Final Fantasy XV: Platinum Demo Thread

Well, it runs pretty bad.

The actual combat at the end felt OK...

Super short demo. Like others have said, it's pretty much just a tech demo, which is kind of weird because of how bad it actually runs.

I had fun playing the updated combat at the end but I really think they should have just updated duscae and gave that out instead. Does a much better job at selling the game. That or really clarified better that this is essentially a tech demo

Hair looks terrible still. Fix that Square. ASAP.
The hair will not change - all their PS360 titles rendered hair in this way, and so did MGSV.

I think that method looks really bad but Japanese developers really seem to like it. It's rarer to see it in Western games although GTAV did it too.

Someone who actually knows what they're doing with the combat system lol

I had no issues with the frame rate. Only played it once though. Combat will take some getting used to but once I do I feel battles will be so much fun.

There are like...3 locked plates before you reach the final area. I wonder if there's a way to unlock them after a playthrough.

They opened up for me when I had about 270 stones.

EDIT: Nevermind you're probably talking about the Platinum plates

The combat did not feel very satisfying, but maybe I just need to understand it better. I felt some glimpses of what could be pretty good but it just didn't feel very responsive.

When hes fighting the thing at the end? Didn't know you could.

Try experimenting with the warp zones on the castle walls Noct always warps off of in the FFXIII Versus trailers.

Just try warping and moving the L-Stick to fall off on to
the middle balcony.

A bit finicky but the weapons are worth it, didn't even know there were weapons like that in the game.

I managed to do this sequence with barely any idea what I was doing. Basically just hit square at the prompt, and then hold circle from there on out. Looks great though!

Fun demo, short. Enjoyed the final combat arena with the boss though, did that a couple of times to mess around with warping and trying to get some combos in with the airstep sword.

Played through it.

Just a very different experience than Xenoblade Chronicles X (which I'm playing through now and turned off to download and play this).

Felt very janky. Button presses seemed weirdly delayed. Sometimes I'd want to attack a certain way (to destroy a random box) but Noctis would attack another direction.

Graphically it looked fairly nice but the framerate was worrisome.

Played the end part a couple of times. Started doing warp stuff or whatever. I don't know - was OK I guess.

The jaggies? Really you need proof? The Division looks miles better and it's dealing with a lot more.

No, not yet, Final Fantasy XV's version of open world is much much bigger.

I get that the IQ is bad, but it doesn't look average. It looks pretty good for what it is.

So I enjoyed it for what it was, but damn the framerate is pretty rough. Not as bad as Duscae, but still. I am sure they will work on optimizing this thing before it's out.

Square should NOT have put out this demo.

-Janky combat
-Bad camera during combat
-Low Framerate especially during warping
-Poor IQ as you'll see by lack of AF and AA

Alright, so I played through twice, once in English and again in Japanese just for curiosity sake. So I guess I can give impressions.

The framerate didn't bother me on my first run through, but on my second one, I noticed it more when I was using the bombs (since I finally figured out how to use them lol) and in the final fight. It's pretty shit still, but it's better than Duscae. Although as people have pointed out, this is far less open than Duscae, so that the framerate is tanking so bad on this pretty linear stuff is fairly poor.

I don't know what to think of the visuals. In terms of art direction/design, it's pretty amazing. I loved everything I saw. In more technical terms, I wasn't that impressed. There are jaggies everywhere.

Gameplay wise, I actually found myself enjoying combat more. I don't know if it's the changes to weapon switching or something else, but I didn't outright hate it like I did in Duscae. Although I still don't know that I want to play a 50+ hour RPG with this combat system.

Oh music is still great. Though that was never really an issue.

In the end, the choice to give this to the public is a really weird one. I don't see how this would really have the potential to sell people on the game. At best, it seems like it might intrigue people, but it seems more likely to turn them off. It's certainly cute, and I enjoyed the little touches like unlocking the plates that showed
Leviathan
, or gave me a
smaller car
or spawned
soccer balls
. I just don't know why you wouldn't try to give people something that lets them play with the combat and world a little more extensively. My hype was back through the roof after the show, and I even ordered the Deluxe edition. But this kind of deflated me back to pre-show interest. A fifteen minute demo? Really?

