Wasn't this briefly scheduled to go up against Civil War? Or am I confusing these with something else?

I believe CW bumped it out of its original spot.
BOM documents it pretty well: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=3838&p=.htm
Basically, an untitled Marvel film was announced for the first week of May. BvS got delayed from its planned July 2015 date (With the way this weekend is going, my god, can you imagine how it'd have performed with summer competition?) to May 2016, and the day after Winter Soldier opened, Disney announced the marvel film was Captain America 3.
This is just sad. So much potential.
For all the amusement I'm having with watching this this thing implode, it really is sad. I wanted BvS to be a good film. It really had heaps of potential as a concept, involved some great talent, and they simply blew it. WB needs to make some serious creative changes before they further damage their franchise.
Like, put Justice League on ice, and get that solo Affleck Batman film get going. Drop Snyder and bring forward Justice League later on.
When does JL start? I keep hearing "a few weeks" but it's already been a week since this came out...how long can they wait to pull the plug?
It begins shooting in April 11th.

Drew McWeeny vindicated.

If they kick Snyder out I think they'll just give it to Affleck

Del Toro directs Aquaman.
They bumped BvS because Winter Soldier proved you could make money in March. They were never actually going to run it against Cap 3.Pretty sure they bumped BvS because they had an idea that Cap 3 was Civil War (wasn't announced until later)
Of all the choices I've seen to replace Snyder as the architect of the DCEA, ranging from a pipe dream (George Miller) to intriguing (Ben Affleck), James Wan seems like the most likely choice. He's young, seems to enjoy making studio films, has an apparent aptitude for radically different genres, and genuinely seem like a solid director. I could see definitely see him as the holder of the keys to the DC kingdom.
Delay Justice League to 2020, has Del Toro direct Justice League Dark for 2018 release.
Shit, his prediction is looking correct, isn't it?
I'm sticking with my random prediction if we're being weird: if Synder goes, James Wan is getting the call.
Man, it sometimes makes me nervous that there's so much overlap between BOT and BOGAF now, and that I stupidly decided to use the same username.Wow, that sounds outright prophetic now. Bumping up Affleck's Batman is exactly what they should do, it's the best card they have left to play.
I'm reading this thread and the one at the box office theory forums and we're running in parallel. :lol
I have my doubts that the DCU will continue if this movie fails to meet expectations. I'd rather it does well and they just correct things along the way instead of hoping it fails and the idea gets scrapped.
What are the other Swamp Thing? I know only of oneFuck, I hope the DCCU doesn't get scrapped. If it does, count on some more of this:
Superman
Superman
Swamp Thing
Superman
Supergirl
Superman
Swamp Thing
Batman
Batman
Batman
Batman
Catwoman
Batman
Superman
Batman
Jonah Hex
Green Lantern
Batman
Superman
Batman and Superman
Suicide Squad
DC's film slate 1978-2016.
They won't correct shit if they don't pay for the creative missteps they've made up to this point.
And the MCU ensures that the DCCU will continue in some form. Too much money left on the table otherwise.

Getting critically thrashed and failing to live up to its box office potential (even if it does "succeed" in the sense of being fiscally viable) is going to light fires under peoples arses to implement changes.
Well, they're not firing Snyder. Doing so this close to JL would be a catastrophic fuck up on their parts. Because no one of directorial merit is going to want to come in with less than two weeks notice to shoot the film Snyder was going to shoot, and if they delay it then the JL budget is going to skyrocket (paying off actors, rescheduling, keeping sets etc) which means chance of a profit becomes ambiguous.
I don't think they should fire Snyder. I'm just saying that the terrible reception that BvS got will be causing him and the rest of the creative team to rethink a few things, which imo is a better outcome than "complete failure, studio pulls the plug" that Father Brain seems to want.
Rth has updated and said that 15.5-16 is "wishful thinking" :lol

I for one applaud and encourage Warner Brothers to continue with their dedication to spend hundreds of millions on films which are critically panned and disappoint financially as long as they believe in the vision! Art > Money. I'm just glad I don't own any Warner shares.![]()

That's... pretty much what I was saying.
They need to seriously rethink the whole creative direction and course of action that led them to rush into a two-film-a-year schedule before they could gauge the reception of BvS.
See also: the current 2018 slate, which would have Flash and Aquaman films entirely or mostly in the can before those characters even get significant screen time in Justice League.
Wait, what?
