I actually do agree that they've done a pretty lame job at developing Steve and Tony as anything beyond aquaintances.

I prefer good writing and seeing a friendship grow rather than being told 'so were we.' Ya know, the same good writing that has organic friendships between Cap and Bucky, Cap and Thor, Cap and Black Widow, Iron Man and Hulk, Iron Man and War Machine, and Cap/Falcon.

Now if you'd said 'Cap and Stark are brothers', you'd have foundation to stand on. But eh, you watched BvS and thought Batman was literally saying he was friends with Superman instead of comforting a scared woman with something to put her at ease. Which was hamfisted and obvious but still utterly missed by you.

By that logic, Steve and Bucky's friendship is also under microscope. How much is good enough to tip over that line between friend and acquaintances for you?

I want Aquaman to happen just because there is no way this movie works. No way.

I literally burst out laughing in the theater when [BvS]
an edgy guitar riff blasted from the speakers as an angry, tattooed Jason Momoa swam at the camera with a trident in his hand.
This one simply requires too much suspension of disbelief. It doesn't work when it's played 100% straight, completely serious.

God yeah... that was absolutely horrible. The freaking trident, the awkward looking at the camera for like 20 seconds or whatever lol. Uggghhh.. Its not looking good man.

But after I had to eat crow for saying movie watchers wouldn't want to watch a talking Racoon and a fucking Talking tree yell GROOT for 2 hours I'm not going to lodge myself against Aquaman just because it looks silly. I cant handle anymore crow meals of that magnitude right now.

I still can't believe that anyone thought that that was a good introduction to the character (or a good scene in any way). I thought that people were exaggerating when they talked about how bad it looked but it was just as terrible as everyone said.

whenever I see people reacting to that with the usual "my feels!! 😭" I just cringe. They're projecting the comics relationship unto something that still feels like it's in its infancy.

i cringe when people say that awful scene with peggy made them cry too. yeah the idea is nice but the execution was hilarious tbh.

The fact that
he's holding his breath is more hilarious to me
.

The Aquaman seen just made me cringe.

The Cyborg scene, on the other hand, lmfao.

Flash scene was the only one that was decent.

flash one was actually cool. could have given him a damn haircut though and i didn't like the lightning or being able to see him take out the bad guy on camera.

but you can tell they just grabbed ezra miller off the street to quickly film it.

From all the announced DC movies Aquaman seems to have the strongest director (aside from maybe SS), so I think WB knows if won;t be easy to pull off. But the stuff Wan is talking about sounds promising,

Still thought it was fine, or even good/cool for a tease. The others were just flat out wtf.

Bucky and Steve were established as being close friends prior to and during the events of CA: TFA so it's not at all comparable.

Almost all of Steve and Tony's scenes have involved underlining conflict so yeah, sorry if I don't buy them as being very close. You want to see a friendship set up and developed well within its own film? Steve and Natasha in Winter Soldier.

they freaking made miles bennett dyson from Terminator 2 cyborg's dad. such a dumb and extremely on the nose stunt-casting.

it was a pretty creepy scene. the worst was aquaman tbh. he came out like Zoolander's merman just posing for the camera for what felt like eternity.

That Aquaman scene was terrible.

Same.

But I guess their relationship is not supposed to be anything more than two teammates who work together.

Swear to god I think seeing Dyson as Cyborg's dad/creator may have been the only time people in my audience laughed. Even then it was only 3-4 others besides me who saw the meta-ness behind it.

All Marvel movies are completly safe in how they look and how they are presented, throw in them some comic stuff that completly ruin some scenes and you have a very safe but very successfull formula, look at teh new starwars for fucks sakes.

Star Wars isn't really Marvel... and Force Awakens was a good movie that made a metric ton of money. So... BvS went "riskier" and decided to make a movie audiences didn't like that's not nearly as successful? Why should I give them props for "trying" when I hated what they tried to do?

But the whole "all Marvel movies are completely safe"... is amazing to say in hindsight of their success. Especially when Marvel made blockbusters out of a talking raccoon riding an alien tree, a Norse god, and a guy with the ability to shrink and talk to ants. I lost track of how many "will this be Marvel's first flop?" predictions there were, both here and in professional news sites.

They haven't gone away either. "Will Black Panther work?" "Is Doctor Strange too strange?" "Can Captain Marvel carry a film?" "Who cares about the Inhumans?"

Marvel is many things, but I'm not sure "safe" is the right word for it. They're pretty damn confident that they can pull off crazy, bizarre, obscure, and weird characters - even ones that nobody has heard about before in the mainstream - and make serious bank off of them because they can get the right talent, script, and tone for each film.

And each film is extremely different in that area too. We have fantasy movies, space adventures, heist movies, political espionage, monster films, world war, and so on.

So much marvel salt in this thread. Love it. And lol at calling bat v supes a risky movie. Its just as by the numbers as any marvel film. The only risk it took was destroying three beloved comic icons.

