Look into your hearts. You know you will get positive Civil War reviews talking about how it returns the sense of fun missing from the overbloated BvS

I still cant believe someone in this thread tried to claim MCU is a bigger box-office draw than Star Wars. I thought TFA would shut up that absurd nonsense.

BvS is a bigger Box Office GAF draw than the avengers. This thread is our third longest now I believe.

Me too. CW should be a great way to completley forget about how awful BvS was.

I can only hope. But that might be asking too much of Marvel.

You probably are. I made the same mistake with AoU and I still haven't recovered a year on. My hype for superhero movies has been on the floor since that movie, and it was partly self inflicted tbh, I should have known better than to expect so much.

TWS is the best MCU film.

I agree with this.

It's funny because before TFA came out some people doubted it could beat Avengers because Marvel is so huge. And now post-TFA, $2 billion is obviously in play for the next Marvel film since Marvel is so huge.

...And people think animes are weird....
They both have their kinks
I think Vinny has the internet's largest collection of Divergent series gifs.
Should...we call someboyd for help?

if not an April Fools, Bobby might get his 70%
Bobby shill game too strong

Conspiracy theorists gonna go nuts if Civil War reviews well in the coming weeks.

You mean when it does.

If I had a time machine I would go back to last Thursday and tell people "you won't believe the records that BvS is gonna break."

Do you think episode 8 will have the same success than 7 ? I'm doubtful...

It doesn't need to, it will still EASILY run circles around whatever super hero movies are out regardless. Star Wars is much, much bigger than Marvel/DC/etc. People seem to already forgotten just how big TFA was. It could fall a significant amount with 8 and still be in completely different league ahead of the other blockbusters like Avengers, Captain America, Justice League, etc.

The pattern for the previous SW trilogies has been

1: Insanely huge record-breaking numbers
2: Fairly large dropoff(though still good numbers for a normal film)
3: Bounce-back that brings it close to the 1st film

No way to say if that pattern will continue since it depends on things like the quality of the movies and the context of the time period(for instance maybe SW catches on in China and that improves its overseas numbers), but yeah I'd expect a sizeable decrease for episode VIII. Maybe closer to Jurassic World-type numbers.

I dont see how anything superhero related is touching TFAs domestic total unless we are talking 10 years from now. However that opening weekend and overseas total isnt completely safe from superhero films. Im not sure anything currently announced is up for the challenge though.

Worldwide opening record is gone as soon as Marvel gives up on these early overseas openings. Thats the most fragile record.

I thought we were over this phase Cheebo

People already deluding themselves to thinking people are more interested in Cap, Iron Man, and Spider-Man than Rey, Luke, Finn, & co like in 2014 and early 2015. I thought what went down in December would shut up that craziness for at least a few years, apparently not.

When Episode IX makes far more than Avengers 3 in 2019 maybe that will finally shut people up.

The real question is what will be the first film to break $1 billion domestically. TFA came close but it's still out of reach. Maybe the first film in the next trilogy?

For shits and giggles I made a basic linear equation using FF and Deadpool's Thursday and weekend grosses as x,y (work is very slow today fyi). I realize it's in no way accurate at all but BvS's $7.7 million Thursday translated to a $50.2 million weekend, just a hair under a 70% drop.

Wow, this may have ended up being accurate.

In a few weeks when Civil War doesn't break BvS worldwide opening, we will see a lot of gloating about how BvS was a bigger hit. Of course those that will gloat will ignore that CW didn't open in every territory at once.
