Final Fantasy XV: Platinum Demo Thread

Is it me or is the demo choppy? Looks like it has frame pacing issue or is it feedback low fps. And i an the guy who had no issues with games during ps3 era
that + does anyone find the moving/controls traversal janky? like it's missing animations for climbing over rocks are other geometry? Feels very dated in the fact that Noctis is impeded by things he can just walk over like those vines in the beginning area, instead of manually jumping.

characters models are very pretty and the lighting is nice. bad iq though.

Anyone who watches this event knows it's essentially a tech demo. You can change weather, become something else etc. and the gives you a sample of the combat.

I already love how easy it is to switch weapons. Now it's a matter of learning to parry, dodge and warp.

Oh I know that they make it obvious. They've been saying for the past interviews that what we were getting was a tech demo and the demo itself makes it very obvious that its a tech demo. Despite this, there will be tons of people who assume that this is the majority of the game, combat ,etc.

I think giving out an updated Duscae would have been way better. Duscae provides fighting multiple enemies, an open world, a dungeon, quests, a large boss to fight, a shop, and you have your party members with you. That is way closer to what the full game will be like but maybe they just only intended this to be a small treat and if so, they should really communicate it better.

Didn't notice the framerate having issues (I'm on PS4). It may have during big magic attacks but I was to wrapped up in the spectacle I guess.

Hell when they annoucned the free demo back in 2014 they said it would be a demo to show of the tech.

Plus even Tabata said the demo would be different.

A lot of it is like a tech demo. I really enjoyed the actual fighting though. Looks very shallow at first, but feels like it has more depth the more you play. The extra weapons help a lot to show that to.

Tried to air sword hook way up top the Citadel tower and land a critical on the boss but you can't target him from way up

Also, the frame-rate was abysmal.

Played again, unlocked all the plates, hit all the leviathan buttons...that's it? Bzzt.

If "the top" is those 3 that are aligned, you can target him from there. I couldn't tell if you could get any higher than that.

Square should NOT have put out this demo.

-Janky combat
-Bad camera during combat
-Low Framerate especially during warping
-Poor IQ as you'll see by lack of AF and AA

I'd say it's good they did. These issues were present in the previous demo, but when you had to buy a $60 remaster to get it, that's obviously going to skew perspectives a bit. I think this thread will be way more valuable as far as establishing a pre-release consensus on how the combat is.

I'm downloading it now. Didn't like Duscae very much at all really, but I'm giving this a fair chance. I get what they're going for with this system too, I'm just not convinced it's for me. But I want to see what it's like with a lot of abilities and in tandem with whatever their growth system is like.

I hope there's more to the combat.

Presentation is nice, even if it runs bad. The combat on the other hand just seems fucking silly. You're basically just holding down circle the whole time until the enemy attacks...then you hold square.

Warping is alright but it feels janky.

Finished the demo in 47 minutes will all the orbs and exploring all the levels. But feels more like a tech demo of the game engine than a proper demo.

Ok so just finished the demo. My quick impressions

- Overall the game runs much better than Episode Duscae
- Soundtrack is excellent
- Combat as adult Noctis vs the Iron Giant is awesome, and challenging. I like how easy to switch weapons and magic is, and I appreciate the challenge.
- I actually really like the sense of exploration and platforming. I hope the final game keeps these elements. In the big open room when you are shrunk miniature Noctis I actually had a lot of fun climbing all over all of the little building blocks and books. The mechanics were fun and I hope there is some platforming like this in the final game.
- Carbuncle is adorable of course
- The game, engine wise, still feels very rough. Visuals are ok, but image quality is terrible. Also frame rate jutters. I'll be honest the game doesn't look visually impressive enough to justify its performance. I'm not sure whats going on with Luminous but they are going to need these next 6 months to iron things out.
- I'm also not sure this should have been the big public demo. The demo is pretty weird and if I was a newcomer to Final Fantasy I'm not sure what here would attract them. Something like Episode Duscae would be a far better selling tool.

