Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - Official Teaser Trailer

I have always wanted a movie in this universe that doesn't focus on the supernatural aspects of it, so I can't describe how excited I'm for this.

Also, judging by the trailer alone, Felicity character already looks more relatable than the entirety of the cast on TFA.

Mary Sue is without question a sexist bullshit label. People should really stop throwing it out there if they don't want to come across like some sort of insane #MensRights sexists. Because that is how you come across when you spew nonsense like that.

Not trying to be a dick, but what was so impressive about it?

The tracking shot with the ATAT's and the infantry running across the battlefield looks like a fan film compared to The Revenant's opening scene.

The AT AT shot looks very good. It's a camera running and following action, it tries to give you a realistic feel so I can see why some would say it looks fan made, but that's just it.

Oh he was definitely that in most MIs. He actually got better about it in the last one though, thankfully.

I haven't seen Jack Reacher but I heard he was a molten level asshole in it

Yeah I don't have a list of scenes in front of me or anything, but I seem to recall Ethan Hunt screwing up a bunch in the last two Mission Impossible movies, and the tension (and humor) coming from how he has to cobble together a way to get out of his self imposed jam.

Doesn't he misjudge an "impressive" jump and slam his head into the side of that Burj Dubai window in Ghost Protocol? Not very Mary Sue-ish.

Man this looks awesome. It's going to be cool to have a Star Wars movie set at "ground level" not "legendary hero level".

Honestly why I'm so excited about this. I adore Star Wars as this epic fantasy, but I'm also immensely interested in seeing how things worked for the average person involved with the rebellion. Jedi are awesome and all; But I know that story. I don't know the story of a soldier dealing with something far beyond their scope.

That is literally part of the definition of the modern colloquial usage of Mary Sue. The character is able to solve their own problems with very little outside assistance. It's part of the "perfection" image. They're able to take care of themselves and their foibles are used almost purely as a device to show you how awesome that character is. There's no real struggle that they can't overcome by themselves.

Rey's story was about how she needed other people to help her achieve her ultimate "destiny," even if she was incredibly capable of taking care of herself. Her motivation wound up coming from protecting her friend. That's neither here nor there, though.

So clarify one more thing with me, end of 2017 we get Episode 8, end of 2018 we get Rogue One: 2? Are these one off films?

To be fair, I'm thinking that's more Cruise making a concentrated effort to avoid that 'perfect action hero' thing, since the more of a hand he has in a movie, the more flawed the character usually is

And yes, Ghost Protocol and Rogue Nation are fucking hilarious because he totally fucks up all the time

So is Ray.

Eh, it's more like they screwed up the power balance between the main hero and the vader stand in for movie 1. Reflects poorly on Kylo and they're going to have to work hard to make him feel menacing in the sequels now that he's essentially already been defeated by them once. That "training" that Darth Snookums promised better be some next level sith cross fit or something.

As a character she's not bad. She's no Kreia, but then, nobody in the OT was either.

James Bond literally does everything right (or his mistakes are used as plot devices) and has the solution to nearly every problem he faces, and tons of men use him as a role model and consider him a powerfully written and good character.

He wasn't in Skyfall. I actually loved that. Him ageing, loosing his edge etc. Made him feel like a real human. Was dissapointed that they've brought him to perfect in Spectre.

Yeah, you can definitely tell that his own personality and style have been leaking onto the script, and it's a great thing.

So, according to the rumors;

James-Earl Jones will reprise his role as Darth Vader in this movie.
They are trying to bring back Hayden Christensen to be in the suit.
They brought back the actress who played Mon-Mothma in Episode III.

I feel sorry for every single Rebel though. Seeing as how important these plans are to the Empire I'm pretty goddamn sure Vader will be sent to dispatch all of 'em.

I think the spin-offs are one off. There won't be a Rogue One: 2. We know the next spin-offs are about Han Solo and there's also that Boba one, iirc

I thought Ridley was ok at best, and maybe it's the delivery in the trailer, but Jones isn't scoring high marks yet.

And no, obviously it's not simply because she's a strong woman, That's silly.

It's because I feel like Kathleen Kennedy really wants me to know they exist. I'm aware they exist, compelling characters like Ridley from Alien make that point by being interesting, not by clenching their jaws a lot and doing everything perfectly.

Seriously, get the hell out of here with this shit. It is so annoying and has been debunked 1000000000 times. It is just veiled sexism, no matter what you call it. You found a way to complain about the 2 female leads and the female head of lucas film. Pretty obvious what is happening.

He still won in Skyfall tho

I lol'd @ Ridley

That person found her so compelling they couldn't even remember her name

I'm going to take a guess that "I rebel" line is cut from a sentence that was in a different part of a conversation. Trailers do that all the time.

I wonder if the "I Rebel" line is some sort of homage to "I Jedi". Corran Horn was a member of Rouge Sqaudron.

We've literally been through hundreds of pages of that bullshit in TFA spoiler thread, really don't want to see it now.

Everyone should read Veelk's post.

It goes mainline episode (VII), standalone (Rogue One), mainline episode (VIII), standalone (young Han Solo?), mainline episode (IX), standalone. Then who knows. Standalone aren't necessarily direct sequels to each other, more independent anthology stories.

I don't mind her being over competent, especially with Kylo being this weak. But she just seemed to be completely devoid of personality. She did cool shit, but she felt empty. Kylo, Finn and Poe all had a lot more personality. I hope they expand her, bcause the actress herself is very sympathetic.

2015: Episode VII
2016: Rogue One
2017: Episode VIII
2018: Han Solo
2019: Episode IX
2020: Boba Fett?
Beyond that: Obi-Wan?

In Ghost Protocol almost everything fails which is kind of great. From the mask machine breaking to the damn door on a train not opening.

I'd eat my metaphorical hat if it's Hayden Christensen walking around as Vader.

Yes, no, yes.

No bald cap? Lies!
Not Rogue One 2, another Standalone movie (most likely han solo).

I wish they would fast track an Obi-Wan film with McGregor instead. I'm not opposed to a Han Solo origin film, but I'm not chomping at the bit for it. Hell I'd rather have a Boba Fett film before Han too even though I was never a huge fan of his.

Doubtful. Why bother making that reference but leaving out completely any reference to the EU story that actually dealt with stealing the Death Star plans?

So the prequels are canon?

Why would they bother with Hayden in the suit. He's not the right height and they'd have to force perspective everything to make it look right. It'll be some 6'7 body builder.
