What is the point of warping to the side of buildings in the battle at the end? I know it looks cool but does it serve any purpose?
Please tell me I wasn't the only one who warped all the way up the building and just stayed there looking at the view? Pretty awesome to finally recreate the moment seen from previous trailers!
I've uploaded a commentary free play through for anyone that doesn't have access to the demo or just fancies checking it out over playing it.

You need to use the short sword to warp to buildings, long press triangle with a warp point selected, and its battle only, at least in the demo. (You only control adult noctis in battle. How do you warp and is it in battle only?

Yeah, I agree with you in regards to the manual dodge. As it is, you don't cover enough distance with manual dodge to be able to dodge attacks with a huge range effectively and no i-frames just makes it even worse. On the other hand, the delay with auto dodging makes combat feel unresponsive as hell. I felt like I had to press dodge before the attack animation from the giant started in order to activate it in time, which was not fun at all.
On a technical level I was mostly fine with the demo but since combat is the most important aspect for me, I am really not convinced right now. Star Ocean 5 combat looks much moe fun than this at the moment.
That gif is a parry, when the option comes up to block thats when it activates
I wanted to see what would happen lol. The animation was great. He rolled down the stairs yelling in pain than grabbed his arm while groaning some more lolYou can do that......but tap triangle before landing to save yourself lol
It works with the smaller sword too I've done it a couple times.I definitely agree that combat feels off. It's really bugging me too since I actually like the combat system and think it could be pretty good in the main game with some more skills and equipment unlocked. I just also feel like I'm fighting against the system half the time too due to the slow response, random omissions like armiger activation in midair and as others have been mentioning the mapping of controls you often hold to the face buttons. Like just swapping armiger cycle controls with attack/defend would make camera control so much easier.
What's bothering me about it is I like the system and can see some potential in there, but it feels like it's not going to be realized since any time you get something good going, something gets in your way to screw you over and it all feels like stuff they should be able to fix rather easily.
You may also need the greatsword equipped since I tried to activate it repeatedly earlier but it wouldn't happen. I never had the greatsword out though, so worth a shot when trying it.
Also, is there much of a point to the yellow crystals you get other than unlocking tech demo tiles?
It's funny. This demo was supposed to be the culmination of an otherwise great event, used to enhance the already established hype. What it's doing is the exact reverse, it's literally draining the hype away.
Pretty good demo I was left wanting more since. I haven't played the other demo and was hoping for something along the same lines. Pretty good nonetheless.
You can also parry him, you can warp strike from far for big damage.I cleared it. It was fun. The miniature part was hilarious. I was having trouble with the boss until I figured out that you are supposed to meet his big sword with your own big sword.
Depends on who you are. I played about 3~4 hours of it, and I loved it. Hyped for September.

Its pretty easy to avoid him by keeping guard press, but the time to dodge roll is't clear at all, at least to me, and it doesn't seem like there is any kind of reward for doing it as oposed to just holding the button down.
Same as holding the attack button vs multiple presses. I feel like there should be some timing mini game in there that could reward you with critical hits or stunning the enemy. I still like it though.
WOW
I actually really liked that! Didn't think the IQ was that bad either. The framerate got bad at times, but it as mostly decent as well.
Really pleased with the demo, the negativity certainly made me expect much worse.
I reeeaaaaally like the new combat, seems like they streamlined the skills we used in Duscae with a button to command movements to each weapon? A compromise, but understandable, given the need of the d-pad for real time weapon changing. It's definitely a favorable trade, not having universal individual skills but having complete control over our weapons.
My biggest criticism is that it doesn't let you save your game when you can fight as adult Noctis, that's the most important part of the demo. While I did enjoy my time through the kid Noctis sections (NERF SHINING HAMMER!), I really don't wanna do it again at all.
EDIT: I wonder how many people also named Carbuncle as Stella, lol.
Hoping the air-combo stuff gets better when the game comes out. I attribute my issues with it to the fact there are so little options in the demo. As Adult Noctis I basically had a light and heavy sword and not much to transition to in the air. The hits also lacked the weight and impact like say Kingdom Hearts for example. Hoping that gets rectified in the final release or it's just an issue of giving demo players the bare minimum weapon-wise.
Yea luckily tho a couple of sites seem to have enjoyed it from what i read(eurogamer, gamespot) and a couple comments sections from other places seem positive. The massive it sucks thing really does seem to be just here for now at leastI like it too, but I don't think there's any question, at least on Gaf (which is often the tail that wags the dog), that the demo has stepped on the very positive response to the event.
O yea i knowIt doesnt play the same animation though. Every weapon has its own unique counter/parry animation.
I HHHHHHHHAAAATTTTEEEEEEEEE The combat controls in this game.
My right thumb is doing WAY too much in my opinion.
Use my right thumb, to move the camera, use it to block, use it to warp and use it to attack..........
I was getting SUPER frustrated with the controls. Not to mention, you gotta HOLD the buttons, making switching between blocking, attack and warping slower than usual and I was getting hit more than I liked.
I was not happy at all with these combat controls.
why can't I change the controls to attack be Right trigger and defend using left trigger and warp using one of the shoulder buttons??? My index finger was doing absolutely NOTHING the entire battle. Why not make use of those button for combat??? Why put all the characters action besides movement on one finger!?
I was excited about the game but if the controls are gonna be like that, ima have to pass on this game.

You can just tap attack or tap defend like in a normal character action game. Shoulder buttons should have more use though.
Probably the team attacks, summons maybe?I supose they are for weapon techniques that are not in the demo.

What about techinques, how did you use techinques in Duscae? I need my Jump.Probably the team attacks, summons maybe?

That demo killed my excitement for the game stone dead. Hopefully things get refined towards the end because that combat was not fun.

The truck/giraffe transformations seemed to be part of the Tech Demo aspect of this. That and the panels that changed the time of day and weather. I agree with you on the music and the feeling wonder and enchantment - Yoko Shimomura (composer of the Kingdom Hearts games) does the music for FFXV and it's just fantastic.
The demo at least did what it was really meant to do and did a good job showing the time of day and weather.
Really awkward way to demo the game for the general public. Type-Zero demo was lots better, this felt like a interactive trailer. Like, does collecting the Final Fantasy Jiggies actually do anything, or is that just there?
Dodge roll doesn't spend MP, while regular guarding does.
You can also use it to get away from unblockable attacks.
