Final Fantasy XV: Platinum Demo Thread

Yeah I realize, it's just night time seems reallllly dark.

Yeah, night time was almost pitch black, like the Iron Giant was just a black blob. Day time has some really extreme HDR, like shadow areas would be pitch black until I walked into the shadowed area and then it would brighten up and show detail. They really need to balance the lighting engine so dark areas are always visible, I'm all for realistic dark nights in real life but in games you have to be able to see the game you're playing. I hate those "super dark nights" mods in The Elder Scrolls games for the same reason.

Duscae to me felt really unpolished and bland. This demo, personally, feels more together, like it is a better representation of a game. There is music through the demo, and it's really great. This feels like a demo of a Kingdom Hearts level. The combat is also more refined from Duscae.

It's very simple, but there are nice little touches, and the landscapes are great to look at.

It really isn't though. Its missing so many core elements that are important to the gameplay. Duscae felt like a super early alpha (which is was) but it still felt like part of a game. This feels more like assets tied together to show off different things very shortly ( which makes sense because its a tech demo). I fully get why people are getting turned off from the full game because of this and thats because this is nowhere near how the actual game is.

In some ways yes, in others no. While playing Duscae you feel like you are playing at least a part of a (very rough) game.

This feels like a straight up tech demo, but combat is improved as well as performance. Though there are still issues.

I would actually describe it as opposite. This feels more like a game to me than Duscae did. Duscae felt really empty, janky at best, and lacking music and the vibe that playing a Final Fantasy would have.

While this demo feels more like a Kingdom Hearts than a Final Fantasy, it feels more polished and presentable. It might also be that the music is just amazing.

Watching this video (leave the captions on) makes it seem like there's a lot more going on mechanically. It certainly looks a lot more interesting but I'm not sure if that will translate well into play. I haven't played Duscae so I can't say for sure myself. Depends on how it controls.

Duscae was the barest minimum possible, honestly. There's less to that than the FFXII demo, if you've ever played that.

This is a damn good demo.
Wish there was an option to make the boss stronger though.
Anyone know if its still possible to redeem the type 0 demo? Thinking about buying it on ebay.

There is a plate past the ending plate that respawns the boss at Level 15 he hits a lot harder.

So what?

This plays like a dream section, like if you were in the game and you went through a chapter as a kid if it were in the narrative. These games often will put you in a position where elements are stripped away.

And well, I'd say it's overall more fun to play than Duscae. I really wasn't feeling Duscae, personally.

Would anyone want video of a quick playthrough of the demo without commentary? Don't want to seem like I'm fishing for hits or anything, if anyone is interested I'm uploading to youtube now, should have it soon.

May be this game was designed for ps4k. I am pretty tolerant to frame pacing issue or fps drops but here its very noticeable. Also game has some strange visual inconsistencies. lighting is so good but texture quality and low res really hurts the presentation.

How is it on xbox

Yeah I just don't agree. Nothing about this felt like a game at all to me. Duscae felt way more like one. There was an actual large environment, party members, quests, a summon you could get, etc.

This felt like a straight up tech demo

I don't understand what they're doing with the tech that creates such a poor result. The game is alright looking, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything so special that it should result in an inconsistent FPS.

I feel like more emphasis needs to be placed on Noctis' maneuverability while locked on.

Besides that I had a joy playing it. Loved the KH feel of the kid Noctis part and there were some great sites to see. I like the new control scheme for the most part even though some things need to be smoothed out.

Carbuncle. <3

Yeah, it might have had all that, but none of it felt particularly inspired. It just felt like shit they put in the demo to make it feel like more than a tech demo.

I like Platinum demo the most.

This seemed...like a really bad demo for people to try out. The combat is crazy dull.

I found the combat really fun as Adult Noctis, but really bad as kid Noctis.

I do agree this is a very poor demo to release to the general public though. If you are someone not into FF I don't see how anything in here could convert you. It should have been a Duscae like demo just with all the refinements they've been making and in a different setting.

Is this better than Duscae? That was some horrible demo at all levels.

Duscae as a whole was a lot better. Probably cause it was an actual part of the game (looks like it'll still be an actual part of the main game going by the trailer today). This, while looks better and plays better, there wasn't much to do and it's very short. The appeal is to see the how the game runs now but that appeal wares off immediately.

Yea not a really a demo to throw out there for the general audience. Should've just released a shorter version of Duscae (cut out the Behemoth storyline and just let people explore with the new combat and visuals).

Give me an hour or two.

Pretty much. It looks good but not 900p unstable 30 good.

Also lol @ the "this is why we need PS4K" comments. As I stated in another thread, this game has gone through development hell on an engine built around it that is so unproven that the publisher isn't even using it on its other flagship titles, and is in no way representative of the possibilities of current console hardware.

