Is your avatar a bunch of crappy text? The thread to fix that lives again!

The tool you should be using instead of the smattering of free transform mess in your 'explanation' post.

Oh I know the tool, Im being being a smartass. I prefer using Free Transform because I usually have to resize my images anyways, so I keep to my process

mine has been taken away.
Could you please be so kind and gimme another chance?

my new one would be this:

it's 90 x 112, so I guess it would be fine now(?)

thanks in advance

Guys how hard is it to just set the canvas to the correct size when you make a new project? Seriously?

You could post your regular one and someone can resize it. If you want no avatar, just change the url on your profile to a fake url? and maybe then nothing would come up after I change the thing.

Updated the op as there's already been a repeat offender. After a couple of 'offenses' I'm probably just going to keep you with that avatar.

72px × 100px (scaled to 90px × 125px)

But isn't 90*125 too big?
I don't get this, my previous avatar was the same size i'm sure and i had it for months.

Yeah, it was getting scaled to 90x125 since it wasn't 90 across originally.

My browser shows this, so I nuked it:

The forum makes any avatar 90 pixels across, so if it has to add some width, it adds the same ratio to the height, and that's where most people's avatars become too big. Easiest way to fix yours is to chop off some of the bottom, or add some blank space so it doesn't expand.

Wait so my avatar's changed back. Does that mean it's ok after all?
I don't know why it changed back, but it is definitely not OK.

Here's a fixed one for you:

Edit: and I even went and recreated the shaded border on the bottom row for you:

Excellent. Thanks :)

I changed it back to show that above pic of the resize making it too big and in case you fixed it while I was asleep, which looks like what happened. :)

Red, you don't need to undo a user's avatar restrictions to show them stuff like that. Just turn off the "Show Avatars" option in your User CP. It only hides the modded avatars for some reason, making it perfect to take screenshots of how the avatars look unmodded.

Clipper, what are you using to make your GIFs?
GIMP.

Steps for the Family Guy one were:
1: Take a 135*180 selection (1.5* seemed good to avoid artifacting)
2: Crop to selection
3: Convert to RGB (indexed colour doesn't scale well)
4: Scale to 90*120
5: Convert back to indexed (GIF needs it)
6: Optimise Animation for GIF (to reduce size, some frames are made as a difference rather than redrawing)
7: Check size of image
8: If too big, drop some unnecessary frames from original image
9: Repeat steps 6-8 until file size was small enough
10: Put a longer pause on the final frame

It was kind of fun. The way it sort of loops is pure coincidence, though. The last frame of him putting on the jacket (which is now the first frame of the GIF) actually makes him look like he's just undoing the cord when you tie it to the end of the other sequence. It probably could have been made better if I dropped the first frame and added the real frames of him undoing the jacket later, but I couldn't be bothered to do any more after I noticed how good it looked with that one frame in there.

Some users are missing this awesome program. ^_^

I'm gonna tell you something that will change your life... because I cannot believe you've been making avatars this way all this time. :lol

Open your image in Photoshop. At the top of the screen, click Image, then click Image Size and resize the image to how large you want it. Then, to the left select the Crop tool. It looks like this.
3qmNU.gif
Once you have it selected, there will be a series of tool options for the crop tool at the top of the screen. Set the width to 90 and the height to 120. Select the section of the image you want for your avatar, then hit return/enter.

All done. No free transforming. No copying the size of a moderator or anyone elses avatar. You've done it yourself. ^_^
No his way is easier to visualize. You can move around the image to frame it right without having to figure out in your mind how it will look with the sides chopped off. You can also shrink it depending on what shot you want. It's like the canvas is the viewfinder in a camera and you're looking at your image through it.

I borken my avatar years ago... I think I've gotten better at internet in the interim that I might be forgiven for past transgressions.

My avatar was 84x120. Didn't know about the scaling thing. It suddenly stopped working, so I fixed it and relinked to the fixed one in my profile.

Please help me, avatar lord.

Thank you. :)
