This isn't meant to be a crap post, but I'm honestly cobfused:

I can't tell if LCGeek is speculating, in-the-know, or telling us what he wants in the system. Can someone clear this up for me? Sorry for being dense.
In-the-know and telling us what he wants in the system.

How the hell is "Well Nintendo wasn't always the weakest hardware around" a part of this discussion again? What does it change? Nothing. We're talking about now, not 2001.
I think it just means (especially considering how unpredictable has been, and still is this company) that we can't actually rule out any scenario by just looking at the past.

I mean, how many people would have guessed that after the Gamecube Nintendo would have pulled the very same overclocked harware? Heck, it even went on becoming their best selling home console!

From the recent reddit leak. Seems like a nice powerful console. If true the new Nintendo have learned there lesson. Bring it on.

"NEX" could look nice though, if you just don't tell people the real meaning.

Nintendo Extra is much better name the WiiU that's for sure.

They just need to keep the NX name. Even if I never find out what it means, I don't care. It just sounds cool.

Not to take it off topic but I still have absolutely no idea what they were thinking with that name.

The Wii brand was huge, so they thought they could capitalize on the name and draw in the crowds once again. They were wrong.

Ah, okay. Thanks!

So what I'm gathering is that the CPU is...decent? And when I say decent I mean it's a smidge better than PS4/XBO? Or do I have that backwards?

I am not savvy in tech, lol.

I believe LCGeek said the NX CPU is "noticeably better" than PS4/X1. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Wii yes, but Wii U was just terrible and confusing. It should have been Wii 2 if they were intent on keeping Wii.

Does anyone think Nintendo will release details of the architecture this time? Last time out all we got was AMD GPGPU. No details as to performance capabilities.

Hmmm, Nintendo NEX? Sounds a little strange, still...miles better than WiiU, I guess we can all agree on that.

One thing I do hope with Nintendo's rebranding, is they bring back COLOUR. Now, the minimalist design of the wii (packaging, grey/blue menus, colourless buttons) served its purpose, and I do not hate it, but I long for the days we had colour back into our nintendo consoles in a big way; from the console, to packaging, and from their OS to their button fonts in the games, I love it.

For example WWHD was boring to me menu wise, and one of the reasons I prefer the cube version (yes call me crazy); I just love Stylistically coloured menus/ fonts in my games. New 3DS (XL) gives me high hopes :)

Thank again for clarification on everything. Interesting stuff! I'm happy at least.

Nintendo's future will be very interesting. We are so close to officially knowing!

lol

that reddit page is legit poison

They are slinging so many things at the wall that at least some of that info might end up being true

which is kind of dumb. I say unless your "leak" is 100% accurate you should be marked and discredited from ever leaking again

Pretty much. There's enough people pretending to know what's going on that one of them is going to end up being pretty close as long as they are vague enough about it.

Really can't be that hard. Make some safe comments about the CPU, first party games and release window and you're mostly there without even knowing anything.

The one thing I don't like about speculation or talk about the NX tech is that it's messing with people. I'm sure most were expecting PS4 at best but a lot of discussion lately has pointed towards something that could even compete with PS4K or higher-end PCs.

It was never going to happen.

People with previously-low expectations will come out happy and people with previously-reasonable expectations will now come out disappointed. All because of...talk.

I really want Nintendo to show this console so we can move away from pure power and move towards what the console actually is and what Nintendo plans to do with it.

Boiling it down to the CPU is basically just reducing the whole thing to DBZ power levels.

Yep

people on Gaf have been making reasonable predictions on GAF for months

Slap on some paint and call in insider info and boom you got an NX leak

Bald-faced lie.

edit: grouping the PS4K with high end PCs is a bit silly.

If the upgraded Xbox is really called Xbox NeXt, and this is NEX... things will get confusing.

Next to the NeXt, the next NEX, will sell next to nothing!

I guess I keep forgetting how big the divide is between consoles and PC. As people have said, even the PS4 wasn't the most impressive thing back when it released. I may have messed up my wording. Apologies.

Cause most of gaf and net who understand speculation or theory would like more proof. One detail doesn't make up for what I had last time or what others in better positions than me would have. Look how off people were the last 2 gens. This reddit rumor is legit but not context which is why I put up that red flag in a topic that basically is skyrocketing much quicker than other nintendo pre launch spec wars.

So I mentioned one detail I knew and that's why I'm skeptical. Nintendo either upgraded from what I was told or there's some bs'ing. Don't think I'm inherently hyping it I'm saying no way a lowball spec can do the rumored performance. There's also the problem of bottlenecking. I don't know how supposed people didn't catch this. You need a good cpu to feed 7870/7950 that would have to do grunt work with little performance issues, and then you would need polaris or higher gcn tech to do the job. Hypothetically what people are saying from my perspective is with a shit cpu that nintendo is gonna put in a GPU as good as that to somehow makeup for the shit cpu that is needed to get ports working if they move on from BC in the manner said rumors describe. People in to emulation know why there are holes in certain rumors. Nintendo, could easily make performance in other places and get there. AMD chips fx4300 is a decent minimum too if we are talking smooth ports or ones devs want to spend time on. I don't buy this rumor knowing that piece of info. Cpu has to be good somewhere in that range and its not unreasonable outside of what people mention which is form. Nintendo usually is more impressive in this area than we give them credit so we can wait and see as usual. Low level apis have proved themselves so the real issue to me are tools that make the difference between a tomb raider patch and ashes of singluarity showing an i3 can keep up a processor a couple hundred more bucks more than it. We are in magical time I want to know the spells. People were laughing at MisterX, for good reason. He was right about apis he just needed a more balanced setup to show they could offset quite a bit. Is nintendo game, we will find out so start that countdown?

Welcome to negoaf megaton or megadud, it's spring time and there's no better way to start it than to throw down with a bit a love.

Sorry to bother you, but just to clarify: which is the "detail" you heard about that would (possibly) debunk the (unreliable to me) Reddit rumor? Weak CPU?

What's even the point of leaking/faking stuff if you don't have anything more juicy than this?

The CPU architecture is largely irrelevant and the rest of the stuff in the op is either already announced or to vague to say anything meaningful.

I guess I keep forgetting how big the divide between consoles and PC is. I may have messed up my wording.

The thing is, most of the optimism is rooted in the "revelation" that the system may be better than the current market leader- the PS4. The confusion I think is rooted in people seeing this optimism when their own personal threshold for "good" is mid-tier PCs where all consoles both released and rumoured fall short.

It was also released about a year prior to the GC and Xbox though. It had a fair head-start (And was more powerful than the Dreamcast)

So... they don't buy the strongest.

Nintendo Extra is much better name the WiiU that's for sure.

Wii Potato Salad is a better name than Wii U. I don't think Extra is great, though. I'm not sure it clearly conveys that it's not an add-on. Which is the last thing a new Nintendo system needs to be saddled with.