I wish I could blacklist posts containing "PS4K" and "Xbox 1.5" because 90% of the time they're full of stupid.

Theres nothing about this demo to get people excited for the full game. Its all these different elements just tossed together while still missing important ones. There are no party members, extremely dull combat as kid Noctis, one very short boss fight as Noctis, no open world, etc.

You have things like physics, weather, and time of day which are nice but the framerate isn't that great which drags the whole thing down. At least with Duscae, you got an idea of what to expect. This demo doesn't do anything. Its supposed to be a tech demo but it really doesn't even do that right. Its very frustrating because you can watch the new trailers and really see what the gameplay is like and none of that is here at all. This demo will harm more than it will help.

Wow the difference between the XB1 and PS4 is pretty noticeable... PS4 is definitely the way to go if you have both. (you know the drill... open in tabs and flip between em)

I don't agree.

Combat feels good to me. Maybe because I played Duscae demo, which was janky and unintuitive. This combat feels nice and simple. Assign weapons, attack monsters, switch between weapons mid-attack at the drop of a hat. Simple and fun.

Graphically, yeah, the framerate is a little rough (the roughness is overstated by you and everyone) but, I have to say, visually speaking, the demo looks very nice. Probably the best lighting I've seen in a console game, and the areas have a lot of detail and look really great.

I don't get why people are being so negative? It's a pretty enjoyable little demo. What was everyone expecting? This isn't even in the game itself.

My impression is that this demo plays like a Kingdom Hearts level. It's fun and shows off the world and graphics. There's no reason Sqaure shouldn't have released it as is. People make it seem like the demo is complete trash. It's not.
Specifically the demo felt its worst against the Iron Giant, and I'm repeating myself here, but it felt guided with the excessive button prompts and QTE, attempting to break away from that resulted in me typically eating damage.

Warping during combat resulted in the already low framerate tanking and I dont' mean the game is running at 15 frames low, but if I had to guess it's probably running mid to low 20s, it's the same feeling I'd get when I played Deus Ex: HR on 360 at any rate. That's not even addressing the low resolution and no AA which results in a jaggy image in combination with the low shadow and texture filtering.

If I had to say anything positive it's that I liked the room level as it's the one that conjures nostalgia of the Alice in Wonderland stage from KH, the carbuncle was kind of cute and it was amusing that it was texting Noctis and the lighting is also good outside of the annoying blue tint moments.

Edit: And as I suspected and see above, the PS4 version is a step up from the Xbone version.

Yeah exactly. When I play Duscae I felt like I was getting a feeling for what the final actual game will be like. Sure it was rough and very early but I could still feel the overall vibe of how the systems work together and how Quest design and party members are set up.

This just felt like a bunch of random elements thrown together.

Not sure how I feel about this other then the music was amazing. Wasn't sure how to approach the combat, as if it were Souls games. Been awhile since I played KH too and it might be more aged than recent action games. Graphics look good at times but also not good at times.

Unfortunately nothing really excites me about the game after playing this demo other than it being a main entry FF game that's been in development for a decade.

Downloaded it but can't play until after like 5:30 hours.. at work.

Just 1 question, how long is it? Like episode Duscae or shorter?

Absolutely. I don't see what the PS4K or X1.5 would fix here. There's something on Square's end that's being done poorly.

I only see a Resolution difference... and besides that, the game plays the same. Xbox owners dont have to worry

I mentioned that in my original post but PS4.5 posts aren't stupid. If you had 2x GPU performance you could just brute force it. PC gamers do it all the time with shoddy ports.

I acknowledge that the combat isn't trying to go for what many other action combats, namely Kingdom Hearts despite sharing its flare, aim for and for that I admire it. Yet, I really feel they should have given us more of time, abilities, competent enemies to help someone like me be confident in something different and why it's worth spending 50+ hours with.

Kinda wondering why people think the demo was so bad, honestly. I thought it was well done, minus some frame rate issues which they will likely fix. You can tell this demo was rushed out the door but at least they put some aspect of cities in it. I appreciated it after all the major hype we got tonight. I just can't hate it.

Pretty cool looking, makes me want to give it a try again tomorrow and fool around with that fight more to see what I can learn.

I feel like the game could use clear visual indicators between attacks that can and cannot be auto dodged. In MGR for example when enemies are using an attack that can't be parried they glow yellow briefly.

You can battle the giant over and over again. So you can infinite practice and not start from scratch.

I don't really care about whether it showed anything to get excited about the main game--which it did, to me, I might add--I simply found it fun.

There's so much media about the game, if someone wants to find out more, then they have a chance. There's literally an anime, a movie, tons of trailers, videos, everything.
