelity. If costs drop enough we might see it before the PS4/Durango generation ends.
I cant not even believe people can debate the importance of VR for videogames, is outrageous. (this comment is not adressing you, is just in general)
The first PS4K exclusive/Digital foundry threads are going to be so good.
This, but a upgrade my PC instead. If there is a trade-in program, consider me sold.
If not, I'll buy an NX and laugh at Sony.

It's all a matter of perspective.