Overall I enjoyed it, but there is certainly some rough patches.

Just keep looking up and there's more you can warp to

Yeah I really wish they had given a suite of abilities and weapons or something to test out the combat with because I am not feeling it based on this. I hope it's better than it feels in this demo though.

No, not yet, Final Fantasy XV's version of open world is much much bigger.

I get that the IQ is bad, but it doesn't look average. It looks pretty good for what it is.

When it ported me into that room I felt like I need to roll like in Katamari. Very dissapointed and I've been playing since FF 1!

Just finished it. What a terrible demo. (I have not played Duscae or whatever, so I can't compare.) Combat is awful, visuals are completely underwhelming at best, performance is subpar (despite mediocre visuals too!), the camera and movement just sucked too. I wasn't expecting much as I've hated FF for almost two decades, but this was worse than I thought it'd be (though not as bad as my brief experience with FF Type 0, fortunately).

The only redeeming value is how cute Carbuncle is. Dawwww.

Yuuuup.

All this demo is managing to do is make me thirstier for the PS4k as to eliminate the IQ and framerate issues from an otherwise beautiful looking tech demo.

Mission accomplished Sony.

For real. Beyond holding either of those two buttons you can also switch between weapons but that's really all there is to it as far as this demo goes.

I'm baffled at some of the people here saying they enjoyed it like there was actually any depth or nuance involved. Warping feels super gimmicky.

Can someone rip Altissia's theme please? The waltz theme in the town.

Without the rain preferably. But I'm fine with it there if that's what it takes.

The music is fantastic, yeah. I mean, I'm still down to get the game on release just based on the presentation of the whole thing.

Still going to complain about how shit the combat is though.

I'm thinking recently that that's the issue with it right now.

We see the guys doing all this incredible stuff in the trailers and it looks fun. It isn't in practice because we don't have any of those tools.

This is to say nothing of his you'll manipulate your bros, if a gambit system is even still in the game.

Anybody else get stuck at the part when you stand on the plate to start the ending? Just kinda stood there, the UI went away and I can't move.

Nice music though, sounds like Everybodys Gone to the Rapture.

I agree with some of the people saying the fps is choppy and the IQ being a bit blurry. (PS4)

The choppiness is similar to the one I've experienced during that PvE mode in Rainbow Six Siege beta. I've heard the retail version of Rainbow Six Siege solved that problem by letting the user select vertical sync on/off.

I have a feeling this game will run smooth on the rumoured PS4K...

They better have the framerate at a locked 30 fps for the released game. The framerate in this demo is atrocious.

How exactly ARE you supposed to do the Iron Giant fight? Trying to hit Square to dodge yielded apparently no iframes, which made dodging pointless as he would hit me anyways. How do you even trigger Defend and Parry? If it's a QTE fight, how do I make that button prompt show up? The whole fight was mechanically baffling, holding Square to try and Defend did nothing, trying to dodge did nothing, in the end I just mashed O and let him kill me over and over again until I zombied him to death and got to leave the area.

Framerate was really stable for me. Very rare drops. PS4 version.

We got a PS4K insider here!

;)

Holding square works for most barrage attacks, but things like overheads don't count. Dodging also triggers the QTEs for parry attacks

Warping in and out of battle is the way to go.

The framerate was absolutely fine for me. Felt the same level as Bloodborne or The Witcher 3. The jaggies are bad and the child sections are pretty boring. But the grown up Noctis section is great. Lucis is fucking beautiful.

The framerate takes a noticeable hit during particle heavy scenarios and cutscenes - which is basically par for the course with most AAA games. Not as good as something like Syndicate, but not as bad as Just Cause 3 - as an example.

Anyone else bothered by the extreme level of bloom in some places? I had to squint my eyes, but maybe it's intentional because that's what happens when you look directly at bright lights (?)