So much marvel salt in this thread. Love it.

Batman and Superman are my two favorite heroes of all time. Always preferred DC to Marvel.

You bet I'm salty over what I saw in BvS. Won't even deny it.

I WISH my DC heroes had folks making films as good as Marvel's guys are.

They are not close friends. You're the one who want that. But they are friends. It's fair enough for Tony to be upset that his friendship is superceded by Bucky. But from Caps POV, his friendship with Bucky is stronger. That's what I meant by degrees of friendship and why the conflict from this POV is understandable. It's perfectly fair for Tony to feel slighted because they are friends.

You have to let go and accept it like me.

And embrace the CW universe.

I love DC too man. I used to roleplay as batman with my sibling, re-enacting scenes from batman returns when we were kids. Same with superman by donner. So it pissed me off seeing the travesty of bat v supes on screen. Bat v supes made me retroactively appreciate man of steel more cause kal-el was somewhat of a real character in that film.

I am sick of all these repetive Marvel Discussion.
The Marvel Formula
The TV look
They are all safe
I wish there were more franchises worth talking about right now apart from comic films. Despite the over saturation, all the star wars threads during the winter were a nice change of pace

Whelp Momoa is a former Stargate cast member so I have his back until the end of time. Hope it works out.

I like both companies, I support both companies by buying omnibi/OHC/etc, and I enjoyed BvS for the most part. I'm a bit upset that WB didn't see the problems with BvS months ago and now the DCEU is in danger of not being as successful as the MCU.

I want 2 comic CUs thriving.

People can say I'm being hyperbolic, but I will happily rewatch Batman & Robin over BvS. It's stupid, it's awful, it's rotten, it's campy, it's goofy, it's embarrassing... but it's at the very least fun and entertaining as a movie so bad it's enjoyable.

I've had parties where my friends and I just watch Batman & Robin and take a drink for every bad ice pun. It's ridiculously fun.

I don't think I can do that with BvS. It's just so... dull. So lifeless. Maybe the Lex scenes?

So, yes, BvS is, in complete fairness and honesty, worse than Batman & Robin in that regard.

And Clooney never kills anyone...

They were even more shittier then when the mainstream crowd invade the superhero movie threads.

Worst time. Only Bobby and JC were the bright lights in the big pile of stupid shit that were posted there. And from the three usuall Marvel Circle Topics, it was just about how awful the Prequels.

I agree with you on that. I'm actually hopeful and praying that JL will be good bc i think bat v supe, while a huge misstep, has already done the hardest part. "It is what it is." We can move on.

And I'll echo what others have said, Warner doesnt need to mimic marvel to make good movies. It just need to make good movies period. Like mad max.

I agree Batman and Robin is without question a more enjoyable movie.

Better edited too I think everyone could agree.

For Batman films I go:
1. Batman Begins
2. The Dark Knight
3. Batman '89
4. Batman Returns
5. The Dark Knight Risss
6. Batman '66
7. Batman Forever
8. Batman & Robin
9. Batman v Superman

Biggest shock of all time:

After weeks of miraculous increases despite a continual loss of venues, Spectre fell 88% this past weekend.

I'm surprised that Sony hasn't pulled it from the 5 venues it is left in yet.

There hasn't been a Spectre update in the past couple months that I haven't at least grinned at, if not laughed audibly.

Drops were better back then overall. Bad word of mouth did not spread as fast nor were opening weekends as much of an event.

I remember when I went opening day to B&R that evening a dude the row in front of me declared proudly he has been there all day and this was his 4th time watching it in a row.

I also read the Batman & Robin novelization because why not?

Did you get Arnold's autograph? I would have.

Nah. Sadly wasn't Arnold. I do remember not fully grasping how bad that movie was at first. A lot like Phantom Menace it took a while for the acceptance of what was witnessesed to really sink in.

I think only a select few realized how bad TPM was in the first viewing. The shock of it and/or nostalgia of seeing a new SW film for the first time in decades probably drowned it out.

It's a good thing Lex Luthor did the Justice League the honor of naming them and giving them official logos. Class act that one.

Pretty much the only thing about the film that makes me chuckle is imagining Lex and a crack team of marketing people coming up with logos for them all, making sure they appeal to Millennials and all that.

I think it's time to accept it and look back at Superman Returns with the good eyes it deserved.

Its centerpiece action sequence is him saving people, not a sad side montage. Didn't anyone else throw a fist pump in the air when he stepped out the plane to a thunderous applause from the stadium? Remember when the kryptonite landmass thing was splitting the ground open and he flies back and uses his whole power set to save the city from disaster?

That's the kind of guy you would actually believe the people of Metropolis build a statue to.

Sure, they kinda take it a bit too far with the cheesy heroics around the world, and Lex is underutilized and he has a ham it up contest with whoever his girl sidekick's name is, and his son murders someone... but man, that was great.
