I didn't have a full understanding of the history of the term. Ive only seen it in popular culture, and what I've seen there is just silly. That's very true - those terms are used in academic discourse in appropriate ways, but they've been appropriated (irony) to be used as blunt cudgels to stifle speech in the general public as it stands (and academia is just happy to be relevant, so they don't care)