I forget where it was claimed, but wasn't this demo supposed to be what the final game is "targeting"?

This may cause a great deal of concern for people not digging it, technically.

Yeah, I know. But most people don't know how to parry to begin with. I have a feeling most people playing this went around holding O while saying the combat sucked.

So holding another button is supposed to make it more engaging? I'm just concerned that Square thought that this demo would be a good representative of the whole game. If this is all they've been able to come up with, it's not looking too hot. Game comes out in just a few months too.

...That whole sequence is a QTE.

Are button prompts really QTEs? I think it's an important distinction to make.

Like, QTEs are stuff that you usually have to go through to complete something a certain way. FFXV and games like KH2 have button prompts, which are different. You have control over when they appear.

I don't know. I kinda miss the Duscae system giving a weapon for an opener-link-ender and certain situations. I wish they given more to experiment with the new combat changes but I guess that wasn't the point of the demo .

The key to making the combat flow is knowing when to dodge or teleport away and holding down the attack button.

If you just spam circle and get knocked down it's just boring.

Other than that I mixed in some hammer strikes for fun.

The fire bugged out on my and just stopped working after 1 use

The shuriken and shield weapons were cool too, but not really as strong

I don't feel like this demo is doing them any favors in hopes of attracting people to purchase the game.

It's too short and limited. Duscae did a much better job of showcasing what the actual game would be like.

People not in the know would probably get turned off by this.

Yeah, I really don't think this should have been released lol.
People who have been following this game likely know what to expect from it but I don't think this will convince anyone to get it. It'll do more harm than good imo.
Duscae really should have just been updated and released to everyone.

This demo sold me on the game tbh. The graphics are gorgeous and the IQ isn't too bad, sitting about 6ft away from a 50" 1080p.

There is something so charming and BIG about this game and I still don't see how they can possibly deliver something of this scale. I'm really excited.

I don't know...they made it pretty clear that this demo was not part of the game. I do think they need to just make Duscae 2.0 available to everyone though. I don't think people who bought Type-0 would be too hurt over it anymore.

Demo was short and limited, but I still had some fun. I feel that people are right that it won't do Square any favours though.

Named my carbuncle Boko.

Had an awesome time with it. Going through it again cause that battle against the Giant was fun. Gotta get good at the parry.

Named my Carbuncle Garbonzo.

That was really bad.

Maybe it was just cause it was on xbone, but it had that iq issue where there's like...silvery jaggy lines where the assets line up (it was really prevalent last gen).

The frame rate was terrible too, and the controls were janky and unresponsive. Didn't really understand the combat other than dodging and attacking...unless there was something else to it.

The graphics weren't even that great. With the frame rate so bad I thought at least the textures would good but nope. Now I'm especially worried about how this game will perform I'm it's big ass world map.

I sincerely hope the PS4K is real and this game benefits from it.

Combat was fine imo
It's probably the most "on rail" ARPG I've ever played, I felt like I was being guided with the excessive button prompts and the QTE and the framerate was absolutely tanking during the Iron Giant. On Xbox if that makes any difference.
Square Enix:" Please clap"

The kingdom heartesque combat was unbelievably bad.
The smart choice really would have been to directly copy the KH combat, not whatever this low rent copy is.

Is it me or is the demo choppy? Looks like it has frame pacing issue or is it feedback low fps. And i an the guy who had no issues with games during ps3 era

So this uni-rabbit texts you emojis.

I would say that as somebody who has never played more than 20 minutes of FF before, I found this demo strange, but I'm not really sure what the baseline for strange is in this series.

They could have at least put that awesome new trailer at the end of this. If I didn't know better, I would think that the entire game was like this.

Anyone who watches this event knows it's essentially a tech demo. You can change weather, become something else etc. and the gives you a sample of the combat.

I already love how easy it is to switch weapons. Now it's a matter of learning to parry, dodge and warp.
